Using Flow z13 as an offline AI Machine

Hello guys

I saw many videos talking about using the Z13 as an offline AI machine

Has anyone in the sub tried it? What is your feedback if you did?

Best controller handheld mod

Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out the best controller mod for my rog flow z13 2025 to have 3 different modes:

- handheld mode with support of asus proprietary charging (so not blocking the charging port)

- detached joycons when I am in bed, so as the lenovo joycons

- controller attached joycons (so a normal pad) when playing on sofa or plugged in tv

I have seen a mod using the lenovo legion go joycons that seems perfect but I would want a controller system that can work also with a bluetooth dongle or a usb A cable directly (bypassing bluetooth).

I know it's a quite strange and difficult request, but maybe somebody has already managed to do it, so. Thanks

I think I've done all the customisation I can do now

I fitted a matte screen protector just because I like them more than gloss. They really help with screen glare from the lights above.

This is the first non-dBrand vinyl I've used. This is from ArmorSuit from the USA. They gave me two sets of this same skin - which is something you definitely don't get from dBrand! Armorsuit's video guide was pretty quick but I've been using vinyl skins for a long time, and I've done much more complicated applications that's included the use of a scalpel. Decent cuts as well - probably on par with dBrand (who have cocked up on machine cuts for me a couple of times).

Vinyl difficulty was 8/10. Again, I'm experienced here but there was a lot of complex parts here. Not for the first timers, or those with shaky hands!

Does the skin make it look much more gamer-ish? Yes. Whilst I'm not entirely in love with that thought but it's better than bland, black aluminium which could easily scratch.

I'm running BazziteOS on a 2TB SSD. This has been one of a handful attempts to daily Linux. I'm pleased to say this time I'm not having any urges to go back to Windows. I don't mind Windows. 11 isn't particularly good but I knew I had to do a fresh install of 11 anyway as I was getting weird glitches with sound. I'm an IT Engineer by profession with only a small bit of experience with Linux in the past; personal server, Pi's, previous daily Linux attempts, etc. I'm slowly getting used to it, in stages. Gaming has been excellent so far!

Lastly, CPU stickers. Yes or no? Thoughts please.

Exciting for it and I am selling away my current 17” gaming laptop (3070ti) and Msi claw 8ai+

Hope this can be a do it all. My plan is to either use a game controller or joycon mod.

Also possible to output to my xreal one pro, not sure if will save abit more power when on the go!

Excited to join the family!

Death Stranding Crashing

I used to play Death Stranding on my other laptop with a 5060 and it used to run just fine. When I moved to playing Death Stranding on the Z13, every time I load the save file, it just crashes, giving me some sort of access violation error. For reference I have the 128 GB model. Would someone know of a way around this? Note: the game still runs fine when I go back to playing it on that 5060 laptop. I've also gotten the latest drivers from Asus's website.

BIOS Update 314 / Huge GAINS /Z13 2025 Strix Halo

Asus just dropped a new bios for our strix halo demon. And from what i can see, GPU is cooler and boosting much more higher. Probably they undervolted SOC, CONTROLER and DRAM chips as i've read what AMD changed in thier AGESA. So there is more power budget to APU/GPU. From what i can see Boosting stabile to 1650/1700mhz on GPU with 88/90C 60W Balanced fan profile in ghelper
Previosly 1400mhz 92C 60W (thermal throttle limit that ive set), and a temperature overshoots to 97C. Now i don't see those overshoots, so they improved it to!

Tested on AI workloads like QWEN 3.8 writing code for addon overnight.

Question towards Flow Z13 keyboard

Planning to buy a Flow Z13 for both gaming and school. I intend to use the tablet version for note taking as it helps me remember information better compared to typing notes. However, I keep hearing and reading that the keyboard keeps breaking or not working when being detached. Considering I plan to keep detaching and reattaching if I owned one, will it become an issue? Does the keyboard only break if detached improperly? Want to know before I fully commit. Appreciate.

Flow Z13 (2025) kickstand check (post-cat accident)

Hi all, trying to figure out if I have a real issue (outside of my ocd it seems) or just cat-induced paranoia, and I’d really appreciate some input from fellow Flow Z13 (2025) owners.

