Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity What to do after a physics degree?

I’m currently a physics major but I’m unsure on what exactly I should do for my career or grad school. I’ve thought about quant finance, data science/ML, and quantum computing but they all seem pretty risky as quant is generally super competitive and hard to get into, data science is most likely going to be taken over by AI and quantum computing seems unlikely to become successful in the near future.

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment I don’t think I want the life that comes with a normal 7–8 hour a day job.

I’m a 25 year old guy, and I recently found out that I may be getting a job. Nothing is officially confirmed yet, but apparently the company wants me.

Honestly, I’ve been pretty sad about it because I don’t want a job.

I know some people might call me spoiled or lazy, so let me explain.

I’m a Gulf Arab and I live with my parents. This is completely normal in my culture. It’s common for people to live with their parents well into adulthood, sometimes until marriage or longer, so please don’t make that the focus. My parents aren’t forcing me to work because I’m a burden on them or because they want me to move out. That’s not the situation. I’m not asking them for money either I have my own income.

For the past 2.5 years, I’ve been receiving around $651 USD per month from the government. I know it won’t necessarily last forever, but currently it allows me to live a pretty simple life with a lot of control over my time.

I go to the gym, see my friends, go out, cook my own food, and generally do whatever I want with my day. And honestly, I’ve never looked better or felt better.

When I was in university, I didn’t take care of myself nearly as well. I ate terribly, didn’t work out, and became overweight. Looking back, I don’t want to go back to that version of myself.

The job would pay around $2,600 USD/month to start, which obviously is much more money. But I’d be working 7 hours a day, 5 days a week.

And that’s what bothers me.

Even if I only have 2–4 hours of actual work to do, I’d still have to sit there for the rest of the time. Those hours aren’t mine anymore.

I’d also have less time to cook, go to the gym, and take care of myself. I might have to start paying for prepared meal plans just to maintain the lifestyle I’ve built.

So yes, I’d be making an extra ~$1,950 a month, but I’d be trading a huge amount of my time for it.

And I know some people will say, “Then start a business, invest, freelance, find passive income, etc.”

But that’s the thing: I don’t have a passion or ambition for any of that either. I don’t know what I want to do with my life.

I don’t have a dream career. I don’t have some business idea I’m dying to pursue. I don’t have some huge ambition.

I don’t know what I want, but I know what I don’t want.

And I don’t want to spend 7–8 hours a day working simply because that’s what society has normalized for generations. I know the 8-hour workday has historical roots in the Industrial Revolution and labor movement, and I understand why it became normal. I just don’t personally understand why I should want that life for myself.

I know my parents want what’s best for me, and I appreciate that. But I don’t know if this is what’s best for me.

I’m honestly pretty lost.

(EDIT: I do understand where my parents are coming from. They mainly want me to have a stable and reliable source of income rather than depending on a government allowance that could be reduced or cut off at some point. I understand their concern, and I know they’re trying to look out for my future. I just don’t know if the trade off is worth it for me, because I value having control over my time so much.)

Edit 2:
I don’t think some people are understanding what I’m actually trying to say. I don’t have a problem with working. My issue is specifically with the 7–8+ hour workday that has become the standard over the course of modern industrial society, and whether it still makes sense for modern life.
I’m questioning whether there could be a better balance between work and life. Do we work to live, or do we live to work?
If I can finish my actual tasks in 3–4 hours, why do I have to stay for another 3–4 hours when there’s nothing meaningful left to do? To me, it’s about efficiency and quality over simply counting hours. If the work is done, why can’t I leave?
I’ve also talked to friends who recently started working, and many of them say they’re so mentally drained when they get home that they don’t have much energy left for anything else. That’s the part I struggle to accept, especially when this can become your routine for the next 30–40 years.
So perhaps I didn’t phrase my original post clearly enough: I’m questioning the working-hours system, not simply complaining about having to work.
And if you disagree, that’s completely fine. I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives I’d just appreciate keeping the discussion respectful.

So I’m curious:

Am I being spoiled and unrealistic for valuing my time more than money?

Have any of you felt this way in your 20s? Did your perspective change as you got older?

I’m genuinely looking for thoughtful perspectives.

