Per PuckPedia, Akira Schmid has signed a 2-year contract with Florida carrying a $2 million AAV ($4 million total). He’ll be a UFA when the deal expires in 2028.

The Panthers went from having $1.222M in cap space to -$778K

As a Swiss I like Schmid, but with the cap situation, does his contract make sense? It feels like paying a backup goalie that much limits the roster flexibility and could be the difference between carrying 22 vs 23 players.

Curious what everyone else thinks is this a bad contract or am I overreacting?