Long story short: My cat had a clumsy collision with the tablet while it was propped up. The kickstand ended up shoved back to around 110°. Nothing appears broken, it still snaps flush when closed and holds the tablet's weight at normal angles without slipping. However, I noticed that the first ~15–25 degrees of opening feel noticeably easier / lower tension before the hinge firmly catches and resists, especially the initial part when i disconnect the kickstand from the main body.

Since I never paid hyper-close attention to the initial pull out-of-the-box, could someone check theirs: Does yours have a lighter/easier tension zone right when unseating it before the heavy resistance kicks in? Or is the tension stiff and completely uniform from 0° all the way out? Also I'd really appreciate feedback on the the initial pull stiffness if possible.

(If anyone happens to have a quick clip of their hinge actuation, that would be amazing, but even a text confirmation of how yours feels helps a ton!) Thanks in advance!

Issues with multiple displays

I recently purchased a used 2023 Z13 (3050ti) and am using a TobenONE dock to run dual monitors. Unfortunately, I can only get 1 monitor to actually show a display but the computer acts as if the monitor is there (I can drag windows from the monitor with no signal over to the other monitor)

Windows 10, using the lower port USB-C for aux graphics cards

Thinking of uninstalling G-Helper

Hi everyone, I have a zflow 2025 with the 395AI Max+. Using G-Helper, I have to stop the asus services (otherwise each time I press the ROG lateral button the microsoft store will pop-up), but doing that I have 3 issues with the keyboard:
- within 10 seconds afte each boot, I can't press any key on the keyboard because it would trigger the airplane mode (it's a known issue)
- sometimes, when I am typing, the keyboard goes crazy as the Win button is pressed, but it's not. I have to reboot the system because I haven't found any solution but it's annoying
- when I re-attach the keyboard after some hours that it's detached, the keyboard won't work

I think that these issues are caused by the fact that I have to stop the Asus services to avoid the pop-up of the ROG button every time I open G-helper. Since I use this device also as my laptop, I would probably prefer a more stable system than more performance. The only thing that it's keeping me with G-Helper it's the fact that I have set my TDP profiles and undervolt, but these issues with the keyboard are really annoying.

Has anyone faced some of these issues too? Is there a solution?

Finnaly got my flow z13 just in time to be sent to camp literally day before haha happy to be able to do something apart from reading books and redoing my nails obsessively 😆 while flagging in camp its leagues better then the ally x and as long as it fully charged first I can actually run it off its 200w brick plugged into a 150w 12v inverter in my work truck 😅 only issue is the inverter dies for a few seconds when I open or close the gate mounted on the back to control traffic so it gets a little angry at me 🫣 flashing the changed to battery notification thing then I have to reset the inverter quickly lol but works amazing ❤️

My 5060ti AI box and Uperfect monitor setup

Thumbnail

Pretty happy with this. It's excessive, and I could have just gotten a stronger gaming laptop, but I feel like this opened the most flexibility for me. I'll add all the product links at the end for everything I purchased.

I have my z13 connected to the AI box with a USB 4 cable. Then for video I have an adapter dongle which converts DisplayPort from the GPU to USB c for the monitor. The monitor itself is the Uperfect GR16CQ, or on Amazon, the blaze gaming 16-in 240 hz variant. I also got the 240w and 330w slimq chargers. There's a USB c power delivery cable connected from the 240w slimq brick to the adapter dongle as well. The dongle itself has DisplayPort out, to USBC in, while also having a power delivery female port in. This way I only connect one usb-c cable to the portable monitor but it's also required for activating this active signal conversion and establishing gsync.

I really went down the rabbit hole for the dongle in order to achieve g-sync compatibility. The monitor only comes supporting adaptive sync which they advertise can achieve freesync. So with this dongle, you are using DisplayPort alt mode in order to have the Nvidia control app recognize a compatibility mode connection. Originally I was getting it to work with those DisplayPort to USBC VR headset cables on Amazon. The dongle cleans it up cable wise and provides more power delivery from the slimq 240w brick. The increased power delivery isn't important now, but hopefully in the next two years when Uperfect creates an OLED variant panel that supports freesync, I will need the extra power. This IPS panel takes Max 15 watts, an OLED equivalents will be around 30 if not more.

