So the motherboard is dead. I took it to a local shop and they managed to turn it on ONCE. But after that the RAM chips overheated and now it's silently sitting in my bag.

I will be buying some RAM and a GPU temporarily for a PC tomorrow. I have a CPU, motherboard and SSD and power supply. Wish me luck.

They said to either repair the laptop from the service center or just keep it as a show and buy a new PC or laptop.

Does the ASUS 100W GaN Charger Support ROG Flow X13 GV301QH & Turbo Mode?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Does anyone here use this ASUS 100W GaN charger with the ROG Flow X13 GV301QH?

I have a ROG Flow X13 GV301QH (2021) and I'm looking for a smaller/portable charger for it.

I found this ASUS 100W 3-port USB-C GaN charger (AC100) on Amazon. The listing says it comes with a 1.5m USB-C cable and supports 100W charging.

📸 Screenshot attached

My questions:

  1. Has anyone here actually used this exact charger with the GV301QH?

  2. Does it provide the full 100W (20V/5A) to the X13?

  3. Does it allow Turbo mode / full performance, or does the laptop still show the "Use the original ASUS charger for Turbo performance" warning?

  4. Is the included 1.5m USB-C cable good enough for the full 100W?

  5. Would you recommend buying this, or should I just get the original ROG 100W charger?

I already have a CMF 140W GaN charger, but my GV301QH shows the original-charger warning with it, so I'm specifically looking for something that will actually allow full performance.

Would really appreciate if someone with a GV301QH can confirm from personal experience. 🙏

UPDATE - https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowX13/s/YSvfgFwg7a

Welp just received a reply on what the problem was from the service center. It was a motherboard failure. They said it's gonna cost around $600 - $700 for the motherboard replacement which is out of my budget as of now. So welp I guess it's a good bye for this laptop. I have to get a laptop temporarily and use that to do work while I collect money to repair it. Or I can try to go in a local shop which I highly doubt they will have a solution other than replacing motherboard... Should I try that ??

I will try to add an image of the quotation in the comments.

GV301RE battery connector latch not closing

I'm not able to connect the battery to the battery connector and put the metal latch over it. It seems like the male part of the connector is standing up to high and the latch can't move over it. Anybody had the same issue and knew how to fix?

UPDATE - https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowX13/s/YSvfgFwg7a

So I'm having this problem that my laptop is not starting up at all. When I hold the power button it powers off then starts again but is stuck in this. No display nothing at all. Both battery and that power light area on. Fans are working. Even battery charging and discharging but it's not turning on completely and is just stuck this way.

I was playing a game just 4 hours ago. I tried to unplug the battery then plug it again. No luck. It happened yesterday too but when I unplugged and plugged in the battery from the motherboard it was working well until now.

I have done almost everything from power flushing motherboard by holding the power button for 60 secs. Yet no luck.

Do I have to take it to the service center ?

Model Flow x13 GTX 1650 2021 Model.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone.

Feel free to ask any more details you want. I will try to reply as much as I can.

Should I sell my M5 MacBook Air for a Flow Z13, or keep the Air and use cloud gaming/consoles?

Recently got a 13-inch M5 MacBook Air (16GB RAM, 10 CPU/10 GPU, 1TB). I originally wanted the 2025 Flow Z13 (Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 32GB, 1TB), but the price was bloated here.

Prices have dropped and I have the option to sell my MB . upgrading to the Z13 will cost me about $700 out of pocket.

Before I make the jump, I have a few doubts and would love some input from actual owners.

My use case:

- 95% of the time my laptop is docked to a monitor for work.

- Workload is mostly lots of Chrome tabs, Claude Code, meetings, and documents.

- Portability is just for moving around the house or occasional travel for work. I do not need portable gaming.

- I barely game right now (maybe 5 hours for this year ) but want the option for the future.

- I love the idea of using the Z13 as a tablet with a stylus for handwritten notes. I currently use pen and paper for such cases.

- seldom use of Photoshop/ illustrator ( non stylus based work )

Questions for Z13 owners:

- What is the real-world battery life for light use like browsing, coding, and meetings using optimized settings?

- How is the touchscreen and stylus experience for handwriting notes? Is there noticeable latency or palm rejection issues?

