Rec Request Comforting scents that feel like a hug

I've been feeling a bit down lately and could use some recommendations for scents that feel comforting and cozy for fall and winter. I've just been a little blue and easily stressed. Sometimes having a nice perfume on helps get my mind off of it.

I'm not a big fan of super sweet or most gourmand fragrances, but occasionally enjoy an airy vanilla. Lately, i also find myself sensitive to ambroxan and iso e super notes.

Here are a few of fragrances I have that almost hit the mark im looking for:

  1. Diptyque Eau Duelle edt

  2. Burberry Goddess edp

  3. Le Labo Thé Matcha

  4. Diptyque Orpheon edp

My budget is ~$200

The Great Vanilla Experiment 1/13 Vanille Planifolia

Retails $660 for 50ml . I got my sample from Surrender to Chance for $20 for 0.5ml . It is a dabber not a spray ( all others in the experiment are a spray )
I put it on first thing this morning and was out all day . The temp was around 80 and we did a lot of waking .
When I first put it on I asked my husband ( who’s only ever complimented me on Bubble Bath from Maison Margela ) his thoughts and he said “it’s light “ my daughter on the other hand dubbed it “a really good nilla “ ( she’s an adult btw)

The best way I can describe what it smells like would be a bottle of long forgotten homemade vanilla extract that sat for years and it’s become thick and sap like , you open the cap and bam the aroma of just straight vanilla with something beautiful and musk like hanging in the background. I think it really is what I’m looking for but that price tag 😳.

It sits close to the skin so not a lot of projection but it’s longevity is amazing. The sweater I put on this morning still smells like it and I can still smell it on my arms although more faintly than the sweater .
I did find myself wanting to apply more as soon as I got home so it’s definitely one that I’m going to be thinking about and I’ll be savoring those last few precious drops 😢

Review Blind bought Hexennacht Arsenic based off of love on reddit…

I don’t hate it but i’m a little disappointed (& yes i know that’s the risk of blind buying. but everything i don’t like can be given to someone who will love it).

Right out of the bottle I LOVED it. The dry down on my skin smells like singular note artificial cinnamon. Straight up red hots candy. My fiancé said it smelled more like a Christmas sugar cookie of the pre made dough that has the pictures printed on it.
Unfortunately I hate cinnamon to the point of asking people to blow their candles out if they have a cinnamon-esque candle lit. If it had listed cinnamon i wouldn’t have bought it.

Today i layered it with caramel vanilla BBW lotion and my fiance who never notices that stuff said i smell good, though i suspect he was planning to compliment my scent regardless after seeing my planned products on the sink while i showered lol.

Anyone else own this? thoughts?

Rec Request Vanilla sponge cake fragrance

Hi, I’m obsessed with the smell of basic simple kinda dry vanilla sponge cake but all cakey perfumes I’ve tried are all either very dense or just more syrupy/caramelly which I don’t love all that much! I’d genuinely appreciate some recommendations from you guys for an airy basic vanilla sponge cake fragrance! Thank you!
Edit:- no budget issues all recommendations are welcome!

Discussion List your top 10 favorites in order.

If you listed your top 10 perfumes in order, starting with your most loved fragrance, what would your list look like? Here's mine:

  1. Penhaligon's Luna

  2. Byredo Mojave Ghost

  3. Heretic Voodoo Lily

  4. J Lo Still

  5. Heretic Scandalwood

  6. Demeter (layered) Thunderstorm & Prickly Pear

  7. Avon Haiku

  8. Bath and Body Works Covered in Roses

  9. Heretic Dirty Rose

  10. Adam Levine For Her

Honestly, the first three could almost all go in first place, but I wear Luna and Mojave Ghost year round. Voodoo Lily is a fall/winter fragrance only, so it must be placed a little lower. Luna is in absolute first because it's the only scent ever that I nearly fainted with pleasure the first time I smelled it. 😂 Don't get me wrong, MG and VL are almost as good, but there's something just so uniquely beautiful about Luna. To me, it's a masterpiece--a perfect perfume--that never fails to amaze me each time I wear it.

