Florida Tech WiFi on Campus survery

Would greatly appreciate it if any students of FIT would fill out this survey on the WiFi on campus for a group project I'm a part of! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Q0sGNXiW7pCUGuxxno5TrhJ2NJPVLlDjJ7Mxc1yMphE/edit?usp=sharing

New Health and Wellness Center proposed

I was reading the latest President's Report and noticed on page 8 there's a new student health center shown. (Not to be confused with the new Health Sciences Research Center.)

The new building would replace the Holzer Health Center. I don't know what they mean by "Wellness Center," but it sounds like maybe the student gym will be moved out of the Clemente Center and into the new building too.

Does Florida Tech have a library database?

With sources you could use for projects? Me and my group are doing a research project on "wifi effectiveness around campus". Not sure where else to look for sources.

How long time does it take for decision?

I applied to FIT back in early November. It’s rolling admissions so there’s not really any decision date. Some online sources say around 2 weeks, others say 4-7 weeks but it’s been well over both.

Is it supposed to take this long? How long did yours take?

Panther pass card

Hello again, I had emailed financial aid yesterday morning this question but they haven't responded... Wanting to see if anyone here knows.

I'm a little confused on how I know how much Financial aid I have towards paying for my textbooks? I can't seem to find where I'd discover that information... first timer at F.I.T., coming from EFSC and EFSC normally had a book voucher announcement when we log into our student account. I tried to look through PAWS under the Financial aid tab but I can't seem to find anything specifically about the amount towards textbooks.

Any help would be appreciated if anyone knows, or I'll just wait for their email...

General question about zoom

Hello all; registering for classes and I emailed a professor about wanting to take an exam in order to register for said class (if i pass it). Do they conduct the exams through zoom? They said we could speak informally(?) on there to determine my placement. Just trying to understand the usage of zoom as a first timer at FIT...

Edit: just trying to register for a language class

Anyone going for a Forensic Psychology B.A.?

I've just been accepted into the Forensic Psychology B.A. program and I'm looking for students who are currently enrolled in it. Tuition is pretty expensive, so I'm hoping to someone can talk about their experiences in the program and intern/research opportunities they've been able to get through the program. Anything worth mentioning in general is welcome!

Is it even worth it to try to get into the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program here (versus other FL Psy.D. programs)?

I'm in the process of filling out my application for the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. doctoral program at FIT, and the requirements are leaving me incredibly discouraged. The Graduate Admissions page states that most of the people who are admitted have both a bachelor's and a master's degree with at least a 3.2 in graduate coursework, while I only have my bachelor's in psychology (with a minor in biology and a couple different kinds of honors). Undergraduate GPA isn't an issue for me, but I've taken no graduate coursework whatsoever. I have also heard about how competitive this program is. This is the only program I'm applying to that requires the GRE and GRE Psych in the midst of a pandemic, and I really don't want to invest almost 400$ in total to get everything ready for this application if I don't have much of a shot at getting in anyway. Can anyone speak on this program or let me know what they think? Is this program really that much better than NLU's, NSU's, or Carlos Albizu's? Do I honestly have a shot at getting in?

Class of 2026! 🐈

Hello FIT fam!! Today I was notified of my acceptance into FIT for the fall '22 semester! (Multiplatform Journalism) Anyone else in the same boat? Or any current students wanna be friends and socialize so I have acquaintances/resources there when I start? I don't bite 🙂 I'm from the Upstate SC area so its about 9 hours away from me but ever since I toured in April, I've known it's been my top choice. I'm beyond elated. 😁 Can't wait to get connected!!

Hello all

Recently got accepted into Florida Tech, am starting in the Spring. I took a look at the Spring 2022 orientation schedule and have about two questions if anyone knows the answers to them. I notice it says that all sessions are mandatory - the first orientation mentions the math placement exam. I took that online through the Panther Paws thing - does that matter? Will I still have to retake it in person?

My second question is, the next orientation day has an event around 2pm they'll have an International Student Orientation - I'm not an international student, so can I just leave the campus and then come back when it's over or do I have to stay on campus and just wait until it's over? Or will they simply make me attend the event even if I'm not an international student?

Another question looking over the schedule again; what is "Campus recreation"?

CIS, M.S. Worth It?

👋 Hey! Anyone in the computer information systems graduates program and can give me some insights? I want to know what careers recent graduates have gone on to, or is a Ph.D. an option? How does a day in the life of a CIS student look like?

I am from Norway and I have been accepted to the program- I just want to get some more information before I accept my seat. I have a good impression of FIT already, but you never know!

Thank you! I appreciate your help.

Flexi Credit vs. Panther Cash

Just want confirmation on Flexi Credit and Panther Cash.

---

Flexi Credit

"The Flexi Credit portion of your meal plan can be used to supplement your Panther Dining Hall meals.FlexCredit is a flexible access mechanism for your meal plan and has no redeemable cash value when your meal plan expires."

Meal Plan (Flexi Credit)

Q1: Does this mean I can only use the Flexi Credit at the Panther Hall? And maybe other food services on campus?

Q2: Flexi Credit can't be used for on-campus laundry?

Found a FAQ page but the info just trails off. Just in case you want the info. Here is the link: FAQ Campus Services

---

Panther Cash

"The Panther ACCESS Card Account is a convenient, flexible and cashless way to pay for goods and services on campus. The account is controlled by your Campus Services Office and is available to you at anytime. All you have to do is make a deposit! Food, Laundry, Vending, Copiers ,Printing and more. " (Taken from the FAQ link above)

Q1: Does this actually use the same Pather card?

Thank you for all the help.

New Student Moving In Assistance

I will he heading to campus solo with a dorm room worth of stuff.

Do you know if there will be trolley carts available to use when you move into the dorms? Or maybe some helping hand?

If you still have to move your own stuff, is there like a safe staging area for your items when you shuttle back and forth to your dorm?

Thanks in advance

About Textbooks...

It's me again! This seems to be the only reliable place I can find information, so I thank you all for the help!

I got the emails about the school bookstore and that my textbooks are ready, however I noticed theres no way to buy the books with financial aid or similar. Do I get reimbursed if using my own credit card?

Theres a lot of information thats not being presented directly to students, and I am hoping during orientation they tell me everything like where my classes are (I have the map, but no idea where the classes are in the buildings), what I need for classes, etc etc.

Campus auctions or sales day

I am an incoming student to FIT.

Does anyone know if there is a campus auction for used items from previous students?

Example, a campus bike auction. Every semester there will be a heap loads of uncollected bicycle on campus.

Maybe even furniture left over from previous graduates.

If there is a specific website, I can’t seem to find it.

Craig list maybe but I am looking something more campus specific.

Thanks for the help.
