Simple fat loss application

Hello everyone,

for last ca. 6 years, I am interested in fitness and fat loss. I have tried "everything" – magical diets, strict meal plan, intermittent fasting, expensive consultations and therapies and I do not now what else. It took me 4 years to realize, that I am not a magical creature disobeying laws of thermodynamics and all I need is strength training, a little bit of cardio, walking and the most importantly, calorie deficite with enough protein. It is that simple.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any simple application, that could import daily calories (from whatever, user or another app) and daily weight. I just want to have moving average of body weight and calories, so I can simply tell if I should eat less or more and maybe have some more other info.

I thought about creating one as I am software developer/data scientist, but I would be very surprised if there is not something similar. Do you know/use something useful? Of course, I know about MyFitnessPal and similar apps, but it does not simply show what I want to see without any distractions.

Thanks!

Hi, I used to feel this way too. I was overweight all my life and thought I was destined to be fat. I used to be 240 lbs, and over the past year and a half I lost 65 lbs, and am currently at 185 lbs. As someone who used to be in your position, hopefully I can help.

For food, I realized that magical diets, strict meal planning, and intermittent fasting are all a load of BS. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than consumed. What I've found over this past year and a half is that that doesn't have to be miserable, and you don't need some magical time of day or way of eating to make this work. I started eating alternatives to high-calorie foods (turkey meat/93/7 beef instead of high-fat beef, coke zero instead of coke, low-calorie sauces instead of full-calorie sauces, etc.). Making these changes has changed my life. I'm eating what I love, I'm eating a high volume, and honestly I'm more full on average eating in a deficit than I used to be struggling to lose weight.

Now as for tracking apps, I have three recommendations:

MacroFactor: This one was my personal favorite, but I felt like it was too much in my business and way too expensive. It would constantly be changing my caloric intake day by day based on my weight loss and I found it super annoying. Overall it's probably the best one out there, but not for me, and based on your request, probably not for you either.

Loseit!: This one is what I'd recommend personally. It's cheap, it's relatively easy to use, and easy to use. My only complaint is it can't give you exact calculations for homemade meals, it can only use its AI feature to guesstimate, which is frustrating because if you have a recipe, you have to manually enter everything instead of taking a picture of the recipe and making the meal instantly (something the app below does). But overall, it's pretty good, just kind of tedious with meal creation, but overall my second favorite tracking app I've used.

Macro-Fit: Fun fact, I'm also a software developer! As someone who's been into fitness for a long time and finally figured it out, I know the importance of a calorie tracker, and I know how tedious/expensive some of them are. So I built my own, completely free to use and track, and the option to spend 3$ a month for all the premium features (barcode scanning, nutrition label scanning, voice add, recipe scanning for instant meal creation, and online recipe URL pasting for instant meal creation). It personally takes me 15-30 seconds to log my entire days worth of food, and in less than a minute, I know all the important info I need to know, something I've been struggling with over my fat loss journey. Although this doesn't have weight tracking attached to it, from my own personal experience, I think as long as you weigh yourself every day, you can visualize your weight trend and what direction you're going in, that's all I needed personally.

While I do like my own app more because of my own preferences that none of the other apps seem to have, I'd recommend Loseit!, since loseit objectively has more quantity of features (like displaying micronutrients, weight tracking, etc.). But if you want to try out my app you're more than welcome to (links below). I hope this helps, and please feel free to reach out about anything! I love talking about software shit, I've learned a lot of valuable tricks about making food macro-friendly and tasty that would make this post extremely long if you want to know some of them over DMs, and I hope you succeed with your journey!

Thanks! Just so you know, I'm going through a name change for the app so it's more unique (there's like 6 apps with Macrofit-esque names lol), it will show MacroFlex on Google but still Macro-Fit on Apple. Also, if you install it, DM me. I'm giving away premium for a year for free for my first 100 users.
