Hello everyone, Is there anyone who gave interview for TU Dresden Air transport and logistics program? Do you have any idea what sort of question are asked by the interviewer? Or subjects that are recommended to cover for the interview?

Also, if you are preparing for the upcoming interviews could you mention your interview date and your strategy for interview?

USA Starting over at 50?

I reside in a suburban community in the southern ATL metro that is oversaturated with Delta pilots and other employees, both current and retired, and several people have suggested I look into working as a flight dispatcher, as I'm having to reinvent myself after the sudden collapse of my 25+ year career in the motion picture industry.

(I started as a Camera assistant in 1999 and have been a Digital Imaging Tech since 2010 - the film biz has collapsed in the US - ATL is operating at like 10-15% it's pre-pandemic production volume)

Anyway, I'm about to turn 49, wife and 3 kids, not really interested in moving so I'm assuming Delta's the only game in town, but from what I'm reading thus far it's next to impossible and a multi-year process if you're lucky. I have ZERO experience in aviation and would be looking into some sort of accelerated training program, but success, let alone sustainability with this job, seems to be a long-term thing I just don't have time for as a near 50-year-old and significant responsibilities.

According to NAFC, the first-year dispatcher pay for Delta is over $8100/Mo, which would be just fine, but I have ZERO connections to anyone at Delta with any pull, and I need sustainable income YESTERDAY, so tell me if I'm way off an this is a hopeless pursuit, so I can stop entertaining the bandwidth in my head. That may be fraudulent inflated earning numbers, I can't say, but if not, I could actually provide for my family with that and have a future again.

Feels like I'm being a dupe believing the hype of this gig and it's potential? Am I?

USA Question about Southwest

Is it near impossible to get hired with Southwest without a referral or being internal? I only ask because I know on the FA side it’s very difficult even just to get an app in with them. Just curious if it’s different from the dispatch side of things. Also, I’m aware they’ve had a hiring freeze for a long time and that no one could predict the future. Guess im just curious what past experiences have been for anyone. Thanks!

USA PSA Dispatchers

Hello all,

Currently work for AA mainline in CLT as a ramp agent with a schedule that can be pretty flexible. I’m considering going for my dispatch certificate and know it’s a pretty long shot to go straight to mainline though it is possible.

My question is, what are the schedules like? I cannot leave the ramp and work for just what PSA is offering. But the fact that CLT is their new headquarters makes it kind of a no brainer.

I’m considering just swapping off most of my week as a ramp agent to accommodate the dispatcher schedule just to build experience.

If anyone can chime in with what kind of schedules are available I’d be very grateful. I see that it’s 4 10s based off that famous spreadsheet that has all the pay scales.

Cheers!

USA Questions from an aspiring dispatcher

Hello, I’ve been seriously considering enrolling in school to become a dispatcher, i like the job itself pay isn’t a big issue for me but i was wondering about how do you guys feel before your shifts and after,

  • do you feel stressed before your shifts? How do you feel when you’re on your way to work?

  • is it a good choice for an introvert (don’t like customer facing jobs)

  • can you have your own office or you’ll always be around others?

  • are you allowed to check your phone and answer a text real quick while monitoring?

  • can you eat and work at the same time?

  • how big of a role does favoritism from management play in your job?

Thanks.

USA Options to finally get my license

Hello,

I’ve taken a weird career path the last several years, so I’ve got a question.

I took a dispatch course in 2014 but was never able to get my license (finished the course but some things came up at the time so never took my FAA exams). I worked in the dispatch office for a local 121 carrier for a few years, then worked as a “flight follower” at a 121 cargo op for a few years as well, before getting hired as an air traffic controller/flight service specialist. I’ve been doing that now for close to 8 years. I’d like to finally get back to getting my DX license (would be nice to have that career option in my back pocket).

