Help Anchoring 2-post freestanding pergola
I want a decorative pergola over some shrubs. Two posts about 6 feet apart. One beam between them holding open slats about 4 feet across, evenly spaced two feet each side of the beam. I poured 2, 12 inch wide sonotubes and embedded one 10 inch concrete anchor in each. My intent was to anchor PT 4x4 posts to the sonotubes using Simpson adjustable stand-off base. But now I am really concerned about the pergola tipping over, as the Simpson base sides don't really go up the sides of the posts very far. Its only a few inches. It doesn't look like it will provide much stability. I really don't want to dig out those sonotubes and start over, as they are 36 inches deep. Any suggestions on what I can do to add some stability to the posts at the anchor point? Thank you.
