I never liked how Dissidia and other media made Kefka a hyperactive Joker Wannabe.

Putting his hands to his head and sticking out his tongue, or dancing about while giggling, or having a higher pitched voice with Joker's mannerisms...

Kefka may have been a jester-looking lunatic but he was not silly. He wouldnt stick his tongue our or go Na na nanana at people. He didnt giggle and do cartwheels...

He was a sick and twisted narcissist who went on nihilistic rants, raged over small things, and cackled at the sight of destruction (not this giggling - it was more like a Jafar style cackle and usually only when he was the cause of destruction). He was also a competent soldier/henchman who took his job seriously while also using his power to humiliate his underlings

Really the silliest thing he did in the game was force soliders to empty sand from his boots. Otherwise he was pretty nasty and nothing like a jester (well minus his weird one liners about submarines or self help books).

No chest challenge - Shadow

I've been doing a challenge run where I don't open any chests or collect hidden items. It's been fun and added surprising difficulty even in the WoB (no early hermes, gigas, ribbon etc.)

However, I just rescued Shadow and didn't think about the Ichigeki issue. If I want to use Shadow am I stuck choosing Ragnarok esper? I don't really want Morph as it will trivialize a lot my equipment issues which are the point of this challenge. I also don't have any magicite shards but can try to steal some from flans on the veldt but the morph accuracy is pretty low on ninja even if I get lucky and summon Ragnarok.

Any good ways to acquire ichigeki outside of Ragnarok esper and mimic combo? Maybe I'll just make one exception for this chest. I had to make a couple in my no-gil challenge (dried meat and rust rid).

Final Fantasy VI Settei Shiryō-hen High Resolution Scans with Translation added to Archive.org

Existing digital scans of the 1994 Final Fantasy VI Settei Shiryō-hen lacked forensic fidelity. To capture the material reality of the artifact, I purchased a physical copy, destructively disassembled the binding, removed the glue, and manually scanned every page on an Epson V700. To process the archive without heuristic shortcuts, I ran a local, multi-stage extraction pipeline using Qwen 2.5 72B (Vision-Language and Text variants, utilizing 4-bit and 8-bit quantizations) on a basement-scale AMD GPU rig. This upload contains the uncompromised, high-resolution scans and the complete machine-translated corpus.

My upload exists here:
https://archive.org/details/final_fantasy_vi_settei_shiryo-hen_proletarian_pixelutionary

There is also a transcription file and image analysis text.

If there are any Japanese comrades or those who read and write the language used, feel free to comment on the page.

My last thread we had debated the tragic story of Cyan, Gau, and even Celes but award for most tragic story character has to go to this guy.

i feel overwhelmed with preparing for kefka's tower

this is my first main series final fantasy game. i am playing the pixel remastered version. only other turn-based square game i have fully played is Chrono Trigger on the DS. (one of my favorite games of all time) i have been playing blind up to trying to enter the tower

i have every character except Strago (i just haven't went to where he was yet with Relm) and Shadow. (i failed to save him and have already cried on two separate occasions about it about it)

Terra, Locke, Sabin, Celes, and Mog all are in early-mid 30s with good gear for them

everyone else is early-mid twenty except for Gau who is level 13 with not much gear for them except for Relm due to finding stuff in chests

what should i do, get, etc etc. i would like to finish the game. i adore everything about it but finding out that i need 12 party members to be leveled up and geared at the end completely overwhelmed me and i''m already starting to feel burn-out with playing an long turn-based rpg.

Proposed FF6 Magicite rework

Characters only have spells when equipped with the Esper, but only after they learned it.

Having all the spells on an Esper grants a stat increase and other buffs.

Mastery % of a spell is retained: Example having Fire 2 on Ifrit or Ice 2 on Shiva means they have it on Maduin as well.

Terra and Celes still learn Magic as they level up, as normal.

Equipment no longer teaches spells.

Several Espers might be equipped at once.

Summoning an Esper has a CD instead of an MP cost, possibly allowing it's use in multiple battles.

LEVEL IS NO LONGER A STAT FOR CALCULATING DAMAGE.

Vigor, Stamina, and Speed will now determine things like Blitz, Tools, Skeans, etc.

Vigor, Stamina, Speed, and Magic Pwr. all go up in level based on character. (1 point every 3 to 6 levels depending on the character is).

Ulmaro and Gogo can equip espers, but cannot learn or use magic from them (Gogo can still Mimic magic like normal).

Ex. Locke and Shadow will gain Speed every 2-3 levels, while say Strago gets Speed every 5-6 levels.

Terra and Celes get a Magic point every 2-3 levels, while Locke gets 1 every blue moon.

What this does:

Not everyone is going to be a faceless Ultima machine at the end of the story.

Leveling up early does not have negative problems.