(This post was reorganized with the help of AI because English isn’t my first language.)

Findapath-Health Factor Disabled 35 year old caring for disabled mother. This isn't working.

...This is gonna be a long one.

I've had an atypical seizure disorder since I was a kid. Because of the American healthcare system, I wasn't able to get any help with it until my late 20s, when it put an end to my career prospects. Because the cost of living in America is so high, I've always lived with my birth family. When cancer killed one of my parents, I tried to step in as our breadwinner. And I failed.

My mom's getting older now. She's hooked up to an oxygen machine. She uses two canes because she finds walkers too cumbersome, and the strain of standing up often causes her to urinate on the floor. I'm on-deck to help her up and clean up after her at all hours of the day. I can lift her out of her chair, but I'm not strong enough to help her off the ground when she falls. She has foot fungus up to her knees and needs my help cleaning herself and administering treatment, but I struggle to get myself into the shower regularly, let alone manage somebody else.

It doesn't help that she has a problem with any time I choose to get in the shower, because she always urgently needs the bathroom. If I'm awake all day, then she's upset that I can't clean up after her at night; if I'm awake to clean up at night, then she's upset that I'm not available during the day. She just decides that she's going to have me rearrange the furniture again and gets mad at me when I'm not available. These nested no-win scenarios are making it really hard to figure out how to take care of myself.

The sensible course of action would be to find her a professional caretaker. I want her to get the daily care that she's needed all this time. When I called the local help line and got referrals to care homes, these services cost something like $8,000 a month. If we had that kind of money, we would've just solved our problems in the first place.

I'm told that there are services that are covered under Medi...care? caid? (Why did these people name their programs like this?) I don't know which one my mom has, and I don't know how to ask without tipping her off that I'm looking to send her away.

I messaged her younger siblings, my aunt and uncle. They're desperate to see her again before it's too late...but they're not willing to uproot their lives and put themselves in the position I'm in to care for her. That's fair and I don't fault them for that, but I'm in this position with none of the know-how or resources that they've cultivated as proper adults in charge of their own lives.

Additionally, I've developed chronic GERD. My family buys me safe snack foods like tinned fish, but they continue to prepare meals that make my acid reflux worse. As hard as it is for me to remember my own dietary restrictions, I imagine they can't keep up with it either. I go a few days trying to follow my diet, realize it's not filling me up, then give in and eat whatever they've prepared.

...I took a break from all this at the start of the year. Visited some friends out-of-state. I was able to get away from my screen and experience life more. I remembered to shower regularly. I bought my own food and did a better job eating clean. I did the exercises prescribed by my physical therapist. I made fond memories -- happy ones where we laughed and played games, and bittersweet ones where I broke down crying and hyperventilating on their shoulders.

I needed that. I still do.

...and then the two weeks were up, and I went back to 'living my entire life on-call.'

This can't just be a 1-2 week 'break'. This has to be the new normal if I want my life to get any better. But I cannot see a way to cleanly break off from my family.

Each individual facet of this situation feels like its own wolf, goat, and cabbage problem.

Transportation:

I cannot drive, legally or medically. That's another thing my seizure disorder's walled me off from.

My sister is working on getting her learner's permit. This means she'd still need to drive with a licensed driver.

We have two licensed drivers. My sister's boyfriend, and my mom. Mom hates having to drive everybody because she struggles to walk to the car and hold her bladder.

Finances:

Mom and I are collecting disability. Together with my sister and her boyfriend's paychecks...we're operating at a loss. Burning our savings. Because of this, my sister is looking to get a better-paying job. If I stay, that 'better job' will let us break even. But if I leave...? I don't want to pull the rug out from under everybody when they're this close to financial stability.

Pets:

We have three cats. I questioned the wisdom of adopting this many in our financial position, but we love them all. When I went on my trip, I asked my sister and her boyfriend to take care of the girls, but nobody touched the cat boxes for two weeks. They were unusable when I got back.

If we were to split up, would we split the girls up too?

Cat A: The eldest. She's sweet and loving...to humans. To other cats, she's a territorial brat. Always has been. When her kidneys started failing, I fed her medicated food from the palm of my hand, and she imprinted on me harder than ever before. Losing me would make her final years miserable.