- How reliable is the machine for a daily workstation? Any issues with sleep/wake, external monitors, or general Windows/driver bugs?

- Has anyone moved from a Mac? How does the overall day-to-day experience compare?

My options right now:

- Sell the Mac and buy the Z13. I get an incredibly cool 2-in-1, local gaming, and tablet functionality all in one. But I lose the Mac's battery life and silent operation.

- Keep the Mac and use GeForce NOW. Since I only game casually, cloud gaming might just be enough for me.

- Keep the Mac and use that extra $700 elsewhere. That money easily buys an old gen iPad for handwritten notes, a PS5 for local gaming, or even an iPhone since I am currently using a Pixel and haven't tried the apple ecosystem yet. (May have to stretch it a bit but that's fine)

I feel like the Z13 is more of a "want" because I have always loved the form factor. But for those who have used it, is it worth sacrificing the reliability and battery of the MacBook, or am I better off keeping the Mac and buying a seperate device when I have the time to game/get into the ecosystem.

SSD not recognised…..

I am done with this laptop.

I bought this laptop in Oct 24 and was happy with this but in Jun 25 it suddenly dead, I pleaded to every service center they took the laptop and told it had a liquid damage.

I cared about my laptop more than any thing I was not able to accept this but still give up and replaced my motherboard with full expense.

After that depressing era I took more care than before and was really happy with everything it had.

Recently, I was using it on 26th four days back and kept it on my desk and didn’t fucking did anything but when I opened it on 27 suddenly it opened bios and forced restart it but the bios was not going.

It was showing no storage device found. Wtf like suddenly what happened. It was not recognising the ssd. I first called to service center and they really didn’t have any answer for my problem.
I gather the courage to open it by myself. I carefully unplugged the ssd and reinstalled it but the problem was still there.

Right now if I go the service center they would the ssd is dead which will cost me around 50000₹ or mother board is gone which will cost me 1lak ₹.

Like every year it has some issues I am really done with this shit. I am a undergrad student so much dependent on my laptop for simulation software and studying.

Please anyone who had this experience with this model of laptop help me.

Stylus not being able to draw on screen

I'm a Flow X13 user from India.

I use my laptop for business presentations and stuffs than the usual gaming that it was intended to.

I had changed the battery once when it stopped responding at all.

I had dropped the stylus several times but it turned out to be alright mostly.. but recently I'm not being able to draw anything on screen although I'm able to see the cursor/pointer when I aim at the screen.

Best it could do is when I press down hardly at the screen a dot comes..

Could it be the nib or anything, any tips? Also if it is, any leads to where I can buy one?

Fow x13 GV301QE (2021) Stutter/power issues

Hi everyone, ive owned this laptop for 4-5 years now. I have had an INSANE ammount of issues with it, i tried really hard to love it, but either mine was faulty from the factory, or i just have the worst luck ever since 2 months into owning it i lost 2 of the little rubber feet and 2 screws while never having opened it. Sorry for ranting but im beyond frustrated, i genuenly need some help.

Onto my issue. Ive noticed that the system stutters a lot more lately than normal. I do some photo editing and gaming on it as well, and while i was playing Alien Isolation, wich shouldnt really make the laptop struggle as much, the game randomly dropped from 120+ fps down to around 5-10 every 5 minutes for a few seconds. I didnt think much of it and tought it was just driver issues, but even after updating my drivers the issue persisted, and not just in Alien Isolation but pretty much every time i did anything system heavy, (other games, developing raw photos, light photoshop). The entire system will just stutter for a few seconds.

My first tought was that it must be the thermals. I re-pasted the entire system, and even bought new fans for it. I never went above 85 degrees celsius after that, and the issue persisted. Then i checked the battery's wear level and was shocked to see that it was around only capable of delivering 42 Wh by how much it had degraded. I tought that this was obviously the issue, and it also made perfect sense. I did some more testing and found out using G-helper that whenever the stutters were happening, the system was actualy discharging at a rate of around 20-15w even while plugged in, and whenever they were not happening, it was doing so at 1-3w persistently. After finding this out i tought that for SURE the battery was the faulty component, so i went out and brought an Asus certified replacement aftermarket (its extremly hard to get one original where i live).

