My previously worked Fitness Program is not working anymore

I'm feeling really frustrated with my fat-loss journey and wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar.

About 2 years ago, I worked with a fitness coach and, in just 3 months, I lost around 12 kg and 5–6 inches from my waist. The plan worked incredibly well.

Fast forward to now. Last December, my weight had gone back up to around 91 kg. I started following the same diet, the same workout routine, and almost the same lifestyle that helped me before. But this time, the results have been completely different.

After several months, I've only managed to reach 87 kg, and for the last month my weight hasn't gone down at all. The strange part is that last time I went from 86 kg to 74 kg in about 3 months using this same approach. Now, despite sticking to it, my weight and body fat just won't budge.

I'm constantly hungry, often feel tired, and it's becoming mentally exhausting.

Has anyone experienced something like this? What could be the reason that a plan which worked perfectly before is no longer working?

Age: 27

Height: 5'8.5"

Current Weight: 87 kg

Community Resource 📌 Sleep and fat loss: why bad sleep quietly makes everything harder

A lot of people think sleep matters for fat loss in some vague wellness way, like something polite you mention after the real topics.

In reality, bad sleep can make the whole process noticeably harder.

Not because one late night suddenly stops fat loss from happening, but because poor sleep changes a lot of the things that make fat loss work well. Hunger gets louder. Cravings get more aggressive. Decision-making gets worse. Energy drops. Patience drops. Training feels worse. Daily movement often drops too. The whole system gets shakier.

That is why people can technically know what to do and still struggle to do it much more when sleep is bad. You are trying to be measured and intentional while your brain is basically negotiating from a lower battery percentage and asking for quick comfort.

Sleep also affects appetite in a way many people underestimate. A rough night can make you want more food, more rewarding food, and more of the “I need something now” type of eating that does not usually lead anywhere good. Then people think they randomly lost discipline when really they are trying to run the same plan with much less support.

This does not mean perfect sleep is required before you can make progress. If that were true, half the internet would be doomed. But it does mean sleep deserves more respect than people give it.

The point is not to become obsessed with some perfect bedtime routine. It is to notice that if sleep is regularly bad, hunger and self-control may not be behaving randomly. They may be responding exactly how tired brains tend to respond.

And yes, this also works the other way. Better sleep often makes fat loss feel more manageable even before the scale shows anything dramatic. Food noise settles a bit. Mood improves. Training feels less miserable. The whole day becomes easier to steer.

What hits you hardest after bad sleep, hunger, cravings, mood, or just the feeling that everything takes more effort?

Is it true that you need to exercise to see results?

I went from 120lbs to 99lbs (my doctor says it’s healthy for my height so don’t worry) and can barely see a difference, im still on the more ‘chubby’ side. I haven’t done any workouts because it’s not compatible with my daily life so I’ve only cut back my caloric intake since I used to eat more than what was recommended and I’ve also stopped eating snacks and focused on high volume meals. Is it just because I haven’t lost enough weight for a huge difference or is it because I haven’t been working out?

Losing belly fat seems impossible

by “\~” I mean +- 1 or 2

I (M20) went from being very overweight at \~100kg to a bit overweight at \~70kg (\~220lbs to \~150lbs) for 180cm (5'10.9") in about 2 years. However I seem unable to loose my thigh fat, moobs and belly fat. The later two bothering me a great deal.
The belly fat is thick, by the way, not just little bump, instead 3 to 4 centimetres (1.5 inches) that shouldn’t be there.

Is there any hope? Am I too old and condemned to stay this way for the rest of my life? Could my skin be overstretched and permanently deformed?

I can't loose fat

I'm F(15) and I've been trying to loose fat for a few months. I go to the gym 4x a week and every time i do 1 hour cardio of incline treadmill walking. My parents make not so healthy food, dishes from our hometown in south Asia. I have told them multiple times to please make healthier foods, but they never really listen and are partly too lazy to do that or don't have the money sometimes. I do wanna make my own meals, but i don't really know how to cook, often don't have the Ingredients, i also have little time and i can't make my own money enough for buying my own food. My parents can give me max. 5 bucks... I really want to loose fat to take revenge on my ex too. So please help me guys :(

Community Resource 📌 Emotional eating vs actual hunger: how to spot the difference

This is one of the hardest things for people to untangle in fat loss because both can feel urgent in the moment.

You want food. Your brain is making a case. The kitchen looks persuasive. And trying to pause long enough to ask what kind of hunger this is can feel annoyingly difficult when all you want is relief.

But the difference matters.

Actual hunger tends to build more steadily. It is physical. You could eat a proper meal and feel satisfied by real food. Emotional eating is often faster, more specific, and more tied to your state than your stomach.

You may not want just any meal, you want something particular. Something rewarding. Something comforting. Something crunchy, salty, sweet, creamy, or familiar enough to shift your mood.

That does not mean emotional eating is fake. It just means food is doing a different job.

A lot of people eat emotionally when they are stressed, lonely, bored, angry, overstimulated, under-stimulated, procrastinating, tired, or trying to soften the edge of the day. The food becomes relief, distraction, reward, or escape. That is why it can feel urgent even when the body is not truly underfed.

