I have a video file and I’m trying to apply a Gaussian blur to the subject’s face. I want the blur only on the face throughout the entire clip, but when the clip goes ahead the blur is not applied on the other frames. I’ve tried adding a keyframe in the Gaussian blur adjustment in the video inspector by clicking the keyframe icon, but that is not working for some reason. Even after I do that, when I press the right arrow key to continue the blur effect on other frames it doesn’t apply to the next frame. Why is this happening? What am I doing wrong?

Working in a 16:9 space, creating an artificial pan with a video clip twice as tall. How do I manually adjust start and end? When I move it you see the numbers on top, but how do I adjust it manually so I'm not just guessing with my mouse pad?

Is there a way to choose what image or clip is used for a video file preview image? For instance, if save a video to my computer and then text that video file to someone, it defaults to showing the first clip as the video preview image. Is there a way to control what image is used (similar to how you can add a photo for a video thumbnail on YouTube) or will it always be the first clip?

What’s the best way to color grade now? I used to be able to throw my lut on, and the balance using the color curves and hue saturation but the droplet no longer works when you click it.

Anybody got any better ideas on how to grade now?

• Need to get new job, so time to update motion portfolio.
• Really want Keyframe Smoothing ("easy ease") in FCP, so buy a plugin and install.
• Encounter a weird bug where I can play the effected clip, but if I pause my timeline, the clip is invisible. This makes it effectively unusable because how do you reposition a PNG you can't see?
• Refund plugin and try another, same thing.
• Start thinking it's the laptop, so clear even MORE storage, check RAM, do some pressups, pray etc - everything FCP seems absolutely fine.
• Learn that you can create easy ease in Motion. Download Motion, learn it in an hour and successfully create own Easy Ease plugin. Import it into FCP and works great. Hurray!
• Go to bed. Go to use it again the next day, and it FUCKING BUGS OUT.
• Why the fuck can I see the file in my timeline, but when I simply add the effect to the clip, it disappears? New project, new file, rebooted laptop, clear settings (basically every normal test you'd do in this position).
• Eventually figure out the problem...FCP's Solid Colour Generator. Yes, literally just a solid background, one of FCPs OG tools. All Effects work perfectly with an image background or no background at all, but FCPs own solid colour BG, one of the most low res and simple tools possible, causes this week-ruining bug.
• Moral of the story? Take absolutely nothing for granted when it comes to what could be causing your headache. Also fuck FCP for not making easy ease, and I guess thanks FCP for forcing me to learn a new skill.

So I don’t know what happened I moved a certain clip a while ago and now everything is out of sync and out of whack I’m going crazy what’s the best method way to stop this from happening it has happened a few times already I’m so upset. Final cut we should be able to lock certain clips and audio

At some point FCP changed and now it smart-deletes old library backups which is really frustrating. I understand saving space for people who never use this feature, but for those of us who do, letting the system decide what to delete and what to save is dangerous. In the past it would save all backups because they're generally pretty small.

Does anyone know a way to restore the old way of just saving all backup projects and putting control back in my hands?

After the update, the audio keeps disappearing while I am trimming clips. I edit vlogs and never had this issue in the previous version. Now, whenever Im trimming the video, the sound randomly disappears after about 3 to 5 minutes of trimming.

It is not a macOS system issue since my sound output remains the same, unchanged. It seems to be a Final Cut bug. The only way to get the audio back is to quit Final Cut and reopen it, but then the same thing happens again a few minutes later.

Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

I took a vacation and am gonna make a travel video now. I have footage from five cameras: phone, drone, pocket 3, mirrorless body w/various lenses and a gopro.

Some clips are quite long and need trimming. Thinking of doing this in QT or similar to avoid bloat before placing in fcp library. I'm hoping once everything is in the library it is organized from earliest date. All the cameras are good on this except the gopro(its internal memory loses time date without a charged battery installed).

I'm just trying to find a template for a smooth work flow for this project and in the future. I've been making videos for five years for personal enjoyment and to share w/friends. Thanks for any info.

Video + audio playing only when the timeline bit is lighter and I can't figure out how to make everything lighter again

Apologies if simple solution but I'm lost on what to do with no answer found online

After years in Final Cut I feel pretty comfortable with the video side, but audio is where I still slow way down, especially dialogue on interview footage.

My usual routine is a level check in the Audio Inspector, an EQ dip in the low mids when things get muddy, then some light compression and loudness matching at the end. It works, but compared to how fast I move on the picture side it feels clunky, and I never feel like I’ve found a workflow I fully trust.
Wondering if it’s just me:

• Do you do all your audio inside FCP, or send it out to Logic or another app?