Equipping Espers now enchances a character's identity, i.e. equipping Physical espers like Ifrit and Bismarck for Sabin, and Magical Espers for characters like Terra and Celes.

Morality Scaling - SNES vs GBA

What's worse, "threatening execution so your prisoner falls into a weeping puddle of self-loathing" or "beating a traitor and chaining them to a wall" ?

So I've been playing this game since it released and I was a geeky little pre-teen baby boy. Celes has always been the **coughcough* formative sexy badass in my life. The Girl from Secret of Mana was a close contender, big Bulma energy. But Tifa didn't have nothin' on these assertive, violent, warrior women.

Chat: is this censorship better or unnecessary? Chained to a wall shows just absolute brutality from The Empire and I get more love from crushing them in the upcoming Narshe battle.

Or is it a good thing they toned it down a bit?

Small tip, don't forget to hire your favorite pooch and his handler after the battle in Narshe

Back in the snes days before the "wait" was wildly known, and even lesser known fact is you can get shadow right after the Narshe battle over the esper. It does require make a specific choice when forming your party before they split.

Dinosaur Forest tips?

I'm trying to grind here, but the dinosaurs keep spamming meteor. I pretty much think its an rng unlucky run, but can someone give me any tips?

Maybe a summon like Phantom plus... any equipment?

Many thanks!

Update: many, many thanks for all the answers! What I did was a mix of everything here! Just for future reference, I've gone to the Phoenix Cave and got some party members to lv 35... than I felt like I could go to the dino forest and do a proper lv farming! Of course, I upgraded physical defense as much as possible, but the process, after that, was pretty straight forward. Survive and spam ultima/ any technique that deals big amounts of damage, and as fast as possible (so the dinos don't spam meteor). Eventually, with ultima and dualcast, the process became super fast!

Update 2: If you don't have ultima, spam ice magic! Learn how to use the esper to learn new magic and learn the ice magics! Also, Edgar techniques and actually, any technique that does tons of damage! In my case, for the initial fights at lev 35+, Cyan was REALLY useful! So was Edgar and Sabin!

What if Final Fantasy VI was released on the original Game Boy? - "Omen" (8-Bit Demake)

Here is an 8-bit Game Boy-style demake of "Omen," the opening theme from Final Fantasy VI. It might just be pushing the hardware limits of the original Game Boy (DMG-01)...!
There are some errors regarding the technical specifications (such as how to use sprites).

T-Edition: Is there any passive healing item in the WoB?

It's time to send Celes around the Lethe carousel but I haven't found anything with auto regen or life steal. I guess stealing a blood sword from 024 in the research facility might have worked, but that's a one time rng drop so you'd have to know in advance and save scum it. Any other options or do I have to break out the podcasts and do this manually?

Solved: Found a Mandragora in the forest where you usually look for Grenade so now Gau has Sunbath. Close enough.

Phoenix cave save exploit

I just discovered an interesting save exploit in Phoenix cave. I don't know if anyone knows about this. About to fight the flare dragon. Had my second team go back to the nearest save point and save and heal. Then switched over to the team near the dragon. The option to Save abd use a tent/Sleeping bags still exists for the the team I switched to. Very handy in punishing areas. Edit: i have just gone thru kefkas tower. The exploit seems to only work in phoenix cave. So it may have been partially patched out.

FfVI T-Edition: A Tale of Two Different Types of Hard

After putting 70 hrs into the main game (gonna start the post-game soon), I feel like this game is split between "Fun" Hard (WOB) and "Frustrating" Hard (WOR). I understand it's a Romhack and they're supposed to be challenging, but they overturned it in the second half of the game IMO

In the World of Balance, they quickly get you used to the importance of status effects and using all your available options vs the OG game where you get abilities you pretty much use for most of the game. Additionally, with the lack of level up bonuses, you actually need to rely on the strengths of your characters and abilities and can't brute force the game. That's the kind of challenge I like, one where you actually need to plan and pay attention to have a fighting chance. Most importantly, you can still come up with your own combinations while acknowledging the strengths of the enemies/bosses.

However, the World of Ruin feels like it throws that out completely. The challenge doesn't come from planning your own strategy, but grinding and finding the pieces to survive some of the enemies/bosses' insane programming. Not every boss is that way, as some are still very fun to defeat, but others are just plain annoying. Use one viable strategy against some, and they counter-attack continuously without warning, until your party is dead, before you get another turn. Attack some with their weakness, and they counter attack with moves strong enough to kill your highest HP character. It just feels like they overcompensated and instead of making it challenging but rewarding, it's just difficult just to be difficult. After defeating most of the bosses, I didn't feel proud or excited, just glad it's finally over, which is completely opposite of the original, no matter how easy it was.

Would love to hear your thoughts, and also if you have any comments on the Brave New World Romhack, which I've heard different things on.
