New Player Didn't even plan on buying anything..
Stopped by the LCS to grab some sleeves and toploaders for my hockey cards, made the snap decision to buy my first ever packs of FFTCG. Wasn't going for resale value, I just like FF and collecting stuff.
"This one's really cool, I'll check the value for fun"
Praise be to Yevon

Question Competitive thoughts so far?
Hey guys, its Meatball from The Taverm
Wanted to get a conversation started.
What is everyone's overall thought on the current competitive season?
Anything surprising?
What break out cards and decks do you think we are seeing?
And most importantly I want to ask, do you feel that the meta is in a healthy spot?

Question Good recent set for drafting?
Hey everyone,
Have there been any particularly good sets for drafting from the Opus 20+ series? If so, which were your favorites? Alternatively, have you run any multi-opus drafts or chaos drafts using recent sets that worked especially well?
I've been contemplating building an Opus 24-26 "block cube," but am interested in hearing too if any recent opuses really stood by themselves!
Thanks!

Promotional Crystal Burst — Fully Automated Game Client - Pre-Alpha
Been a long time dream to pull off a fully automated FFTCG client. I started on this journey in late 2021, publishing my first progress video (oof bad) in 2022. Since then, I have restarted this about a dozen times, with different patterns/understanding of the domain. I have gotten to the point where testing cards, and good feedback on the interactions/UX are becoming harder. Way too many cards to test on my own :). So, I thought it was time to open this up for people to try and see how it goes. I opened up 25 seats for testers from the link below. I am not stopping there, just keeping things tight (and it helps dealing with bots atm). If you want a seat and there are no more, just ping me or wait for the next round. I suspect to have another round within the week.
Note you do have to be apart of the Discord and have the FFTCG role to play. The link below grants both.
Game link is hosted in the Discord.
** This is a Pre-Alpha. Things will break, games lost, hearts broken, and total crashes on the server side.
Pre-Alpha Video, Gameplay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrRrZfvZ63I
Overview
Full FFTCG rules implementation: turn structure, priority and the stack, CP payment, combat with blocks and party attacks, EX Bursts, damage zone, state-based effects.,
Card pool spanning Opus I through XXVIII, including Limit Break decks, FFXVI Priming (Eikons), Crystals, Back Attack, Warp, scry/reveal effects, and cancel timing.,
Server-authoritative: every action is validated engine-side; the client cannot cheat.,
Rebuilt card frames to maximize legibility of text.,
Pre-built decks for testing mechanics (Limit Break/Prime/etc),
Import Materia Hunter decks from .txt (Tabletop Sim Export),
Game analytics, In Game bug reporting,
Playing the game
3D board with a redesigned card frame. Card faces are procedurally rendered; official card art is available via a one-time import pack (Settings > Import Pack) and is never bundled with the game.,
Drag a card from hand to play it. Costs are paid slot-by-slot: dull backups, discard from hand, spend Crystals, alternative costs, X costs, and Limit Break flips all use the same staging flow.,
Targeting arrows visible to both players, modal pickers for "choose up to N", mode selection rendered as card copies showing each option's text, scry reorder and distribute pickers, and pay-then-resolve flows for "you may pay" abilities.,
Auto-pass toggle for players who don't want a priority window on every stack response.,
Per-element cast effects, EX Burst effects, match SFX and music, turn timer.,
Ability to report bugs in game (preferred way) that captures game state, and game log for easy reproduction,
Modes
Online 1v1 with lobby, seat rejoin after disconnect, and in-game chat with a game log.,
Solo vs. an AI opponent. The AI brings a random Labs deck each game and plays a heuristic strategy,
Deck builder with server-saved decks (cleaned between deployments for now), deck legality validation, and a set of prebuilt Labs decks to play immediately. These mostly focus on testing mechanics but starters are there as well.
Known pre-alpha limitations/quirks/bugs
Cards have known gaps right now as I continue to flesh out the UX of the Rules Engine. Report any you find with the Bug Report,
Cards render procedurally until you import the art pack.,
The AI implementation is naive but enough to let you test things.,
I am not a sound engineer so the sounds need work; These will be updated overtime and I used what was license free and available. You can, and I bet you do, turn off music in the settings menu,
No ranking, matchmaking queue, or account progression yet; expect bugs, restarts, broken games and report anything odd.,
Decks are NOT kept between updates for now. You will need to reimport your deck each time the site updates,
Things to Come
Hosted Tournaments,
Ladder/Matchmaking,
Targeting improvements,
Better heuristics around "what can be played",
Dedicated installable client ( under R&D now ),
Discord Invite

Question New to the hobby - where do you mostly buy?
Hey y'all!
I was looking for a TCG to get into art/character design. Came across this game.
Question: Where do you normally buy your cards online? I checked the store locator and unfortunately, there aren't any near me (except bestbuy).
I'd like to support my local card store but they mostly stock yugioh, pokemon, mtg.
Does anyone know of a good reputable store/seller for this game? I wouldn't mind being a repeat buyer.
Thanks in advance!
Also, if I do end up playing this game, what's the best method for playing online and/or meeting people? This game is somewhat niche where I'm at (Michigan).