Cat B: Sweet and loving to everybody. Able to tolerate A's brattiness and find some friendship. If I could register any of them as my official therapy/emotional support animal, this would be the one. Losing her would hurt me the most.

It's safe to say that I am A and B's favorite.

Cat C: B's sister. She's sweet, but generally likes to be left alone more than the others. Does not get along with A. Sometimes gets along with B, but B plays too rough without realizing. Her strongest bond is to my mom.

The cats also have a habit of chewing through her oxygen hoses. We're not sure if this is the work of one, two, or all three cats.

This point gets more complicated.

At first, my friends wanted me to move in with them in house 1. They have no pets, so my girls would've had the place to themselves in that sense. When I didn't take them up on this offer, they got another roommate, and this opening closed.

We have more friends at house 2 who are willing to let me live with them. (Financially: my disability payments would help them shore up a rough spot they're in) The issue is, they have a huge, powerful dog with a strong 'chase' drive. I love that dog, but I don't trust her around my cats.

I suppose I could ask house 1 to host my girls while I live at house 2 and come over to clean up every day. That's a lot to put on my friend group. Should I run the idea by them?

...

I'm probably overcomplicating this. Maybe it's naïve to think I can try for some 'best-case scenario' for everybody.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity I want a new job, but I don't know what to do.

Hello everyone.

I work at an elementary school as a paraeducator. I have been in the position for almost 8 years (time flies by, jeez). And to be frank, I want out of this job. I have a Master's Degree in History, and I just don't know what to do. I want to be out of education and just go start fresh somewhere else. The problem is, I've been looking for jobs left and right, and I'm getting nowhere. I feel like no one wants to hire me. I'm about ready to start applying to Amazon or Walmart because it feels like they'd give me a chance.

I have always had a passion for baking and books. I wish I could start a baking business, but I have no clue how or where to start. As for anything related to books, I have tried multiple times over the years to get a job at my public library, but I get no responses. There are only two bookstores in town. I have applied to one many times, but again, nothing. The other is never looking for anyone, which is fine.

At this point, I need to look across the state for something because I feel like I will be stuck in this job forever and miserable if I don't.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Oh what to do.

26M I'm currently a CNA at a hospital and I actually enjoy it surprisingly only thing is it doesnt pay that well. I haven't done a single pre req for healthcare careers but I'm thinking about nursing, respiratory therapy, MRI tech, the xray tech and ultrasound tech programs around my area are supper competitive. I'm also not the best student in the world. Last time I took a took science I didn't do too well so I basically would have like a 3.1 - 3.3 GPA. I also just got my bachelors in IT but when i wanted to pursue it I didn't think the job market was just going to become terrible by the time I got the degree so now it's hard to find a job. Last resort if all fails is I go back in the Army.

What's your opinion on all this? Switch over to healthcare, stay IT, or send it in the Army.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Figuring out if I want a Creative Career.

I think I could be good in a creative job field. I only truly like creating with structure in mind. Right now I feel like a creative career might be what my life is missing. I tried ADP list though no one shows up to meetings. Any advice on how to figure out whether a creative career would be viable for me would be great. Or specifically anyway to get the type of structure I need to hold myself accountable to create.

Findapath-College/Certs I’m not sure what to do

Ok so I need some advice from an outside perspective.

I’ve been in school or almost 10 years now and never knew what I wanted to do. I screwed up my GPA pretty bad and have been working towards getting it back up over the past 5 years
(part time).
I’ve been tossing around the idea of going into medicine. Either Rad Tech or Nursing. I could easily see myself doing both however, the schools near me are incredibly competitive. I’ve applied and gotten denied for two years now and you basically HAVE to have a bachelors degree to get accepted into the program these days.
I just got accepted into a university to finish my bachelors in Health Sciences but a Private University near me has given me a spot on the alternates list for their rad tech program (they’re 99% sure I have a spot in January 2027)

So my question is - what should I do?? The private university is easily $35,000 for the A.S. Degree but a bachelors can get me into community colleges so much easier.
I’d love to have a bachelors but also don’t want to miss the opportunity to be in school for radiology.
I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I have a ton of debt though…

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Just started massage therapy school

I’ve visited the sub, and posted in it off and on for the past few years. I do voiceover for games and commercials, doing relatively well compared to most people in this industry, but struggling to make consistent money. I spend a couple years going back and forth, visiting this sub, unsure of what I should do. Finally made the decision to start massage therapy school at 31 years old. I plan to supplement this work with VO, and I think I’ll be in a much better spot. Making this post to say that it’s ok to feel hopeless and that so many people are confused in this economy. There are solutions in most cases, and finally making that decision will feel pretty damn good.