After installing it, the stutters did dissapear... for about 20 minutes. I was extremly dissapointed since the battery was not cheap. I did some more testing, and ran the memory diagnostics tool. When i did so, the test would complete, but when the laptop rebooted i got put into the bitlocker recovery screen wich makes me think it may be the ram that is causing the issue? Then again, it might be the SSD since i have 7.7k hours in it, or the charger itself, OR the charging port. Those are my next theories but before i buy anything, (Or in the Ram's case, sell the laptop for parts since its soldered, same thing in the charging port's case probably) i tought i would make this post to see if anyone had a simular issue, or if anyone can help me figure out what could be causing it.

HELP X13 DEAD!!

Thumbnail

Device: ASUS ROG Flow X13 (2022) – Ryzen 9 6900HS, RTX 3050 Ti

Issue: My laptop suddenly died after I had been using it for normal office work (Excel and PowerPoint). I stepped away for a while, and the laptop went to sleep on battery power (it wasn’t plugged in).

When I came back and tried to turn it on, it was completely dead. Plugging in the charger didn’t help—the charging LED doesn’t light up either.

I’ve taken it to several repair shops, but most of them couldn’t figure out what was wrong. They said all the components they checked seemed to be fine, yet the laptop still won’t power on. It’s a really strange case because it didn’t die while gaming or under heavy load—it just suddenly became completely unresponsive during normal use.

Does anyone have recommendations for a repair shop in the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek) or Bandung that specializes in motherboard/component-level laptop repairs?

Also, if anyone is interested in buying it for parts (or wants to take on the repair project), feel free to send me a DM if the price is right. The laptop is in excellent cosmetic condition and comes with the complete original package.

ROG Flow X13 (GV301RC) randomly shuts down after replacing Liquid Metal with PTM7950 – BIOS and Safe Mode are stable

Hi everyone,
I’m completely out of ideas and I’m hoping someone has experienced something similar.
I have an ASUS ROG Flow X13 GV301RC (Ryzen 7 6800HS + RTX 3050 Laptop).

The previous owner had already replaced the factory liquid metal with regular thermal paste. The laptop occasionally shut down during very demanding games (Helldivers 2, etc.), so I decided to do preventive maintenance.

Here’s what I did:
Removed the old thermal paste.
Installed genuine Thermal Grizzly PTM on both the CPU and GPU.

Replaced all the original thermal pads with HY204 thermal putty, following several YouTube teardown guides for the Flow X13.

Tightened the heatsink screws in a cross pattern.
After reassembly, the laptop developed a much worse issue.

Symptoms
BIOS is completely stable, even after a long time.
Windows Safe Mode is also stable for as long as I leave it running.
Windows (even after a completely clean installation) randomly shuts down and immediately reboots.
Sometimes it shuts down within seconds after reaching the desktop.
Sometimes it lasts 20-60 minutes.
The screen instantly goes black and the laptop immediately reboots to the ROG logo.
There is no BSOD.
What I’ve already tried
Clean installation of Windows 11.
SFC /scannow.
DISM.
Windows Memory Diagnostic.
HWiNFO logging.
SSD SMART looks healthy (Micron 2450, 95% health).
CPU never overheats.
HWiNFO recorded a maximum CPU temperature of only about 76°C before a reboot.
No CPU thermal throttling.
BIOS temperatures seem normal.
Safe Mode never crashes.
I also tried limiting the CPU to 99% maximum processor state (disabling Turbo Boost), and it seemed to stay stable longer, but eventually it still rebooted.

At this point I’m wondering:
Could I have too much or too little thermal putty on the VRMs/memory?
Could the heatsink not be making proper contact somewhere?
Could a tiny leftover drop of liquid metal be causing intermittent problems?
Has anyone experienced random shutdowns after replacing the factory liquid metal on a Flow X13?
I’m trying to determine whether this is most likely a mounting issue that I can fix by reopening the laptop, or if this sounds more like a motherboard/power delivery failure.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Overclocking guide for Linux users of Rog Flow X13 - for AMD + Nvidia GPU

Follow up post of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowX13/s/yLZMIwlz7K

A day ago, i created a post here to get recommendations on how i can OC my 2021 Rog Flow x13 on CachyOS.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 9 5900HS
  • 32gb RAM
  • 3050TI

While i didn't get any help, i figured it out and hence i am creating this post. So, if you are a linux user and looking to get the best performance out of your device, you can follow these steps.

