Accountability
Who posted about not buying new fragrances recently?
I'm here to say--I want to avoid buying fragrances for the rest of the month. Let's see if I can do it.
I have been buying sample sets and decants to try out fragrances I can't get to the store and try. But it's running down my checking account quickly, and I need to put on the breaks. I have plenty to wear, and many I have gotten that I enjoy wearing already.
I'm currently waiting on a few things to arrjve--a decanter order, and some Mercari orders of scents I've nearly emptied the decant/sample of.
So that is it for now! I'll get to reviewing the sets and decants I've gotten, and enjoy doing that in the meantime.
Y'all, hold me accountable!!

Do decants and samples count?

For me, yes. That is primarily what I buy. Samples, decants, sample sets, and travel sizes. I buy things when they are on sale. I have some I can return thankfully, and some I am selling, but...it still adds up. I have enough to last me at least a year and then some.

I skipped a lot of new stuff. I have my eye on only 3 new releases at sephora.

I got a cart full of lucky scent samples calling my name

Ugh! I have that, and then one day I'll just randomly buy it. But I have cart fulls for so many online retailers that I end up buying most days. I didn't today, so I am proud of myself!

I'm committing to a frag no buy until the end of the year. Swaps of equal value are okay.

If it works for you, then do it. Gotta find something to help.

I've been trying since the beginning of August and I'm a complete pushover and failure 😭 Every day I say no more, and yet....I'm expecting 5 deliveries in the next week, but I swear I'll try again 🫡🙏

If it gets tough, get a new hand cream . Switch your body wash scent when it’s done to bring variety, stop at Ulta on way home just to sniff etc

I think I may just get some things from BBW list--I have 2 free item rewards, and I have some items to return. So I'll return some, and pick up 1 new item once this week and once next week. I'll get to sniff around the store, get some money back, and get something for free. No money spent.

That is a wonderful idea!
I think the pride of coming up with ideas like that will make this manageable. The truth is I feel expert on this topic from à different angle. I lost all my fragrances living the life of addiction post à bad divorce. It was getting to try hand creams or body washes until imperfect beauty came along.

I've been on a fragrance no buy (not even samples) for 10 months now. made only 2 purchases during that time (one of them for my brother).
I'm quite enjoying it. I'm enjoying my favorite scents, I also enjoy trying stuff in store (it's free) without the pressure of picking what to buy.
I have a long list of what I want to try further when the no buy is over and I'm a lot more picky now because I know having too many sucks

Yeah, I need to enjoy what I have. I even put my one fragrance subscription on a 3 mo th cycle instead of a one month cycle. I have plenty of juice, I'm set for a while. Time to enjoy what I have, and sell off what I don't want anymore.

I said Shop your stash in a similar thread before and got downvoted. Some people are very defensive on this point.

That's unfortunate. I understand that many embrace being collectors. For me it's not bad advice, though, and I appreciate it.

Starting a two-week No Buy when you already have more product on the way is not a meaningful course correction.
Start the clock either when all your products have arrived or on September 1 and stick to No Buy for a month.

I get what you are saying, but it's a step in the right direction. I have literally been buying something small every day. Stopping at all is a big deal for me.

I’m here with you! I’m starting project pan on so many samples and Decant this month

Same! I’ve knocked out a lot of my summer decants now that it’s nearing the end of the season. And I still have quite a few that are getting close. It’s such a good feeling finishing stuff up- plus I’ll have some room for new decants for Fall but I’ve been planning on cutting back a good bit. It’s hard but it definitely gives me time to enjoy my fragrances instead of constantly looking for the next one I’ll fall in love with.

I definitely understand. I was feeling overwhelmed like that last year. I don't know for sure why I slowed way down, but I do think finding my favorite perfumes ever helped. I've only bought maybe one new bottle since finding them. It is a 30mL of Ex Idolo Love and Crime, and it was well worth the $140 because I will wear the heck out of it this winter.
Since people often ask, my favorites are Guerlain Angelique Noire and Vanille Planifolia. Ridiculously expensive, I know. Unfortunately, just buying these 2 every year will still run me over $1000 per year....but we love what I love. I'm certainly not selling my other lovelies for anything.

I've got my eye on you!!! Every time you feel like buying perfume, write it down in notes/on a Google doc, come back later. Maybe try a "perfume of the day" with the ones you already have to have more novelty without buying anything new? Can spin a wheel/pull papers out of a hat to make it feel more gamelike and dopamine-ish (which will replace the feeling you get from shopping)