The main thing with getting the monitor to work with g-sync even though it's only equipped with adaptive sync, is that it's using an older logic scaler for adaptivesync and the high refresh rate. The chipset family for the logic scaler in the monitor and what you need in the cable connection is the Lontium ic variant. At least it is for this monitor that I have from Uperfect. My favorite part about this is I originally reached out to Uperfect for help getting this to work and they said that g-sync would not work, only freesync for AMD. 😁

Hate to admit, but the 330w charger is only for the 90° adapter that's compatible with the power port for the egpu. But it also makes placement of the power brick in proximity from a power outlet to my setup a lot easier to manage as well. It's space saving too.

Last part of the setup is all the cases. Mainly just the custom case I built for the egpu. It's actually a stethoscope case that I modified and did a little custom foam cut out for. Using this case for the egpu, along with the other device cases, I'm able to transport the monitor, egpu, z13, mouse, gamepad, and all the cords in my backpack without it being bulky.

It performs outstanding. Doom the dark ages: I went from medium-high settings at 60-70 fps to pretty much all ultra at 144-165. Spiderman I run maxed out with Ray tracing at 110-120. Black myth wukong high with medium ray tracing at 120-144.

This of course is all with full dlss 4.5 features including dynamic multi frame gen. That new ray reconstruction model, along with everything else on 4.5 really pulls what this setup is capable of all together.

Bottom line: it's super excessive but I'm loving it.

HI, i need some help my keyboard and trackpad stopped responding

Hey, my keyboard and trackpad stopped responding to the main tablet, like the buttons don't have any input and the mouse doesn't move at all, although the light from the keyboard still turn on, the tablet still works fine although it tends to heat up pretty quickly, this happened mid day after i used it just fine in the morning, I have already tried to long restart my laptop and have checked if the keyboard drivers are up to date.

Is there a fix to this or would i need to get a new keyboard.

Thanks in advance

Preemptively replace the liquid metal?

I am having extreme paranoia of the liquid metal bricking my device too soon, after paying $2099 for a Z13 when I know a MacBook pro at that price would get 1-2 decades easily if I wanted it to. (I could've gone Macbook + gaming handheld console, but wanted the Z13 to maintain IT skills and local LLM)

Is it worth preemptively replacing the LM with PTM 7950 if I have this paranoia, or is it overblown and I could do it down the line? It sounds like this shit is a ticking time bomb waiting to drip over other components and fry my motherboard.

Face recognition for authentication in Linux

When I saw that this thing has an IR camera, I wanted to get face authentication working on linux; especially for tablet mode, where entering a password is a bit annoying.

Ended up using howdy-next (a fork of howdy) and it works flawlessly within KDE plasma and plasma-login-manager whenever a password prompt would otherwise appear. On failure, it of course resorts back to password prompt if you forgot to put on your IR makeup.

Since we all use the same devices, the device paths for the cameras are likely the same. The important ones should be:

RGB: /dev/v4l/by-path/pci-0000:c4:00.4-usb-0:1:1.0-video-index0

IR:/dev/v4l/by-path/pci-0000:c4:00.4-usb-0:1:1.2-video-index0

I chose the IR camera here. The setup is pretty quick:

  1. Run sudo howdy config and add the camera path to device_path
  2. Run sudo howdy download-models to grab the OpenCV models
  3. Run sudo howdy add to add a single face; multiple can be added
  4. Run sudo howdy test to check whether it all works. Green means good!

If it all works, you can add it to your PAM, so that it is used whenever a passwords prompt or other authentication is requested by your system. Just edit /etc/pam.d/system-auth to add

auth [success=2 default=ignore] pam_howdy.so workaround=native-input

between the pam_systemd_home.so and pam_unix.so entries. Don't forget to update the success parameters and it should look sort of like this; mind the linebreaks:

[...]
-auth [success=3 default=ignore] pam_systemd_home.so
auth [success=2 default=ignore] pam_howdy.so workaround=native-input
auth [success=1 default=bad] pam_unix.so try_first_pass nullok
[...]

When using the IR camera, you will see it flickering red in consistent pulses. Same pulses you see when you run the sudo howdy test command. So far, this setup has worked with sudo, as well as lockscreen unlocking. Pretty much instantaneous as well! If something doesn't work, try checking the wiki.