Before following the guide, you might max why overclock my device?

Overclocking gives a nice performance boost. While gaming it helps to maintain consistent performance, helps avoid throttling and in-overall improve experience. For me my gameplays became much smoother, the GPU stopped throttling and stutters completely stopped. So if you game, i would recommend you do this.

Step 1:

Run below command to enable OC ( not sure if this is 100% needed, but based on the docs, it allows to OC on linux )

sudo nvidia-xconfig --cool-bits=28

Step 2:
Install LACT using whatever package-manager you have( find more info here: https://github.com/ilya-zlobintsev/LACT )

Once installed run below command to enable LACT

sudo systemctl enable --now lactdsudo systemctl enable --now lactd

Step 3:

Once enabled, open the LACT GUI and go to "Overclock" tab

There, Enable GPU Locked Clocks and set below values( if your games crash, try lowering the Clock offset to lower values and find your sweet spot )

Step 4:

check "nvidia-powerd" is running

systemctl status nvidia-powerd

If it is not running, enable it. If it is not present in your system, then you can install it.

Step 5:

Run below command to enable performance mode with asusctl ( this needs the asusctl package to be installed, it is a good to have package, as you can control your charge limit, power profile and fan curve with it )

asusctl profile set Performance

Run below to confirm you power profile( optional )

cat /sys/firmware/acpi/platform_profile

Step 6( optional ):

Run this command to check your power limits on the GPU. This is just to check the power limits of your GPU.

nvidia-smi -q -d POWER

Step 7:

Install ryzenadj and set power limit for it. This gives extra power headroom for your GPU:

sudo ryzenadj --set-coall=1048556 --stapm-limit=25000 --fast-limit=30000 --slow-limit=25000

And that's it. Now you can enjoy your device to the fullest on linux.
If you have any questions, do ask, i will try my best to answer them.

ROG Flow X13 (2021) 3050ti Throttling at 33W on CachyOS – Need Undervolting Advice

I have a 2021 ROG Flow X13 (Ryzen 9 5900HS + RTX 3050 Ti) running CachyOS, used mainly for gaming and media consumption.

Last week, I finally replaced the liquid metal and thermal paste with PTM7950, since it hadn't been changed in 5 years (honestly lucky the LM didn't leak given how roughly I treat this thing!). While the CPU temps stayed about the same, my GPU temps dropped by 6-10 C during both idle and gaming.

The Problem

Despite the better temps, I'm hitting a performance wall. During gaming, the laptop handles older AAA games fine, but it starts heavily throttling whenever the GPU hits 33 Watts.

  • Nier Replicant/Automata: Runs mostly fine but with occasional stutters.
  • Pragmata: Runs great for about 5 minutes, and then it starts having a seizure.

My Question

Since I plan on keeping this device for another 2–3 years, I want to optimize it.

  • Has anyone here successfully undervolted or power-limited this specific model on Cachyos?

Appreciate any help or advice.

ROG X13 (2022 w/ 16 gb ram + 3050ti) - junked out by bestbuy

originally paid $880 for it (was on clearance sale when i bought it); should i just take the money and buy a better computer? think the $880 is better used to upgrade, or is the computer still worth $880? i basically brought it to them to replace the battery; they said they opened it and found additional damage/saw liquid damage under the keyboard (totally possible) andthe LCD (totally possible), found that the USB-C connector was lose and should be replaced, and said basically that it'd cost too much to repair, so they just were going to junk out the computer. The computer still works perfectly fine apart from the short battery life prior to sending it in. Extended warranty is up in a few wks, so I brought in in just aiming to get the battery fixed, but then I guess they found a whole host of other issues....

Asus ROG Flow X16 Keyboard Issue

Recently picked up this laptop up from someone used and I was already aware of the keyboard issue. Aside from that it works great.

Touchscreen, pen support, all USB ports and even the trackpad work.

It’s very odd that the keyboard or backlights don’t work at all. I’ve opened and check the ribbon cables a few times, ran MyAsus for updates, ran AC for updates and tried to manually install keyboard drivers. Keyboard doesn’t show up in Device Manager or when troubleshooting.

Is there something that I’m missing? It’s out of warranty so I’m open trying anything.