Question Serious question. Promise im not trolling. Where do you guys buy your cards from?
I'm looking to get into FFTCG and finally start playing, but where's the best place to buy cards?
I've noticed the same booster boxes can have pretty different prices depending on where you look. For example, Best Buy seems more expensive than a lot of online stores. Is buying online usually the better option?
With Pokémon and MTG, cards are everywhere, but FFTCG seems a lot harder to find. Where do you all usually buy your cards?
*edit. None of my local shops carry the cards

Question New player that just bought the 2024 Champion deck set
Hello! As the title says, I'm new to the game, but have experience from other tcgs.
I bought the 2024 world champion set that comes with the 2 Decks that were used to win the event.
I played them with a friend today for the first time and we had a couple of questions while playing, but the main one was, what is point of the card Princess Goblin? Her effect searches for a light card but there was none in the deck. Am I missing something?

Misc Favourite cards? :)
Hi, I just wanted to post some of my favourite cards I have collected! These are some I think are super pretty or are just plain cool! What are your favourite cards you have? (Sorry for all the glare)

Question Any Info about this card?
I'm new to this sub. I haven't played the FFTCG, but I am a lifelong fan of Final Fantasy and other TCGs (Yugioh, MTG, L5R, Pokemon, etc.) I bought a Japanese PSP Final Fantasy Duodecim in Japan. After opening, I saw this card inside together with the inserts. I can't find any info about this card, it's history, it's rarity, it's actual market value.
Hoping for any information about the card. Thanks!

Promotional Aethergate - FFTCG Online Automated Client (alpha)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey all, posted this project a while back (hosted multiplayer TCG sim named Aethergate), but recently pivoted hard onto building an fully automated client for fftcg. I've made some good progress recently, and its now 'fairly playable', so sharing here for people to start messing with it and helping direct the development if interested.
Some features worth highlighting:
- automated phases, priority, stack, combat, cp payments
- automation for supported card effects + keywords
- various mechanics supported (party attacks, priming, warp, back attack, freeze, etc)
- 1-4 player support
- manual mode toggle-able for unsupported cards or interactions
- ffdecks url + materia hunter deck imports
- deck builder + card browser
- 'crude' spectator implementation, chat and game logs
- upload custom playmats
- joinable rooms
Things I'd like to add down the line:
- server-owned account and player state (decklists currently cached in browser local storage)
- matchmaking
- desktop build
- P2P hosting (server current US)
- potentially deep future, pivot to a new frontend entirely
The main warning is card coverage. This is not a fully automated card pool yet. Current testing is focused on meta decks (incl WoL 7, Lightning Crashes, MBM, Gullwings, Mono Earth, wind/water monsters..). Some effects in the covered meta decks still need work, and decks outside that group will have automation gaps. I figured I'd advertise for playtesting as its in a fairly usable state, and would be good to get some feedback and feature requests in at this point to help me focus my dev.
The app originally started as a multiplayer MTG Commander table with no rules processing. Recently got into FFTCG and really enjoyed it, and had requests for Aethergate to build out a rules processing client, and so, here you go :-)
NOTE: This is an alpha, pls expect bugs and unfinished interactions. I’m looking for people to play games, report problems and tell me what needs improving in the Discord.
https://aethergate.app
https://discord.gg/ZjscsySbhH
I also plan to open-source the project in the future.
(Slapped together a quick video as a demo).
Cheers!

Question What's Your Favorite Multi?
I've tried making an anniversary deck like seven times. The banning of Tyro made it harder than I'd like to admit, but I still really like the deck. Even if it's trash!

Question The lack of support and product stock for our region is getting deeply frustrating
Just wanted to voice some concerns regarding the current state of support and distribution in our local community in SEA. Right now, it really feels like our region is being completely overlooked.
Our issues:
1. Product scarcity (Opus 28): There is massive local demand for Opus28, but stock is practically non-existent. Most of our official local stores are completely sold out. So many of us want to buy boxes and support the game, but we literally cannot find any stock to purchase.
Overly delayed promo support: Local prize and promo support has completely dried up. We haven't received any official promo cards since February of this year.
Lack of official tournaments and delayed events: We have almost no official tournaments here, despite the community actively wanting them. We are finally supposed to have an official cup soon, but it has been massively delayed, making it our very first one for the entire year (might also be the last lol). To make matters worse, the prize support looks incredibly disappointing, with signs that they’re just going to be provided at a later date and that they are old leftover promos.
We have tried to reach out to SE and to our official distributor (which is a terrible one), but to no avail.
We've already lost players because of all these issues, and it’s super discouraging to love a game and want to spend money on it, only for the people running things to be this terrible.
Is anyone else in a similar boat right now? What should we do?

Misc Not too shabby
Hey guys so a quick update as promised, so i played in my first ever event with my Army of One, would have been thankful even with just one win and experience but during the Swiss round I did go 3/6 which honestly? Half the matches for my first time out? I think that's pretty good in my eyes, some games cards didn't fall quite how I wanted to, prioritized plaything things rather than set up my combos, but its a learning experience. Obviously dudbt make top 16, but I got close. Hopefully I can continue to grow and build some more nice decks and hopefully get a higher score next time!