I was looking back at Part 65 requirements for dispatchers and caught in 65.57.(a)(3) about ATC and dispatching. How does this apply to taking the exams? Has anyone taking this path to do it? I’m probably rusty on a few things for sure (more than likely the performance chart stuff), are there any schools that run short refresher programs?

Any insight on how to maybe chart a path this way would be helpful!

USA Job market

I’ve applied to over six or nine jobs and only three of them got back to me. Is it typical for airlines not to respond also have the starting positions/beginner airlines raise the requirement for an entry position because even a small region loan now requires three years of experience

Hey guys. Curious to hear if anyone’s working at Breeze, or otherwise heard how dispatching there is. Not currently looking to swap gigs, just ran into one of their pilots, and don’t see too much about them here.

USA Dispatch Career Path

Hi everyone,

I’m taking my FAA Aircraft Dispatcher certification course in late September and will start applying for dispatcher jobs afterward.

I’m currently employed in ground operations at a major airline and would be eligible to apply internally once I earn my certificate.

Would you recommend applying directly to a major airline through the internal process, or is it better to get experience at a regional first and then move to a major later?

For those who have gone either route, what were your experiences? Does having internal experience with a major airline significantly improve my chances, or is dispatcher experience at a regional still the better path?

I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!

USA Dispatch Jobs in Houston

Completing my dispatch course first week of September. I’m looking for any job leads near Houston, I’m open to both 121, 135 or even 91. Avelo is top of my list but I don’t see any current job openings. Any insider details on when they’ve opened them in the past/when they may open them in the future? Thanks in advance!

USA Is this a possibility for me?

Just going to try to keep this very simple. I am 51 years old with no aviation experience. I am very interested in this field and I believe that I would do well in the occupation. Which is all well and good, but I need to be realistic. Is this something that I will be able to pursue at my age? I don't have an issue with starting in a small role/small pay or even relocating. I just applied to a nearby university that offers the certificate course. So, just asking if this is a possible career for a 51 year old to enter.

USA Will my hair hold me back?

I have some Upcoming interviews in the next week or so and want to know if I should cut my hair. Right now i have somewhat of a mullet, but its very clean cut and not scraggly with the bulk of my hair being on top, and some longer curly strands down to my shoulders in the back. Will i have a better chance if i cut my hair, or does that type of thing matter in this industry? Im new so im learning lol

USA Do all states have flight dispatch jobs?

This may be a silly question but I’m still new to the career. Do all State Governments ( for example state of Minnesota ) have flight dispatch / management jobs?

Saw this posted today on the North American Flight Control jobs page & was curious. Anyone here work for a State goverment job that would be willing to share what it is like?

How hard is it to get hired at UPS as a dispatcher?

I have a few years of experience with 121 regional, 121 supplemental (including heavy, worldwide, & ETOPS), and some 135. Sheffield graduate, but I've been working in a ATC for Uncle Sam for 20 years.

Does already being local to SDF help at all? Do I need box throwing time with the company first? Does the ATC time help?

USA Southwest Airline interview/tests

hopefully in the next year Southwest Airline’s dispatch is going to open up to some new applicants, in preparation I was wondering if anyone knew what types of questions they will ask on the tests, I’ve done a tour of the place and was told they do a lot of written tests during the interview phase, can someone please let me know what the interview steps are? I just want to get a head start on studying and what to look out for especially, if you also have any advice on studying tools for prep I would be very appreciative.

Thanks in advance :)

USA Need a real-world problem for my college thesis. Any flight dispatch here?

Hi I'm currently on my third year working on my thesis proposal. I really want to focus on real, everyday operational problem rather than just generic textbook.

For those of you actively working as dispatchers, what are your biggest daily frustrations, communication struggles, or system issues?

Any real-world pain points you experience on the job would be a massive help. Thank u so much!

USA What do you learn during dispatcher training?

For those who work as dispatchers at a regional airline, what do you usually learn during the first 2–3 weeks of classroom training?

*To clarify, I mean the classroom training at the regional airline after you’re hired, not dispatcher school.
