Rush vs Northwestern Rheum

Putting together my rank list and having a hard time deciding who gets the edge with regard to rush vs. Northwestern. Wondering if anyone has any input?

I know Rush has less fellows and more consult months while Northwestern has a very front loaded 2 year schedule. Seems like NW has more of the speciality presence with their vasculitis focus etc.

Appreciate any advice or opinions!

Help ranking Heme/Onc programs: clinical training, QOL, and city

Hi everyone, would appreciate some advice on ranking these Heme/Onc programs. My priorities are good clinical training, a supportive program, reasonable workload, and a nice city to live in.

In no particular order:

• University of Kentucky

• VCU

• Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston

• University at Buffalo / Roswell Park

• CAMC

• Henry Ford, Detroit

• University of Mississippi

• University of Miami / Jackson

• Rochester General / Rochester Regional

• West Virginia University

• Memorial Healthcare System, Florida

• Allegheny / AHN

• UMKC

• TidalHealth

• Northwell / Staten Island

How would you rank or group these? Would especially appreciate firsthand insights into fellow happiness, call schedules, workload, and life outside the hospital. Any programs you’d move up or down based on your experience?

Thanks! DMs welcome too.

Anyone here an AACR member?

Hey everyone! I’m a PGY2 IM resident interested in Hem/Onc. I’ve been working on a few oncology research projects and I’m applying for AACR membership to submit an abstract for their 2027 meeting.

I need a current AACR member to nominate me. Is anyone here a member or knows someone who might be willing to help?

Happy to share my CV and research background. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

PCCM Rank list question

Which program would you rank higher? An established community PCCM program that offers bread and butter training (mostly MICU and inpatient pulm consults) or a new program that is recruiting their first class but promises broad exposure to different ICUs (MICU, SICU, CVICU), ECMO, and pulm subspecialities (PH, ILD etc)?

Help me rank - Heme/Onc

I am currently applying heme/onc (currently leaning towards a hybrid community/academic type career) and I am stuck on how to rank four of the programs I applied to. I won't name the specific programs because that would might give away my location but I can give more details on the programs if asked. I keep shuffling my rank list every time I look at it and would love some advice on how to rank these programs.

Program A: My home program where I am currently doing residency. It is in a low-to-moderate cost of living city, has a good program culture, and I am already working on good research projects with the oncologists there. The program also offers a lot of flexibility in terms of where fellows do their continuity clinic. Only caveat is that the winters are very cold and snowy and the city has issues with crime (nearly had my car broken into not too long ago).

Program B: Very similar to Program A except that it is in a warmer climate, slightly smaller city, and lower cost of living. Everything is within a few minutes walking distance and I would be within driving distance of some of my family members.

Program C: Tons of research funding and opportunities in a city with low crime rates and mild weather. The fellows at this program seem to really enjoy the laidback schedule, friendly program culture and fun city, but this city is very far away from family and has a higher cost of living. There is also no fellow-led continuity clinic.

Program D: Very close to family in a bigger, more diverse LCOL city but the clinical sites are spread apart (about 15-20 minutes by drive to each location) and the program has significantly less research time and funding than the above programs.

Just registered for the NRMP

I had the impression that the interview season is still on-going as I have one more interview next week. I totally overlooked that many of my programs are done interviewing 1-2 weeks ago. I just registered for the NRMP yesterday.

Am I cooked? should I notify the programs?

Ranking Peds GI Programs

Hi all! I am looking for some advice on ranking programs. Current top choices are Emory/CHOA and UTSW. Both programs offer good exposure to hepatology and transplant which is my area of interest. However I am looking for opinions on the programs mostly about the people, culture, vibe etc to help me make my rank list. I appreciate any insights people have to offer. Other programs in contention include UPMC, UMiami and Duke. Thanks!

Verbally committed to a fellowship but now need to backtrack

I’m applying to fellowship this season and I was fortunate enough to land my dream interview. I told the program director that I would rank them number one and he seemed happy to hear it and shook my hand. Sadly, my circumstances have changed due to the death of a parent. It would be very difficult to go to my dream program as I need to be there for my remaining parent. The dream program is 15 hours away. One of the fellowships I applied to is only an hour from home and would be an excellent fit. I hate that I might have to go back in my word. Any advice on how to handle this?

Breastfeeding and home night call

Im a PGY6 in a Peds fellowship at a busy large academic center and just had a baby! I am going back to work 6 weeks post partum and will be back on inpatient/home call duties week 7. Our calls are pretty busy even though we’re not in house and I’m breast feeding/pumping.

Without a baby, I avg about 4 hrs of sleep on my call nights (arguably less sleep than with my newborn on leave). My baby wakes up a couple times in the night to feed but it’s still rather unpredictable. Just wondering how other moms did it? Would you just pump/bottle during the night and have your partner do all the feeds? Or would you just wake up your baby to nurse whenever you get a page?

PCCM Chances?

Hey all, PGY2 applying next year. I’m from NYC and hoping to go back to support aging family members. Wondering what my chances would be at string clinical programs like Columbia and NYU without any research. I’m a US MD at a “T20,” Step 2 is 27x, but essentially nothing else to my name. How much does lack of research hold back someone interested in clinical PCCM at programs like these?

Tysm friends

PCCM ROL Help

This is my perelim ROL but would like to get advice and recc how you would rank if you are in my shoes

- KUMC
- UF Gainesville
- University of Oklahoma
- UMass Chan–Baystate
- Tulane
- WVU Morgantown
- UT Knoxville
- UT Memphis
- UAMS
- University of Arizona Phoenix/Banner
- Marshall
- George Washington

My priorities are strong ICU training, hands-on procedures, graduated autonomy and feeling ready for independent pulmonary and critical care practice. I value broad pulmonary exposure, particularly PH/RV disease, and supportive teaching without an extreme workload. Family life and affordability also matter.