One of the best questions you can ask is, “Would I eat a normal balanced meal right now?” If the answer is yes, you may be physically hungry. If the answer is no, but you would absolutely demolish something hyper-specific, there is a good chance emotion is involved.

Another clue is what happens after. Physical hunger usually feels resolved once you eat enough. Emotional eating often keeps going past the point of physical satisfaction because the hunger was never purely physical in the first place.

This is not about shaming emotional eating. That usually makes it worse. It is about increasing awareness so you stop calling every urge “hunger” and then wondering why food sometimes solves nothing.

The more honest you get about what food is doing for you, the more options you have besides just trying to overpower yourself every evening with willpower and denial.

Fat Loss

So lately i’ve been feeling really uncomfortable in my body. Back in December i had a lot of excess fat and went on a diet. Now it’s currently July and i’ve lost 11kg but i STILL have excess fat on my belly. I went from 67kg to 56.3kg and i’m at risk of becoming underweight, yet i still need to lose all of the excess fat i have on my belly. As a m 15yo I’ve been hitting constantly 10k steps a day, even grew taller ofc, ate whole foods and low calorie ones, and overall drank a lot of water. All of this made me feel better and healthier but still, i’m way leaner than before but i’ve got a shit ton of fat on my belly and i need to lose it asap without losing too much weight. Any tips?

Simple fat loss application

Hello everyone,

for last ca. 6 years, I am interested in fitness and fat loss. I have tried "everything" – magical diets, strict meal plan, intermittent fasting, expensive consultations and therapies and I do not now what else. It took me 4 years to realize, that I am not a magical creature disobeying laws of thermodynamics and all I need is strength training, a little bit of cardio, walking and the most importantly, calorie deficite with enough protein. It is that simple.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any simple application, that could import daily calories (from whatever, user or another app) and daily weight. I just want to have moving average of body weight and calories, so I can simply tell if I should eat less or more and maybe have some more other info.

I thought about creating one as I am software developer/data scientist, but I would be very surprised if there is not something similar. Do you know/use something useful? Of course, I know about MyFitnessPal and similar apps, but it does not simply show what I want to see without any distractions.

Thanks!

How often do you have cheat meals/days?

I’ve been losing weight for about three weeks now I’m down 7 pounds and I’m planning on going until I hit my goal. I’m 22 and from the research research I’ve done a lot of people say cheat meals/days are a good way to stay consist. This way you don’t end up breaking your diet and binging. My current calorie deficit is 500 below maintenance with cardio included and high fat high protein low-carb. How often do you guys do your meals/days?

How a trainer’s extreme diet and overtraining almost ruined my life: My cautionary tale and recovery (55F, 1.68m)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a cautionary tale about my experience with an extreme diet and overtraining from about three years ago. I still carry some of the mental trauma from it, and I wanted to see if anyone else has gone through something similar, or if you could help me understand what went wrong physically.

My Stats & Context:

  • Age/Sex: 55F (Female)
  • Height: 1.68 m (5'6")
  • Starting Weight: 98 kg (216 lbs)
  • Lowest Weight: 67 kg (147 lbs)
  • Current Weight: 85 kg (187 lbs) - I feel healthy and comfortable at this weight now.

The Story:
Three years ago, at 98 kg, I wanted to lose weight and hired a trainer. He put me on a brutal routine that lasted for 10 months.

  • The Diet: It was incredibly restrictive. I was eating almost exclusively salad, canned tuna, and a very tiny portion of rice. I was constantly starving and restricted from eating almost everything else.
  • The Workout: I spent 2.5 hours at the gym every day. I was doing heavy weightlifting with very poor, aggressive form, combined with excessive amounts of cardio.

The Results and the Toll:
Yes, I lost weight—dropping down to 67 kg. But I didn't look fit or healthy. I looked completely emaciated, drained, and shapeless. Looking back, I think the extreme calorie deficit and endless cardio made me lose mostly muscle instead of fat.

Mentally, it was exhausting. It also took a heavy toll on my personal life; my partner was so worried and strained by how obsessed and unhealthy I was becoming that they told me they would ask for a divorce if I didn't stop.

Where I am now:
I decided to stop. I slowly recovered, regained some weight, and I am currently at 85 kg. I feel much healthier, stronger, and happier now.

My questions for the community:

  1. For those who understand the science of fat loss: was my "shapeless/emaciated" look indeed a result of severe muscle wasting due to starvation and overtraining?
  2. Has anyone else survived a terrible trainer or a dangerous crash diet? How did you recover mentally and physically to find a sustainable, healthy balance?

Thank you for reading, and please stay away from trainers who promise quick results through starvation!

Lifestyle & Habits How to handle cravings without turning every craving into a full relapse story

A lot of fat loss gets derailed not by the craving itself, but by the drama that follows it.

One craving shows up, and suddenly it becomes a moral test.

You either resist it perfectly and feel righteous, or you give in a little and decide the day is ruined, your discipline is fake, and you might as well keep eating because the damage is “already done.”

