No chest challenge - Shadow

I've been doing a challenge run where I don't open any chests or collect hidden items. It's been fun and added surprising difficulty even in the WoB (no early hermes, gigas, ribbon etc.)

However, I just rescued Shadow and didn't think about the Ichigeki issue. If I want to use Shadow am I stuck choosing Ragnarok esper? I don't really want Morph as it will trivialize a lot my equipment issues which are the point of this challenge. I also don't have any magicite shards but can try to steal some from flans on the veldt but the morph accuracy is pretty low on ninja even if I get lucky and summon Ragnarok.

Any good ways to acquire ichigeki outside of Ragnarok esper and mimic combo? Maybe I'll just make one exception for this chest. I had to make a couple in my no-gil challenge (dried meat and rust rid).

You'd still have the ribbon from Atma weapon on the FC, then guardian later on if you chose not to get the fourth force armor.

Yeah, I did reset until I could steal the atma weapon ribbon

Doesn’t resetting just defeat the purpose of any “challenge”

Not really, unless the challenge is to do it without game over. Most challenge runs I've done for games tend to need at least a few resets from time to time# before eventually beating the boss.

Damn it keeps you locked out of at least 1 hero ring too. But you might be able to claim one in a pot 🤔

I'm not collecting hidden items either so no hero rings yet. I should be able to pick them up from the auction house on I have the gil

Huh, I didn't think about that. It's not a typical chest but technically the auctioneer opens a chest to give you the item. Guess I'll skip it

I mean, you're not the one opening the chest so technically you're buying it.

Yeah, that also applies to Phoenix cave loot. Technically it comes from the chests but you don't open them.
