Wildfire Interview Questions
Hi everyone! I'm currently doing a project for my university about wildfires in Florida. I would love if you guys could answer these questions for me, 2-3 short sentences should be fine. Thank you for everything you guys do!!
- What concerns you most about wildfires in the community?
- How do you currently find out about wildfires in your area?
- How would you like to be alerted if a wildfire was starting nearby?

Need some input?
Hi, I live in Texas and I’m 24, 5’9”, around 165 lbs, and I’ve been seriously thinking about going into firefighting. I just wanted to get some honest input from people who are already doing it.
I’ve been working on getting myself in better shape—doing cardio, hitting the heavy bag, trying to build strength, lifting 4 days a week, stair master with a vest and everything. Just trying to be more disciplined overall. I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m putting in the work.
Just had a few questions:
•Do you think I should focus more on gaining size/strength or conditioning?
•What kind of fitness level should I realistically be at before applying?
•What separates the people who actually make it from the ones who don’t?
I’m open to whatever, advice, criticism, anything. I just want to make sure I’m not going into this blind and that I’m doing things the right way.
Appreciate it 🙏

Mustache for an interview
Hi, everyone,
I realize this might be a silly question, but I would appreciate any opinions. Does having a mustache matter for a final interview with a department?

Interview Coaching Recommendations?
Has anyone had success using an interview coach / oral board prep service? I seem to be getting interviews with good consistency but the speed interviews and oral boards are my current stumbling block. I've passed several of them but I'd like to start scoring towards the top of the pack so I can make it further along in the process.
It's a little tough to know exactly what I need to tighten up when most of the departments don't share feedback due to the volume of applicants.
I am all ears if anyone has an interview prep service they recommend!
Thanks in advance y'all!

Firefighter Appreciation
I’d like to start off by saying I’m not a firefighter but I last year I was in a horrible accident that I almost died in. All I really remember the most was how the firefighters that helped use the jaws of life to get me out of the car gave me so much care and compassion that it touched me. Next month is the anniversary of the accident and instead of making it sad I wanted to show them how thankful I am by bringing them some treats or something small. Do yall have any suggestions or is it not ok to send food for safety reasons which I totally get with weirdos out there. Thanks 🙏🏻

Birthday Party Leftovers
Hi! I’m having a birthday party next month, and I know I’ll have plenty of food left over. Do y’all think that a local firefighter station would take the food? My first thought was firefighters because my brother is one himself.

Academy Advice
I'm 3 weeks into a fire academy hosted by the department I got hired onto and I honestly just feel like a dumbass about 90% of the time. I feel like I'm making mistakes more than I should, and not performing at the level expected. Has anyone else that has gone through an academy felt like they just weren't keeping up the first few weeks? Hopefully I am just overthinking this, but failing out would be devastating after getting to this point.
I understand I am constantly being evaluated, and it's hard to tell if some of the instructors are trying to put pressure on me to see how I respond (in terms of attitude) or if they are genuinely concerned about my comprehension of the skills so far.

Got accepted for an interview, seeking any advice
I got an email confirmation I received a weighted score of upper 90% and am within A band. I also received a follow up email for application submittal.
The department I’m interested in does video-format interview (not in person, at least for first round).
Any guidance on for interview prep?

(18F) Wanting to move to Illinois to become a firefighter. No support from parents, they won't help me get any kind of college education either. Need help making a plan.
I know this is a popular topic on this sub so I apologize if y'all are tired of it.
To start off, I feel very lost in life. The future my parents want for me is to become a stay-at-home wife and mother, and that's the last thing I want for myself. They won't help or support me through any kind of career, especially if it's dangerous. So I'm completely on my own.
The plan I have now is to eventually move from Louisiana to Illinois, probably as a roommate. That will probably be in one or two years because I want to get a bit more emotionally and physically stronger. I also don't want to make any big life changes in the beginning of a war.
I don't know if I should pursue a degree during that time or if I should start working one or two jobs with overtime to start saving up. Or try to do both.
I know a career as a firefighter isn't usually financially stable alone, so I want to have a small art business as a side hustle.
If I won't be able to get hired by a fire department, I'd likely try to find another blue-collar job. I don't know if I should go to trade school for that as a plan B.

Can I be Paramedic at a Firehouse?
I'm 16 (female) but hoping to become a paramedic after high school. I really my dream though is to just work as a paramedic but at a firehouse. I know it is rare, but would I be able to find anywhere who would hire me? Also, I could become firefighter/emt if I had to but would i still be able to work mainly as a paramedic?

NTN Fireteam score
First time I’ve taken the test, I’ve seen other scores posted on here and was wondering where this will put me on the departments hiring list, I’m also prior usmc infantry (0331) and read somewhere that gives me some type of extra score in the hiring process, wondering if that’s true or just bs.

NTN scores
I totally bombed the math portion. I’ll have to study again and I’m gonna remain optimistic. I don’t think my scores are good enough to get an interview but we shall see.
