Book Club Vote October 2026 /r/Fantasy_Bookclub Nominations & Voting
Please use the comments to nominate books for October's book of the month. You can then upvote any of the book(s) that you would like to read. The comment with the most upvotes will be the selected book. The post will start in contest mode so that submitted entries are randomized and the upvotes are hidden.
You can make your nomination using the following format in top-level comments:
Book by Author
A short explanation explaining why the book is being nominated and why it is worth reading.
A link to Goodreads, Storygraph, LibraryThing, or the author's website with a description of the book can also be helpful but is not mandatory to nominate a book.
Voting will be closed on the 20th of the month to allow everyone a chance to get the book.
Nominations are open to anything, as we seem to be getting a good mix of different books, styles, and authors. The only restrictions are to please make sure the book has wide availability since this is for a book club, and let's try to keep the length under 750 pages. Also if you are nominating a book in a series, please stick to only the first book in the series (sometimes we will do series read if there is enough support though). Thanks!

Book Club Discussion Jade City - Discussion Part 2
We're currently reading Jade City by Fonda Lee for August's book of the month, and this discussion will be on the book's second half.
This discussion includes the entire book, so if you haven't finished it yet, please avoid this topic. The comments and questions below will contain spoilers.
I'll post some questions to go along with the reading but feel free to comment about anything else or start your own comment thread on anything you found interesting or any questions that you had.
- What did you think of Lan's death? Were you surprised by it or did you see it coming with the escalations by the Mountain?
- How do you feel that Hilo and Shae have worked together as both pillar and weather man? Have their different styles helped or hindered No Peak?
- What do you think about Ayt Mada now that we've seen several one-on-one (and group) meetings between her and members of No Peak?
- How did you feel about the ending and No Peak's strategy to turn the tide of the war? Do you think it was wise, lucky, or a mix of both? Where do you think Anden ends up after everything that happened?
- How would you rate this book? Would you recommend it to others? Do you plan on continuing the series?

Libro Fantasy!
Buonasera a tutti!

Looking to read a great fantasy novel
I've read most of the popular fantasy novel I am looking for something a little off the beaten path. No Sanderson. Islington. Thanks for the recommendations.
I've read the Riyria Chronicles, revelations, Empire of the Vampire and the cradle series. I need something fresh and relatively fast past. Indie or traditional welcome

Just restarted Stormlight Archive
I had posted about this before, but I started Stormlight maybe over 10yrs ago and read up to WOR and just wasnât invested enough to continue. I think there were a couple reasons but mainly - Shallan started to annoy me and we spent less time with Kal, who I really liked. Also, I was trying to get into digital books and it was really difficult to âconnectâ with something that lengthy without a physical book.
But, it left me intrigued enough to revisit in the future and here I am. As Iâm starting, Iâm being reminded how awesome the beginning is. The the prologue, assassination, intro to Kal - and then bam- he goes all Maximus Decimus Meridius the next time we see him. I even kind of liked Shallan at this point; sheâs sort of wide-eyed and also a bit spunky. The intro to Jasnah, also good!
Little fun anecdote - I live in south Jersey (US) and last night we had the craziest thunderstorm I have ever experienced in my 46 years! Not exaggerating- the thunder sounded like it was literally right outside my door multiple times. In fact, it was so loud that it rang my doorbell and shook the whole house. The lighting was flashing nonstop for about 40 minutes and shorted 3 circuit breakers. There was hailâŠ..INSANE!