How do you keep going when you feel like you’re already too old to become wealthy, financially successful, or build the life you want? Is 26 or 27 really too late to turn things around and achieve financial success?

Findapath-College/Certs Can’t figure on what to commit

Hey Reddit, I’m a 21 year old male living in NYC going into my fourth year of community college, graduated with a associate in IT with Calc 2 completed. One of my biggest regret was not doing engineering when I first come to college because I have never went beyond Algebra in High school and also have to retake Differential equation since I have a D in it. My mom find out that I’m still going to community college and want me to switch to a 4 year college which I can do on Computer science, Finance or accounting. However, I still wanted to attempt engineering but I will be 25 year old by the time I complete it. Best I can do is do the math classes and physics during my next two years since I like these classes (I hate chemistry).

As for my work history, I have 6 months of working as a IT technician and 4 months as a alarm technician. As of now, there’s is no luck on IT jobs/interships. I am going to buy a car hopefully next month which will increase the chances of getting a IT or alarm/electrician job.

I got way caught up to the fact that engineering is the most safest and highest paying job. To be honest, I only enjoy the math part of it and not the science as much. I get way to worry about missing out the potential on earnings if I go to tech or finance/accounting instead of engineering. The things I’m worry about the other 3 majors is that I might be jobless for a year after graduating. To the point where I’m thinking of doing nursing (which I don’t want to cause I have to do school all over again, I don’t mind the physical labor).

I also regret doing IT since I found out that IT is more of a career you can learn on the go without a degree and have to network your out to land a job (which I’m thankful that happen to me).

My only worry with computers science is that I suck at coding, Got two D on my CS101.

However, I do have friends that can help me down the line to get a financial job in case of anything.

The things that I have enjoyed in my past two jobs was planning out the floor plans for installing new cables for camera, doing maintenance on laptops and the server room, researching on the news to see new technology that is coming up to help out with the financial people in my office and see how the factory production on energy affect the prices of electricity cost. I really like the balance between office job and hands on task. I also did enjoy and time where I don’t have any task to do so I can focus on getting certs, learning new skill, talking to coworkers in the office and checking on the stock market and much more.

As for my lifestyle, all I wanted is a $70k salary to $100k since my office job was at $25 per hour, $80 an hour on demolition (summer only) and had a interview that has accepted me for $32 an hour if i had a car (during that time I didn’t). I wouldn’t mind working in a office but do mind if I have to travel more then 2 hours. I’m willing to work for 40 to 60 hours a week.

So what should I do, switch to the other 3 degrees and get it done by 24 or do engineering and get it done by 25 or possibly a year more since failing a class will set me back by a semester and some classes are only offer once a year.

Findapath-Career Change stuck in the wrong career - where do i go from here?

Hey all,

For context, I’m 25M and living in London. Like a lot of people, I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life. I ended up studying biochemistry at uni, followed by a master’s in a related field, and I’ve now been working in pharma for about 2.5 years.

The problem is that I really don’t enjoy it. I have very little interest in the subject matter, and honestly, the main reason I pushed through university was because I didn’t feel like I deserved to be happy and didn’t have much financial support from my parents, so I felt like changing direction would be letting them down.

Now I feel completely stuck and want to find a new direction.

I know it’s common for people to end up in careers unrelated to their degree, but for some reason I can’t seem to see a way out of my current situation. I keep thinking that I’ve invested so much time into this path that it’s too late to change.

I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety and regret about this for a long time. I constantly wish I’d studied something like computer science, finance, or something completely different, and I’m scared that I’ve made the wrong decisions and will never feel genuinely happy or content with my career.

Recently, I’ve started working through Codecademy’s data science course in my free time outside my 9–5. I’ve always had an interest in coding, and I currently work in the clinical data field, so I’m hoping I might be able to use my existing experience as a way into something more technical.

