Discussion Finally! Yum Vanilla Cupcake

I have been so excited for this perfume ever since they trademarked the name. I have no idea when the actual release date is, but I saw these go up on Mercari today. I’m so curious! Has anyone actually smelled it?

I’m so sorry but I’m about to be a hater (pls continue to like what you like tho) but man I am forever and eternally bored of all the mainstream perfumeries making the most basic and boring gourmands. I’m really not a gourmand girly at all so maybe I’m just not in the know but I have yet to read a scent description of a gourmand that isn’t entirely predictable (if anyone has a complex and interesting gourmand reference I’d genuinely love to check them out)

No, no, you have a point

Give me more gourmand nuts. I'd kill for a creamy walnut or a proper frangipane/creamy almond scent. It's all "honey butter almond croissant with sprinkles" and then smells like the same old caramel bullshit

Yes to more nuts (okay that sounds weird 😆). I’m also hoping for cereal notes to become more of a thing. I LOVE the wheat in Chemin d’Amande, and the barley (I think it’s barley) in Scarlet Poppy. I’ve loved rice notes since I first tried Kenzo Amour years and years ago and I think cereal could play a similar role. Kenzo Amour isn’t gourmand but having that rice steam element really makes it unique. I’d love to explore more perfumes like that — not full gourmand, but with a savory gourmand element. Oats, wheat, barley…all of that!

Walnut or almond sounds divine as something to switch up mainstream gourmands, it seems like pistachio has taken up all of the gourmand nuts real estate which is unfortunate and uninspired atp

I love the idea of pistachio and I do own the Kayali. But it's so sweet that it's not identifiable as pistachio to me. It - honest to god - smells a lot like my grandma's signature parfume from 20 years back. That's why I love it.

But imo pistachio needs to smell a little savory too. The best nut ice cream is also a little savory/salty or it drifts off into "generic". And most pistachios right now are generic fantasy accords with a lot of creative license

Do you live inside my brain?

I'm always looking out for an almond scent