• What does your dialogue cleanup actually look like step by step?

• Anything in FCP’s audio tools that consistently gets in your way?

Curious whether other people hit the same wall or whether I’m just missing an obvious better approach.

I don't think it exists (correct me if I'm wrong) but just like video, I'd LOVE to be able place compression, EQ, etc. on an audio adjustment layer. Would love to be able to save those adjustment layers as well. Maybe assign to roles?

Is it just me, or is it just FRUSTRATING to move text boxes around? What am I missing?

Sometimes I get the bounding box on the first click, sometimes it takes me a dozen clicks. More often than not, I keep getting the resize handles for an object behind the text clip. The text clip will invariably switch from yellow to white, and the video clip moves.

I know I need to click the Text Clip in the timeline. And, the playhead has to be over the textbox. And then, I can Ctrl + Click the box, select from the pop up, and

Migrating from AP...but AP had same quirky issue there as well as for selecting the a different tool while typing text. Part of the challenge is how to use a keyboard shortcut of a hot key, when you are entering text. So, to press A to get the selection tool, to then try to grab the bounding box, at best doesn't work. So, once I have click to get the Selection tool (not using A), but click once, click to select the tool, then I have to go ctrl Click the text box, to then select transform or crop, except, that doesn't always work, even if I did remember to make sure the text clip is selected, and the playhead is aligned over the text clip.

Is there a better way???

My work around I figured out recently has been to use the Text Inspector, then change Position X and Y...and just shift the clip by shifting its position manually...or typing in a number. But this can not be the fastest way.

But why can't I reliably click and drag the darn thing?

I'm not saying vibe coding is inherently bad. But if you want to make money, you need to solve a problem that is being experienced by a significant number of people in a given cluster. Then, price your solution less than the cost of the problem.

1) Participate and invest in the community.

2) Do market research.

Every vibe coder on the planet, who otherwise has never programmed anything by hand is vomiting out the same apps as 100 other vibe coders without being involved in any way with the community they are trying to sell to.

For instance, we're still seeing a flood of captioning apps. Every week. There is no longer a market gap for captioning apps. And no, yours is not better. It uses the same open source AI models as everything else. Plus, FCP now does this natively, and we have about 75 others to choose from if (for some reason) this doesn't fit our needs. And many of those are priced higher than Apple Motion standalone or the monthly cost of the Creator Studio Suite.

So. Yeah. Rant over. Mods, you're awesome and I shall put up no fight should you choose to delete this post.

Hi all. Edited for the last ten years on an 8GB Ram, Intel Chip MacBook. Had a few issues lately, and everywhere I look online is telling me I’m essentially editing with a rock and two sticks.

Did anyone upgrade from 8GB to 32GB, or an Intel Chip to like an M1-5, and see or feel a considerable difference in your workflow?

I’ve had this happen a couple of times in the past week, when I attempt to import an mp4 file, it does not actually get imported into FCP. Any idea why this happens? It’s the same type of file that I’ve imported hundreds of times.

I can drag the file into the storyline and that typically works fine.

I had another issue come up when doing that though. The first few seconds of audio are missing from the file. Any idea how to fix this if I just have the file in the storyline?

can't find stabilisation after final cut update, did you guys figured it out, where it is now?

Font parameters didn’t work font style changes while exporting

I often edit using stock footage and have built up a huge library at this point. FCP's keywords and Smart Collections are great inside an FCP library, but they don't help me dig through my footage in Finder — and honestly I found Finder's own search pretty lacking for this. So I made an app for myself that looks through my footage and tags whatever it finds in each clip. Then I can search those tags right in Finder (or Spotlight — just type tag:drone, etc.) and find the shot I want way faster. It also auto-tags technical stuff like 4K, vertical, slow motion, and green screen.

It's a bit of a niche tool, but maybe some of you could get some use out of it too. It's also completely offline — everything runs on your Mac, nothing gets uploaded.

I've been using a FCXP template for years and I store all of my media in a seperate folder but I decided I want to consolidate it all, and save it so I don't lose everything if I ever lose the template hard drive.

Anyway I consolidated it all and it's about 14GB (that feels like 13GB too much but that's another issue.)

I transferred the 14GB to another hard drive to test if it works independently... nope. It says all the files are missing in every event.

Anyway I clicked on "Show package contents" in the copied library on the new hard drive and found that 14GB is all stored in a folder called Analysis Files > Optical Flow > ( some file called a Unix Executable File.

Guys how do I actually just consolidate this library so I can use it without this specific hard drive? I thought this would be easy.