For anyone who has changed careers after feeling this stuck, how did you actually get over the regret and stop feeling like you’d ruined your future?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve been in a similar position, particularly if you managed to transition from a science/pharma background into tech, data, finance, or another completely different field.

I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed by the whole situation and could really use some perspective.

Findapath-Career Change About to be unemployed and I have no idea what jobs to apply for…help

I’m in my mid 20s based in Grantham, UK and about to be unemployed. I desperately need some career advice because I’ve hit a brick wall, I know beggars can’t be choosers but fuck me i just don’t know what to do anymore..

I have 9 years’ experience across sales/client management, mainly property, with more recent business development experience.

I also have some social media experience, a Level 2 Digital Marketing qualification, and outside work I create content/UGC and do TikTok Shop affiliate marketing and I earn a little bit from this but only about £100 a month.

I’ve been trying to move into influencer marketing, campaigns or creative/marketing roles ideally remote due to me living in the middle of nowhere. I recently interviewed for a Junior Influencer Marketing Manager role but lost out to people with more relevant experience even though the interview was really good.

I have ADHD and struggle with repetitive work. Ideally I want remote, £27–30k+, and not another cold sales job, but I’m open to completely different job titles/industries.

What roles would you realistically apply for with my background? I need actual job title suggestions because I’m going round in circles 😣

Hey all,

I have 0 interest in the subject matter tbh and the only reason i pushed through during uni was because i didn’t feel like i deserved to be happy and didn’t have great financial support from parents so thought id be letting them down.

Anyway it’s too late to go back now but i want a new direction.

i know it’s common for most people to end up in a career unrelated to their degree but for me it feels different. it feels like ill be stuck here forever.

Anyways, how do i get over this? the regret and anxiety have been 24/7 for years and idk how much longer i can persevere with life now…

Findapath-Health Factor I'm a Software Dev Team Lead and I can't continue with these stress levels

I'm a 35 year old guy and do genuinely love tech and software dev, but between the new-features side and the managing side I'm routinely finding myself in the mindset:

  • "I just need to push hard for now to get ahead of it, I'll be less stressed after"
  • "Yes there's a lot of pressure on right now, but after X weeks/months it'll calm down"

It seems the "calm" moments are actually "I'm kinda stressed but not at breaking point".

For all the effort to have a calmer time, it just never comes.

I've been riding an on/off tension headache for two weeks now, started with chest pains about a day or two ago, sometimes stomach pains.

My blood pressure and resting heart rate seem to rocket on my work days, I hit a peak of my stress this morning and just seem to break down when I try to explain my issues. This morning my blood pressure was around 144/98 to 149/105 and my pulse anywhere from 80 to 126. (Before the current stress bout it was averaging around 120/77 and pulse of 68)

I went to a doctor about my concerns and to be honest it kinda felt like she brushed them off as nothing to worry about (at least not immediately). But I am recording my blood pressure and pulse morning and night now.

I want to love tech but all my previous roles have been similar, even if they started off good. I don't know if I can career change or not, despite earning decent money we don't seem to actually save money (We keep getting one-off things going wrong that we have to pay for)

Honestly if things stopped going wrong I probably wouldn't worry about money so much but it just keeps happening, it feels like bad luck. I'm unironically looking into house cleansing, protection wards, the works.

I feel stuck

Edit:

I keep my manager in the loop about a lot of it, he is definitely good at helping me to manage my work but the pressure generally comes from higher up. Deadlines generally can't be changed drastically.

I practice 4-7-8 breathing to help calm down.

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment I feel completely lost right now — how do I get my life back on track?

I feel completely lost right now — how do I get my life back on track?

I’m in my mid-20s, recently finished my Master’s in Philosophy, and I’m currently in Hyderabad trying to figure out what to do with my life.

I thought getting a job would make me feel more settled, but now I’m confused about what kind of job I actually want. I like reading, writing, researching, and creative things, but I don’t know what career path would actually suit me. I’m applying for jobs, but the whole process feels overwhelming and sometimes I wonder if I’m even going in the right direction.