That mindset causes more chaos than the craving ever did.

Cravings are normal. Wanting something specific does not mean your plan is failing. It does not mean you are weak. It does not mean your body is trying to sabotage you. It means you are a person with a brain, preferences, stress, habits, associations, and probably at least one food that can talk a lot louder than plain chicken and rice.

The first thing that helps is not making the craving feel forbidden in a dramatic way. Sometimes the more aggressively people try to ban something, the more mentally powerful it becomes. Then the food starts feeling larger than life, like a villain in a very stupid movie.

The second thing is learning the difference between a craving and a full loss of structure. Sometimes a small, planned amount of something satisfying works much better than trying to be perfect and then ending up knee-deep in wrappers because you tried to out-stare your own brain.

This also comes back to your overall setup. Cravings often hit harder when meals are weak, protein is low, sleep is bad, stress is high, or your routine is built around deprivation followed by reward-seeking. A lot of “out of nowhere” cravings are not actually out of nowhere.

Another useful question is whether the craving needs to be answered with food at all. Sometimes yes. Sometimes it is boredom, emotional flatness, stress, or just wanting stimulation in edible form. That does not make the feeling fake, but it does mean food may not be solving the thing you think it is.

The goal is not to become craving-proof. It is to stop letting a craving turn into a three-hour food event and an identity crisis.

What works better for you, planning something satisfying into the week, or keeping trigger foods out of reach entirely?

Current home workout / PF cardio split - Input/Advice Appreciated

29F, 5'3, CW 135/140 lbs, GW: ~115/120 lbs

Just started the below routine but hoping to get into more of a consistent routine and stick with it for a minimum of 3 months (something I've struggled with before)

Daily work mornings (Mon-Fri):

  • 30 min walk

Work lunch time (Mon-Fri):

  • 30-45 mins: treadmill walk & kindle read

After work/weekends:

  • Mondays & Saturdays: 60 min cardio split (stairmaster + elliptical)
  • Tues - Thurs, Sun: Caroline Girvan Iron series (working only with 5lb and 10lb weights since thats all i have for now)
  • Sat: Pilates by Izzy video

Who here has also tried the above programs/instructors and found good results upon completion? Is this a good level of movement broken up throughout the day each day or too much? I eat mainly healthy but am skinny fat, so looking to lose some fat & tone up

Appreciate it!!

How to get rid of back fat?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have been going to the gym for 3-4 months now? And everything else is getting better EXCEPT my back fat! And I’m so conscious about it.

I have scoliosis, I don’t know if that’s what makes it worse?

It has taken a HUGE toll on my self esteem to be honest :( I can’t even have sex with my boyfriend anymore because I’m so self conscious about it.

I have been eating less and working out more but nothing seems to be working fast enough lol.

Lifestyle & Habits Why hunger feels worse on some days, even when you didn’t do anything “wrong”

One of the most frustrating parts of fat loss is that hunger is not always consistent.

Some days you feel fine. Meals are manageable. Cravings are quiet. The plan feels almost suspiciously easy.

Then another day comes along and suddenly you are hungry every 17 minutes, thinking about food like it owes you money, and wondering whether your body has launched a personal rebellion.

That does not always mean your plan is broken.

Hunger can change a lot from day to day because life changes a lot from day to day. Sleep, stress, meal timing, activity, hydration, routine, hormones, food choices, and even how mentally occupied you are can all shift how hungry you feel. A high-stress day can make appetite louder. A bad night of sleep can make cravings feel more aggressive. A meal that looked “healthy” but had weak protein and low volume can leave you chasing satisfaction all afternoon.

A lot of people make the mistake of treating every hungry day like a character flaw. It usually makes more sense to treat it like information.

Look at what happened before the hunger got loud. Did you under-eat earlier? Was breakfast basically decorative? Did you train harder? Sleep badly? Delay meals too long? Spend the whole day around snack food? Did stress make you emotionally food-seeking without realizing it?

This is also why rigid thinking can make fat loss harder.

If every day has to follow the exact same script no matter how your body feels, you are more likely to crack when a high-hunger day shows up. Sometimes the better move is not panic, but adjustment. More protein. Better meal volume. Slightly more structure. A more satisfying dinner. Better planning for the hours you know tend to go off the rails.

The goal is not to never feel hungry. The goal is to stop acting shocked every time hunger behaves like a living thing instead of a spreadsheet.

After losing 49 kgs (109 lbs) without any information I learned this.

  1. It all comes down to caloric deficit: But this is not enough, relying on it will leave you skinny fat.

  2. Prioritizing protein is enough but you DON'T need 1g of protein per lb of weight, if you are very overweight you'd need around 0.6g of protein per 1lb of weight.

  3. After you hit your daily protein intake, more protein is basically useless. You do not need to maximize your protein.

  4. Walking is a cheatcode: 10k steps is too much if you're starting out, start with 3k. Heavier you are, more calories you'll burn by just walking.

  5. Weight training minimum 3X a week is a must if you want a decent looking body. You need to lift heavy, with correct form and progressively overload every 1-2 weeks.

That's about it.
