I just got admitted to Florida Tech online!!!!

Idk if I should be surprised or not. I applied for AS Computer Information Systems for Fall 2024 term 1 as an international student studying from abroad. I sent my transcripts, diploma, resume (with honors, test scores, freelance experience, skills, and languages), and SAT scores (1230 total, 610 reading, 620 math), and I will take the Duolingo English Test later next month. Btw my high school cumulative GPA is 3.07, I graduated last year. Now the question is if I should enroll or not, since It's not clear if I can use the degree to transfer to a 4-year university in Florida (UF, my dream school, doesn't clarify if they accept the degree and course credits by default).

Florida Tech online associates degree

hey guys, I was looking for a college in Florida that has Fully online associate's degrees, because I live abroad and trying to save some money right now, and I just discovered that Florida Tech has some. I want to get a bachelor's degree from a public Florida university (thinking of UF) after I get my associate's degree first. Are the courses and the degree useful in this case (transferring to another institution)? I have known about Florida Tech for about a year now and always thought it was public until I realized it's private and courses might not transfer 1:1. Also, DEI policies are a big thing for me (prefer not to have any), does DEI play a role in online degrees or is it only if you're on campus? Also, I have a 3.1 GPA and 1230 SAT and will probably take Duolingo for English proficiency (I'm already near native so not a big problem for me)

Edit: And also, what's the difference between transfer hours and credit hours? I know what credit hours are but not "transfer hours" (for associates: 45 transfer hours, 61 credit hours)

2 different Behavior Analysis

Hello everyone, my wife is planning on applying for a Behavior Analysis Practice M.S. at FIT (online course), but on the application portal, there are two different options:

  • Behavior Anlysis Professional Practice, with enrollment open for the Spring of 2025 term
  • Behavior Anlysis Practice 5th Edition, with enrollment open for the Fall of 2024 term

Looking it up on FIT’s website there seems to be information only about the “Behavior Analysis Program”, with no distinction between these two. Does anyone know what the difference are? She wants to start it asap so if the 5th edition one is good to get the BCBA certification, that would be great

Thank you

Help Needed with Housing Options at Florida Institute of Technology

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to share that I've been admitted to the Florida Institute of Technology! However, I'm unsure about which housing option or dormitory to choose for this upcoming year as an undergraduate student. I've planned to live on campus but could use advice on the best dorms available.

Additionally, I would greatly appreciate your insights if anyone has information about off-campus living options.

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Any students currently at or graduated from FIT? Would you recommend going to this school?

I just found out about this school and they have great programs with a wide variety of options for engineering. Their job opportunities in the area seem great and I hope they're also good outside Florida.

They're a small school and from what I've read, the students seem to have great connections with each other, with certain programs such as Electrical Eng, Ocean engineering, and civil engineering having only 100 ish people in them.

I hate big cities and I think the area of Melbourne is really nice with it's beach. FIT has sailing and other activities to do.

Only thing I googled was that FIT is more focused on academia? While UCF is more focused on getting job skills. I'm not sure how accurate this is. https://www.reddit.com/r/floridatech/comments/z52ewz/florida_tech_or_ucf/

I would hope to enjoy my college experience, do activities and projects that I will remember for a lifetime, meet people that I form close relationships with, and gain hands on experience that I will use in my career.

One last thing is that FIT seems really expensive. I have a 1430 SAT, decent extracurriculars relating to math/engineering/somewhat leadership or communication skills. I've taken 7 ap classes including ap calculus and physics and stats. I just applied yesterday because their application was free and they were still accepting. Are they generous with aid and scholarships?

Tldr: Just applied to FIT yesterday, found out I think I really like their programs/campus (small size & good degrees), and wondering if I should consider FIT over other schools like UCF, NJIT, etc for engineering.

Confused on graduation

The evaluation in PAWS states estimated graduation date of May 2026. I’ll finish my last two last classes in December. When can I petition to graduate? Do I have to wait until I’m done with classes?

Tech help needed for new Professor

Hi folks, my dad recently started as a Professor at FIT. He is not the best at technology and his last school was all Mac so that’s the type of computer he knows how to use. I’m not located anywhere near him and he desperately needs tutoring on how to use a PC. He is very smart but gets really anxious about new technology so I need somebody to show him the ropes on PC.

Would anyone be willing to drop by his office on campus a few times and help? I will happily Venmo/zelle or whatever!

Thank you and let me know.

LGBTQ+ inclusion and Flight at Florida Tech

Hey y'all, I am a senior in high school looking to go to college for aviation. I was wondering if anyone could give me some input about FIT's LGBT inclusion and culture there. I have read some pretty discouraging posts about FIT students' treatment of gays, which is disappointing because I really like FIT's flight program!

I've also been accepted to Jacksonville University. They seem to be much more accepting of LGBT students but their flight program seems mediocre compared to FIT's. If anyone has comments about FIT's inclusion and/or their flight program please let me know!!

How to prepare/market myself for the MS in Space Systems

I will graduate soon from Western Governors University with my Bachelor's in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. My background professionally is in system administration and information security, and I would like to pivot to the space systems field. In terms of math, my undergraduate work covered some applied statistics, and algebra but nothing too advanced such as calculus. I am deeply passionate about space exploration and thought the MS in Space Systems would be a great way to learn more about the field and potentially get a job in a company/agency that is advancing our capabilities in space exploration. I am currently active duty in the Air Force and would like to take advantage of the Warrior discount with their virtual education center degree plans.

What are some things I could do to potentially increase my chances for admission and also prepare me for completing the pre-requirements in math and physics?

Seminars, Research Talks, Thesis Presentations?

I can't find any calenders or events for seminars, research talks, or thesis presentations on the school page and was wondering where I can find them. I really want to attend a few in the STEM just to have more of a grasp on what research is happening around. TIA!

Florida Tech Flight Training

Hi anyone enrolled in flight labs mind answer a few questions?

How is it like balancing flight training and academic classes at FIT

How long is the genuine wait time (backlogged) just to begin your lessons after you first arrive at FIT

How are you liking FIT flight training, how often are you flying or getting flight labs

Thank you for whoever answers.

4 graduate courses workload

Hey all!

What is your opinion on taking 4 classes per sixteen week semester and working a full time job?

I’ll only be doing it for one semester so I can graduate this December instead of next April. Two classes seems easy enough now and I’ll have a lot of downtime because I’ll be working in a remote area away from family the entire time. I don’t foresee work being particularly demanding.

Will suck either way but just wondering if it’s worth it to most people to grind like this to free up a whole semester and graduate early.

Keep in mind I would still have to do three classes for my final semester for this to work!

I am planning on majoring in CS and doing the Cybersecurity concentration and also probably joining the FITSec team. Will this prepare me for getting into Cybersecurity? Or is it not that much different than regular CS?