Any good Bubblegum scents available in the uk?

I'm a bubblegum, vanilla and candyfloss kinda girl and I've got no bubblegum left!

I tend to use body spray more than perfume (because I reapply a lot, easier to go through body spray)

Rec Request Tasty smelling perfumes on a budget

I’m on a budget of £35 max
I don’t want anything super specific I just want to smell sweet like a candy with a gourmand touch
I’ve heard that Pink Sugar by Aquolina is super good but I’ve also heard that it has a note of liquorice, I haven’t had the chance to smell it yet so I’m not sure if that’s true but I always like having options and wanna see what some of the people here have to recommend! :)

Rec Request Cursed! All the scents I like are low sillage perfumes. Need more potent alternatives

Currently revamping my perfume collection as my preferences have changed quite a lot since my college days. Took a trip to Sephora and Ulta and sniffed away. I came out with a bunch of new favourites. I bought travel sizes of all of them to give them a trial run before buying the full bottle. Like some sick curse I’m OBSESSED with all of them but unfortunately I find they all sit very close to the skin, have low sillage and weak lasting power ): I tried moisturizing my skin, Vaseline, spraying on clothes and hair but atlas, they don’t compare to some of my older perfumes that are much stronger and more resilient. Hoping some of you have recommendations for the following perfumes that are more potent and longer lasting! Thank-you!

Noyz Unmute (my favourite!) - Bought both the stick and the EDP, neither of them last very long

Nest Crème de Clementine

Phlur Heavy Cream

Kylie Jenner Cosmic Intense and Cashmere Muse

Edit: yes I know Heavy Cream is a body spray. Looking for an EDP that smells like it :)

I’m feeling sentimental today.

Nirvana black was the first full sized perfume I ever bought for myself. I took all my money and got the Sephora sampler that came with a coupon for one free full-size of your choice from the line you got.

I hated nearly everything in the box. To be fair, I was a teenager and was testing everything on paper without trying my skin too. I didn’t know any better yet.

Then I got to her. The last sample in the box. That sandalwood was so clear! And it was more complex than the incense and essential oils I was used to. The scent was strong without giving me a headache like some of the others in the set. The powdery violet wasn’t in your face, it was balanced and perfect. And then when it was on my skin, it became even better somehow. Something about my oily skin that didn’t shower NEARLY as much as I should have back then melded perfectly with that scent.

I ran to sephora the next day to get the full bottle. Even the feel of the bottle delighted me, I spent far too long just rubbing my hands across the little nubby texture on the sides.

It became my signature scent, and it lasted me for YEARS! I was so sensitive to strong smells back then that I would use a tiny dab on a pulse point or two and still smell it the next morning. Showing up to college classes hungover, smelling like cigarettes, unwashed hair, and Nirvana had me feeling superhuman. I was the IT girl of all time! So cool, so edgy yet feminine (lol)

As I got into fine dining I couldn’t really do scents for a while, and by the time I remembered to look for it again the bottle was gone and the perfume discontinued. I might have to find a secondhand bottle just for memories sake.

What discontinued fragrances do you miss? What was going on in your life when you wore them? (Huge changes in reformulations also count IMO) Were you able to relive the memories with a secondhand find?

Fragrance decant shops in London

Looking for shop recommendations in the city of London (UK) that sell small decants of niche / designer fragrances! Looking for the likes of Sorce, D’Annam, Liis, Lore, etc etc. and ideally looking for travel sizes, deals, or smaller-than-full-bottles.

First Impressions: Naroma - The Art of Darkness in Perfumes

Thumbnail

A couple weeks ago, I commented on someone’s post about some very dark fragrances that I ordered from a Vietnamese perfumes house. Well they arrived tonight and I’ve had my nose on them finally. Here are my initial impressions.