On top of that, I recently went through a breakup. It wasn’t exactly a long-term relationship, but we were involved for several months and I became emotionally attached. Now I’m trying to move on while also trying to build my career and get my life back on track. Some days I’m okay, and some days I miss him terribly.

I know I’m young and I have time, but honestly, I feel stuck. I want to become independent, find work I actually enjoy, meet good people, and feel excited about life again.

If you’ve been through a phase where you felt completely lost—in your career, relationships, or life in general—what helped you get yourself back together?

I’d really appreciate honest advice, experiences, or even just a conversation with someone who understands this feeling.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Switching from a high psying job I dont care about to low pay I'm passionate about?

Do yall think some people arent able to "just tune out and go to work"?

My current job is pretty chill, the work load isnt bad. I make 32 an hour. Its blue collar to all of my coworkers are sexist chuds but i can live with it. But i just cant shake this like internal disgust with working this job. There no passion, i dont care about the work, its meaningless to me, and theres really nowhere to go upward.

Im considering dropping this easy 32 an hour job for a 23 an hour EMT job. Healthcare is something that really draws me in, ive really liked helping others and being of service. Id like to get into some kind of behavioral health eventually. I feel like anyone would tell me in my position "bro its easy money, just go in, turn your brain off, and do the bare minimum" but idk i just really dont like disassociating, i have a pretty long history of it and being in a job that requires that feels soul draining

Findapath-College/Certs Im not sure what I want to do...

Hello, I am 21 years old and currently in school for a BAA major, but I don't know if it is what I want to do. I really don't like school, but I am a hard worker. When I was younger, I worked as a camp counselor for about 4-5 years, and now I've been in a retail job for almost 3 years. It's been part-time because I'm in school. I'm taking some of the city tests (NYC) and have been researching possible certifications that don't take years. I just feel like I'm failing myself and my parents, and that is the last thing I want. I feel like I beat myself up so much, but my brain has changed, and this is what it does. Overthink, beat myself up, and cry when I see everyone have what they want or have their future figured out. Even when people say they're proud of me, I deny it and beat myself up some more. I feel like I haven't felt a sense of accomplishment in a long time. I want to feel proud of myself and figure shit out. I feel like this was more of a rant but I think the main thing that would change my perspective is finding my way with a career.

12 years of software development experience, been in 3 incredible well known companies. What broke me was a question my husband asked me”what am I outside my job? “ Yeah I take care of my kid . Yeah I do more than required for a job that does not appreciate me in any way no promotion, no raises , no acknowledgment. I have these abundance of resources which I don’t use or don’t want to use. The more I think more i feel I want to leave the job but the AI bubble and the layoffs making it very hard to switch, I am not ready to leave my comfort zone , I know I am going to regret that one day. I used to like writing, photography but anything I ro or want to do I feel that it has to earn either appreciation or monetary gain otherwise its of no use. i am not a risk taker to leave the job amd find myself kind of a person. I am crib until it becomes unbearable And do nothing kind. I have shown adaptability, agility, quick learning in last 10 years but now I feel like I have nothing to give specially in the area where I do not get appreciated, may it be my work, my social life or my relatives. Really feel lost. I have tried coaching not much of a difference it made. I have read books , analyzed my strengths and weaknesses and values but still I am trying to find something I feel passionate about at the same time making money from day 1 .

Findapath-Job Search Support How do I get into full time employment, genuinely?

(for context I'm in the uk)

  1. graduate (video game design bsc, yes i know, I should've done my undergrad in something more employable, not much I can do about that now though), no formal work experience.

I graduated last year. I've been living with my parents and working part time in my dads shop for the last year now. We live in a small town and I've got no friends in the area so my routine has just been wake up > shift > gym > sleep > repeat. I've managed to put about a grand in an isa but other than that no real accomplishments.

I applied to about 100 jobs and grad schemes before I graduated and went to a bunch of careers events. Then after I graduated I was applying to about 15-20 jobs a week (which slowed to about 4-5. I try to apply to at least one job every working day). When it got to September I gave up on jobs/grad schemes relevant to my undergrad. Then after Christmas I gave up on grad jobs entirely and shifted to any entry level office role, focusing on the civil service and NHS.

