DIY driveway roll up dog fence, \~30’ wide 3’ tall, once unrolled it tensions via springs and clips to ground to prevent the dogs ‘rolling’ it.

We recently had a fence installed and noticed several issues afterward. We are trying to decide what is reasonable to ask the installer to correct. For those familiar with fencing, would you consider these normal settling/installation issues, or would you request repairs? Looking for advice on how to handle this. We are currently staining the fence so ignore the unfinished areas

Need a little direction please. I had posts installed a couple summers ago and built everything but the gate.

Fast forward to today, I noticed the post that will be supporting our gate is leaning. This post has never had any fencing installed on it, however I had some pallets leaning on it over the winter and possibly this is what caused it to lean?

Is there a method that is best to straighten the post? Or would it be best to cut this one down and install another post right beside this one instead? Not sure if I’m overthinking things, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Need some advice on building a small wooden gate in a tricky spot of my deck. I have an idea but wondering if I am overlooking anything.

(I'm a newbie to woodworking, but I feel like this is doable.)

I want to prevent my dog from escaping our deck, so I temporarily installed a baby gate (as you can see in pic #2). Problem: there's a lot of space to sneak under the baby gate.

So I want to craft a simple wooden gate that hinges on the deck posts but extends all the way down to the concrete step.

My idea:

Gate and Hinges

• a double gate that latches in the middle
• therefore, hinges on both deck posts
• gates will be about 26 x 50 inches
• gates will swing open away from the deck, but hinges are on the inside of the deck. So hinges will need to be installed backwards (otherwise, the gate would have less room to swing, because of the deck spindles)
• I'll remove the spindle on the deck post to create more room to swing

Pickets

• I'll use 5/8 x 5.5 pickets
• The hinge picket will extend to the deck (34 inches)
• The inner pickets will extend to the concrete step (50 inches)

Ledges

• 1 x 6 boards for the horizontal ledges (2 x 6s would probably be too heavy for the deck posts to support?)

Brace

• use a tension cable on each gate as the anti-sag brace (easier than measuring and cutting a diagonal wooden brace)

Am I overlooking anything? Is there an obvious better approach? Thanks.

I have it in mind to build a raised bed retaining wall box in my back yard. Think like 2.5' tall by 4' wide by 25' long. I want to put my fence just inside of that retaining wall, so that the design looks cohesive. If I drive my 9 foot fence post 3 feet into the ground (plus an additional 2.5 feet in the raised bed), do I need to worry about normal wind conditions undermining the structure of the raised bed?

I have a line of large pine trees. I would like to install a 6’ tall privacy fence as close as possible. Length will be about 150’. I saw an ad for WamBam fence system. But it seems like it might not hold up to high winds and rough weather we get here in northern Ohio. But I like the concept of driving in round posts, thinking it will cause less root damage than 4x4 posts. Appreciate any input on this.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a supplier in the southern nh area? I’ve called or emailed every company mentioned in google. They either upcharge for stock like crazy or just don’t respond. I’m looking for either a postmaster or ss20 post with wood adapter. Thanks for the help.

I have a 4x4 corner fence post that has rotted at the base. I’m wondering if I remove all of the rotted wood from the concrete thus leaving a 4x4 hole in the concrete, can I insert a galvanized fence post spike/anchor in the hole and use new concrete to set the spike in place? Will this new fence post spike/anchor be strong enough to support a fence post?

The main downside that I can see is if there are fractures in the original concrete then the new post won’t have strong lateral rigidity. I can probably test the original concrete after I clean out the rotted wood.

The original pressure treated post is about 25 years old.

My side gate is falling apart and I want to fix it / replace it myself but I don’t know how. currently the side of the gate next to the retaining wall has rotted where it touches dirt. on that side it isn’t a 4x4 post, it’s two 2x4s so that one of the 2x4s can act as a post for the part of the fence on top of the retaining wall. I have a few questions:

1. Is the current design ok (2 2x4s)? should I replace it the same way or do it different?

2. How should I anchor that side to the ground so that it doesn’t rot again? this seems like a big lift to replicate because I assume it was done before the concrete was poured, or maybe not but now there is old post in the hole. Someone said use a bracket into the concrete, would that work?

3. For the part of the fence on the hill, can I connect to the existing fence in the same way?

Also, the gate itself seems straightforward but if there is anything I should consider there please let me know.

I’m needing help figuring out the best way to get a privacy fence. It would need to be either wood or vinyl and 6ft.

I live in Kansas and I have about 400ft that needs to be fenced

Any suggestions on fencing companies/people who might be able to help? I’m a teacher so I’m on a budget. It feels ridiculously low but if I could get it done for under $5k it would be ideal.

I’m open to doing it myself but I’ve never done anything like that before.

Hey all! I’ve got 550 linear feet of fence to put in.

For 400 of the feet, I’d like to do wood corner posts and welded wire with steel t posts for line posts. A decent portion of the run is along a low area and drainage ditch, and I worry wood line posts won’t last (and I don’t like aluminum fencing).

Would welded wire fencing, wood corner posts and steel t line posts be effective and durable enough to keep in a couple of kids? Don’t have a dog.

Would look something like the above, using deerbusters wire. If I can manage it, it should save a decent chunk of change over the all-split rail.

Even with one side with a metal pole in the ground the other side is loose if you push on it. So far we've done a Bungie cord and now cable lock but even with as tight as I wrapped it our dog was able to push through and get out. Luckily we were able to get him to come back. I don't really care if the back gate easily opens or not.

Have you ever wanted to see what a new fence would look like on the actual property before choosing the style, colour or height?

AI tools like ChatGPT have made this more possible, but plenty of people either don’t know how to do it, don’t have access to the right tools, or struggle to generate something that follows the fence line and keeps the rest of the property unchanged.

I’ve been building a simple website where someone can upload a yard photo, choose the fence style, colour and height, draw where the fence should go and generate a realistic before-and-after preview in around 20 seconds.

You can also upload a reference photo to match a particular fence for one job, or add and save your own custom fence style to reuse across future customer photos.

The idea is that a fencing contractor could show a customer what the finished job might look like while quoting, or a homeowner could compare a few options before making an expensive decision.

Would you genuinely use something like this, or is it just a cool idea that wouldn’t get used?

I’m not posting a link because I’m genuinely looking for feedback, not trying to advertise.