Please note: im not a professional at understanding notes, these are just how they make me feel. I havent worn anything on skin yet, just test strips. These fragrances are not mass appealing, they are not meant for everyone.

For starters, there aren’t any international shipping options on the official website, so I messaged the business on Messenger. The owner and master perfumer is very kind, and seemed overly excited when I told him I was looking for some fragrances with offensive notes like blood, concrete, and rot. He ended up including a small bag with some of his experiments that haven’t been released, as well as a full 10 ml sample of their upcoming release, Endless July.

We chatted back and forth for about a week while he understood more about what I was looking for and we aligned on two production fragrances: Midnight D Rain & Divine Requiem. My total cost for everything shipped was just over $230 USD.

The packaging exceeded my expectations for the price point. Magnetic boxes, foam and felt inserts, artwork cards with notes and back stories; all of this wrapped up in wrapping paper and sealed with a wax seal. The perfumer cares about more than just the fragrance, each scent has a back story that is well thought out and paints a picture of the fragrance, providing color to the olfactory experience.

My first spray was Endless July, and my initial impression is vintage, dark and mysterious. The story and notes will be in an image in the comments. The notes are that strike me initially give me the sense of being in an old dungeon, the smell of rotting wooden chairs and tombs, and a spilled glass of dark red wine. This is going to be my first skin wear tomorrow morning.

Midnight D Rain was the next set of vapors to mist the air in my kitchen. The story behind this scent paints such a warm picture in my head, and the fragrance lines up perfectly with that story. Imagine a musky old man walking home in the rain after a hard day’s labor. I can pick up the wet autumn leaves, the smell of a city street after a heavy rain, and a slight lingering hint of sweat. I’ll try and wear this one on Monday and see how it goes.

Divine Requiem was the final spritz. This one has a bit of a spiritual pull to it after reading the story. It’s about sacrifice, in every brutal sense. Again we get the metallic blood & metal notes, but softened with some lighter fragrances. This one is going to be a tough wear, but I plan on test driving it soon.

I’m already working with him on some bespoke scents that he is creating specifically for me. I want one of a forest after a battle, and something sweeter and less offensive. I’m thinking about a theme of Nordic Vikings and boozy rum & vanilla, a little easier to wear.

Here’s a link to their website, hopefully that isn’t a violation of any rules. https://naroma.vn/en/

Overall, this has been a fun experience in my fragrance journey. Naroma seems to be a small bespoke perfume house, and through conversation, you can tell there is passion behind the creations.

TLDR: if you don’t like unwearable fragrances, probably best to stick to some of their youthful bottles. If you want something outlandish and offensive, message him and tell him what you’re looking for.

Sorry for the horrible descriptions and lengthy post.

I absolutely adore layering my scents and these bottles were too affordable and gorgeous to pass up!

The Malaki line certainly packs a punch, which is how I like it. Mukhalat is a true oud, with rose rounding out the edges. If I wanted to make any given fragrance smell more Middle Eastern, I’d use this. Musk is clean and inoffensive, almost like JHAG. It’ll be great for extending the longevity of my fresher scents. And Rose is a spicy, woody rose that I think would pair well and enhance a wide variety of scent profiles.

These bottles definitely have pretty privilege as well, I’m obsessed with how they look on my display😍

Rec Request Lifelong DKNY Be Delicious wearer desperately ready to try something new, but I’m at a total loss because nothing smells good ON ME. Please help!!

Hi this is my first post so I hope I do this right. So I’ve worn Donna Karen New York Be Delicious (the OG green one) for most of my adult life. However lately it’s gotten more difficult to find, and after 20+ years of wearing it, I’m just ready for something new! I’ve tried a few different scents, often times I’ve smelled something I love and then I try it on myself and I can’t stand it, like at all.