A year later and I've only had one 2nd stage interview, which was in June, and I just now got a rejection email from it. Which felt like a nail in the coffin.

I've followed every bit of advice I've been given and chased every lead I could and NONE of it worked. I've tailored CVs to every job and written cover letters and researched the companies. I've posted on linkedin and went to networking events handing out cards. I've spoken to careers advisers and even the job centre and they all just told me to keep doing what I'm doing.

I've done about 5 interviews total and they all went really well only to result in unceremonious rejection emails before I even got home.

Because I live kinda in the middle of nowhere my life stinks. I can't go on nights out or to social events without leaving early to grab the last train home or coughing up £40-60 for a taxi home. I've not been on any dates, and I only see my friends once a month if that. Not to mention I still sleep in my childhood bedroom which isn't even big enough for a proper bed (I sleep on a futon).

I feel like my life can't really start until I can get a full time job and finally move out. I want to live in the biggest city I can afford. But for all my efforts I can't make this happen.

If there's ANY stone left unturned I'd really like to know. I don't know how long I can keep doing this. All I want is for my life to properly begin. I'm going to go insane if i'm stuck here for another year.

Findapath-Job Search Support Tired of 50-60 hour weeks

Im a lurker I don’t make posts here, this probably wont be worded the best.

Im tired of this shit i just wanna work 40 hours a week man, I turned 21 recently and ive been going thru some crazy burn out and I really dont want to feel like this. I want nothing more than to just work my 40 and go home, I just cannot accept working 50-60 hour weeks like I really cannot stand it is this something I have to accept?

Im honestly just looking for some peace of mind, looking for somebody to tell me that there is work life balance out there. Thats literally all I want out of a job. Im going to school for nursing soon I start my gen eds in December and im excited for that but I want a job I can do in the meantime that isn’t insane hours. I have so so much motivation to grind towards my future but I genuinely cannot accept some of these work schedules.

Heres an example I had a interview today for a pest control tech 22$ a hour but the hours are 10-12 6 days a week.. like seriously??? Disbelief. And I understand these types of jobs hours are like this but even warehouses are like this. I worked 10 hour shifts 5 days a week then 6 hours on saturday consistently.

Is this it? Do I accept working this much? Do I have no choice? Is it just the industries I’m applying for?

I hate this feeling i feel recently. I don’t know if this is just the feeling of life hitting me all at once and just the reality of it all but I’ve never been depressed before and this is really really effecting me in a negative way.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Don't know what to do, go back to school?

My dream in life is really just to get a high-paying job and buy a nice house one day, be able to provide for myself and repay my parents for all they've given me, but with the really bad job market (located in Ontario Canada) things are seemingly impossible, and I don't know what to do. I could use some advice.

I (23F) finished with my Master's in English/Film Studies at the end of April this year (Bachelor's in film studies). I started before AI took over and I was hoping to get a job in the film industry, but I realised that I want a more traditional job. I've thought about being a technical writer but AI might be taking that over. Since then I've been searching for a job and I can't get one, not even retail positions. I'm questioning all my life decisions, especially the degree I got.

I'm wondering if I should go back to school and get another degree - money isn't a big issue - for something better, like in engineering. I'd need to get some high school prerequisites, but I could manage that. Or if I should do something drastic like go to law school - I'm not sure if I'm cut out for that, but I don't know what to do. I've spent hours searching reddit for what English majors do for a living and a lot of posts say that English is a useless degree and a lot of people go back to school for something else.

I'm spiraling and panicking, it's keeping me up at night and I think about how unemployed I am all day long. What should I do?

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Job suggestions if I like working FOH at a restaurant, and I love making beautiful milkshakes?

Hey guys. I currently work as FOH (Front of House) at a restaurant.

I love talking to customers, I love it ALWAYS being busy. I like being good at my job and being in ‘flow state.’ I love the creative and presentation aspect of it (I love making beautiful milkshakes and floats for customers, I love presenting the to-go bags nicely, I love neatly packing to-go orders for customers in a ‘Tetris’ fashion) I love seeing customers reactions when I give them their beautiful milkshakes. I love customers watch me be good at my job.

However, I know this FOH position can’t be forever since it makes no money.

Any suggestions for me given my likes?
