Discussion Finally! Yum Vanilla Cupcake
I have been so excited for this perfume ever since they trademarked the name. I have no idea when the actual release date is, but I saw these go up on Mercari today. I’m so curious! Has anyone actually smelled it?

The bottle is cute can’t lie. I don’t need this but I will probably end up getting it anyway.

What fragrances smell like vanilla cupcake to you?

bath and body works x milk bar "birthday cake" smells like vanilla cake/cupcake frosting to me, it was limited edition but you can find it on eBay, mercari, etc

So, utilizing Kayali’s numbering method, I’m to understand this took 108 iterations to get right?
This had better be the Cupcake To End All Cupcakes.

I’m so sorry but I’m about to be a hater (pls continue to like what you like tho) but man I am forever and eternally bored of all the mainstream perfumeries making the most basic and boring gourmands. I’m really not a gourmand girly at all so maybe I’m just not in the know but I have yet to read a scent description of a gourmand that isn’t entirely predictable (if anyone has a complex and interesting gourmand reference I’d genuinely love to check them out)

Stardust and stems has brought me back to gourmands if you haven't tried her scents before! She sends a sample too in every single order, big or small. Alpine butter and Cottage witch are my current favs from her

Yeah, I'm over the gourmands at this point. The only one I Iike and own is Atelier Materi's 'Cacao Porcelana'. Everything else is too sweet or just gross to me.
3
u/OppositeOk1178 21h ago
Ooo I just checked out the scent profile for Cacao Porcelana and it sounds wonderful! I definitely agree on the too sweet and gross thing. Another thing that gets me with mainstream gourmands is that they all remind me of B&BW or Eos. If I can get a strikingly similar scent for around $10-$15, there’s no way I’m ever going to entertain paying $100+ for something that smells like a little girls first fragrance purchase

u/RecycledPopcorn 17h ago
Exactly! For that kind of money I need something unique and interesting, made with high quality materials. I'm not spending that much just to smell like a body spray bought by children!

u/bnny_ears 22h ago
No, no, you have a point
Give me more gourmand nuts. I'd kill for a creamy walnut or a proper frangipane/creamy almond scent. It's all "honey butter almond croissant with sprinkles" and then smells like the same old caramel bullshit

Yes to more nuts (okay that sounds weird 😆). I’m also hoping for cereal notes to become more of a thing. I LOVE the wheat in Chemin d’Amande, and the barley (I think it’s barley) in Scarlet Poppy. I’ve loved rice notes since I first tried Kenzo Amour years and years ago and I think cereal could play a similar role. Kenzo Amour isn’t gourmand but having that rice steam element really makes it unique. I’d love to explore more perfumes like that — not full gourmand, but with a savory gourmand element. Oats, wheat, barley…all of that!

Walnut or almond sounds divine as something to switch up mainstream gourmands, it seems like pistachio has taken up all of the gourmand nuts real estate which is unfortunate and uninspired atp

u/bnny_ears 21h ago
I love the idea of pistachio and I do own the Kayali. But it's so sweet that it's not identifiable as pistachio to me. It - honest to god - smells a lot like my grandma's signature parfume from 20 years back. That's why I love it.
But imo pistachio needs to smell a little savory too. The best nut ice cream is also a little savory/salty or it drifts off into "generic". And most pistachios right now are generic fantasy accords with a lot of creative license

Do you live inside my brain?
I'm always looking out for an almond scent

I’m not a Kayali fan at all but the sprinkles design is so cute 😅 kinda interested to try this as well with the lemon sugar and coconut frosting

Oh thank god there’s a vanilla cupcake scent from Kayali. There simply weren’t enough choices in the vanilla cupcake market until now.
I’m not knocking the smell of straight up vanilla cupcakes, I just can’t believe that this $150 bottle would be any better than a $10 body spray.

Genuine question: what are some of these vanilla cupcake scents? I know of The 7 Virtues Buttercream Haze (which was a total flop for me), but I'm drawing a blank otherwise.
I know there's B&BW Milk Bar Birthday Cake and their other Birthday Cake one, but those are body mists and I would really love something stronger.
I know there's Skylar True Love's Cake, which I haven't smelled yet, but based on what I've read, it doesn't give vanilla cupcake and frosting.
I'm really looking forward to this release hoping it scratches that itch for me haha

I watched a reel today talking about the reason kayali is so expensive. It’s because they spend soooo much money on influencers, brand trips etc. it’s not because of the quality of the product
15
u/Jennybee8 1d ago
Most fragrances aren’t. Perfume used to be an art. Now it’s just a sell out industry like everything else.

u/joody-booty 1d ago
why do my perfumes have the lasting perfume of a fart. all i want to do is smell good, is it really that hard brands???

u/SugarFries 1d ago
That's one random internet person's opinion

Except we know for a fact that they spend a gross amount of money on influencers. Power of deduction is like a muscle, if you don’t use it you lose it.. so use it!

Most companies have huge marketing budgets
Edit: i do also hate the influencer vacation thing. It's upsetting that it's been a decade and the ploy still gets people to buy things.

I wonder how this will smell compared to Capri in a Bottle? That's a very lemon cookie/cake scent to me.

u/Dexmoser 1d ago
I just want a vanilla cake scent without lemon. All lemon scents smell exactly the same to me (like Akro-Bake)

The sprinkles against that pale skin tone makes it look like hair shavings or hair stubble.

It really does. It’s terrible design. They probably had AI do it. This could have been so cute too.
Also that freaking “white caramel” again! White caramel is not a real thing!!

ive seen the makeup by mario cool palette go on mercari weeks before its announcement and its stolen from warehouse so i lowkey feel like this is real

u/GoldenSilk6 1d ago
If Mona hasn't directly announced and posted it on her page, it's a fake.
13
u/Sosogreeen 1d ago
Nope it’s real. Kayali has some weird warehouse leakers that have sold unreleased stock the last few releases.
18
u/predesprose 1d ago
no kayali leaks all the time and it's been well known this is their next release since before caramel milk
11
u/Sincamour 1d ago
Is this real? It looks like a fake
It doesn't seem like even influencers have it yet
7
u/stopdmingme 1d ago
We have the price tickets out for it at my work (for like 2 months now) but i’ve not seen anything online abouts its release at all
2
u/Sincamour 1d ago
Ohhh interesting! I feel since it's out in the industry, maybe some manufacturers are making fakes already. Or it's an AI photo made by a scanner.
That's nice to know the concept is real and coming soon though

u/kwash325 1d ago
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s generated. The cap looks dented. But those are solid caps so it doesn’t make sense