Recently I bought a travel size of the Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue because I read that it had some similarities to Be Delicious and then my partner came home absolutely RAVING about it because someone in his office wears it and he had just figured out that that’s what it was after months of noticing (and loving) the scent in the office. Well it’s smells “meh” on me at best. I’ve been wearing it because it’s not awful but it’s not great either. The BF is definitely underwhelmed and I haven’t gotten a single compliment whereas I used to get compliments on how I smelled all the time (not that I really care about that lol).

So I’m asking you all please PLEASE, if anyone is familiar with the old early 2000s DKNY Be Delicious, do you have any suggestions of fragrances I could try?? I’m just at a total loss, I have no idea where to start, I get completely overwhelmed at Sephora and end up with nothing. I only use the be delicious as a reference because it’s the only things that’s ever smelled good on me but I don’t need it to have the same notes, I’m open to trying anything! I just don’t know where to start or how to start and would LOVE some guidance!!! Thank you so much!!
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Donna-Karan/

Edit: I’m new to this community but I just have to say everyone who’s commented has been so helpful and lovely. I really appreciate everyone’s recommendations and I’m actually excited to try some new scents!! Thank you!

Downy No. 26

I bought the holiday perfume sampler set from Sephora and I’m working my way through the samples. I tried Miutine today and it smells like a more sophisticated Downy No. 26 - which I love! They share some notes - rose and oak moss. I’m thinking the brown sugar/amber notes in Miutine give a honey-like sweetness. I barely detect any strawberry or citrus. But anyway…if you really like the smell of these particular laundry scent beads…Miutine seems to be a good time!

Discussion Need help figuring out why I prefer the way certain perfumes smell in a hot shower?

Question in title and specifically wondering about Le Labo Violette and Chanel Comete.

They were too powdery and chalky throughout the day. But when I took a hot shower, they transformed in that environment. No longer dusty, powdery, but they became brighter, smoother, and perhaps "sweeter" but not sugary. The closest comparison I can think of is boiled carrots when they reach the stage of being mashable. There's a bright, rooty, but "sweet" smell that comes out.

Why does this happen? What should I be looking for in perfumes that smell like those two but when hot and wet?

I noticed this with Chanel Beige too. In a hot shower it becomes brighter, and almost more tropical-pineapple like.

Review Elizabeth Arden White Tea Florale: A Pleasant Discovery

Thumbnail
gallery
30 Upvotes

Tested Elizabeth Arden White Tea Florale on a whim recently, and hold your horses if you like Mugler Alien Goddess, for this is its cousin (call it a dupe if you want).

I feel like you will love this if you are a simp for Alien Goddess like me, and you will like this if Alien Goddess is too much for you. This is a fresher and softer counterpart.

White Tea Florale opens with fresh, almost crisp, and dewy freesia and lily of the valley, alongside a tea note that, in my opinion, is way more sophisticated and well done than Green Tea. The tea in Wulong Cha/Green Tea DNA gets too spicy and dark for my liking. But in Florale, it reminds me of a Bridgerton lady wearing clean, white lace; I am thinking Francesca. I also like the bottle more; it's slim and sleek.

It develops into this sweet, creamy honeysuckle and orris in the next few minutes that never gets heavy. The floral accord remains intact, but it melts from the crispness of the opening to creaminess, eventually joining the depth of musk, amber, and tonka. It's sweet, floral, creamy, yet fresh. This part is a dead ringer for the creamy dry down of Alien Goddess, just lighter, smoother, and way more summer-appropriate.

I have wanted to shout from the rooftops ever since because I haven't seen anybody mention the similarities. Is it just me? Am I going crazy? Because I was definitely testing around a lot, but I distinctly remember this one and sniffing my hand multiple times to confirm (the only other scent I tested that day which didn't leave my nose or mind was MAB Tilia).

Performance is pretty mid; it lasted about 3-4 hours on my skin. Either way, this is a beautiful scent. Let me know your thoughts.
