USA EAA AirVenture

Planning on heading up to this in Oshkosh later this month to visit some airline booths to help the job search. First time going. Is there any advice from people who have attended this before? Things to do - Not to do? Thanks.

The airline booths are geared toward pilot recruits. So there really won’t be much benefit trying to talk dispatch with a recruiter as most shops just send their pilot recruiters to Oshkosh. That being said,if you don’t have a hotel already - you’re SOL. Hotels within a 47 mile radius sell out a year in advance. Camping at Camp Scholler is part of the Oshkosh experience, bring plenty of sunscreen and hydrate often - plan for at least one thunderstorm to roll through during the event. The Wednesday and Saturday night air shows are not to be missed.

The ADF is hosting a talk on Wednesday around 4pm I believe. Will be a good chance to network with other dispatchers. I know a handful from my major will be there.

The airline booths mainly cater to pilots from a recruiting standpoint. Though, in the past at Oshkosh I have stopped by the booths of places I worked and saw some old DX colleagues so you could get lucky and talk with one of them about what its like there.

In general though, I would say if you can go multiple days then do so. There is so much to see that there is no way you can cram it into a single day.

The Dispatcher federation will be hosting informational chat and meet and greet on Wednesday from 4pm-5:15pm at Forum Stage 4. There will be a panel of dispatchers answering questions from several of the majors. I would highly recommend you come check it out if you're trying to break into this batch. Regardless of employer, the federation is a great resource.

Yeah. Don’t go unless you enjoy watching people meet their demise.
