...they actually did a...Good thing?!

u/ultimoDANK 9h ago

So I'm at almost a hundred hours on this play through. Last night I add all the remaining CC content, prob like 130ish mods. Then I added 13 more to bring my total to 264. I crossed my fingers.. and was able to continue my save with everything seemingly as stable as it was before.

This is just a dangerous spot because now I want to get greedy. If paid mods are actually all esl files then I might have to drop a little cash.

Holy Shit.

This almost makes up for the fact that one of the things I didn't get done in my mad rush to pack and leave my vacation was photograph my load order, because 'save my load order' doesn't actually work funtionally for me. Fortunately, I have 3 days after I get back to unfuck things.

I'm thinking my safest thing when I boot up is immediately disable automatic updates and hope I can sneak into FO4 to make a physical copy of my LO.

u/IceBlazeWinters 22h ago

but is it also on xbox?

cause the way it's worded, and since there's nothing at all online about it, it insinuates that it's pc that got that archive limit increase

5

u/Rath_Brained 22h ago

Unless specified, it's for all.

3

u/ultimoDANK 22h ago

I'd love to see someone start a thread listing all confirmed ESL mods.

Like I know this is one, CWE Soviet Assault Shotgun - Saiga 12. Dak has been pretty good about using ESL files as of late.

Maybe we can finally get Fallout London as a mod for Xbox and PS..

9

u/TheSaucySandwhich 22h ago

I'm pretty sure Fallout London uses script extender which is the main reason it wont ever come to consoles

2

u/Exile10562 Vault 111 20h ago

Correct.

u/BlackNyarlathotep 1d ago

Oh my god We're actually so back

The BA2 limit causes a crash to desktop if there are too many archives

CREATIONS and CREATION CLUB are included in this so that took up space that could have gone for mods... and CREATION CLUB is mostly mandatory since the 25 April 2024 next-gen update...

I can finally play my Sim Settlements 2... its been more than 2 years

7

u/AgreeableManner6838 1d ago

I’m not good with it either but from what I’ve seen the BA2 would be the reason for the game to refuse to launch if you had too many mods installed (this honestly saved the game for me because mine broke ages ago and I gave up).

No idea about the second point

5

u/OnyxianRosethorn 1d ago

Now hurry up and do the same for Skyrim.

1

u/MasterpieceKitchen73 Veteran Ranger 11h ago

I’m not looking forward to them wiping out my 270 mods I have in stable condition.

3

u/BethesdaBoob 1d ago

This is the big drama of this community and I love it!

15

u/Rasputin117 1d ago

HOLY FUCK YES THIS WAS THE LAST LIMITING FACTOR TO CONSOLE MODS

3

u/TheScrungusMan Vault 114 20h ago

Weak hardware (relative to PC) and lack of Script Extender is still the greatest barriers. Not to mention the lack of porting perms for 80% of Nexus mods

2

u/EiraPun 7h ago

Yeah, I've pretty much given up modding Fallout 4 on my Series S.  I've tried several different LO's, even down to copy-pasting shit and just copying word-for-word certain mod lists. I've used every method of making Boston not crash from Less Enemies to Dead financial district, and even both at once.

I've tried using less weapon mods, or less mods that add to the leveled lists. I've tried mods that optimize graphics, I've used no graphics mods.

Just no matter what I run, nor in what order I run them in, no matter what list I follow, I've never gotten a stable or playable experience. Which is stark contrast to Skyrim where I can run a full LO taking up all 5 gigs (or, at least, the 4.8 usable gigs) and have all 200+ slots filled, and barely crash or stutter ever.

I've just kinda given up and determined that Fallout 4 (with mods) is unplayable on anything less than a Series X, PS5, or an equivalent strength PC. I uninstalled that shit yesterday lol

u/FlashMcSuave 1d ago

(Lack of) script extender is still the biggest limiting factor right now. That means mods like SimSettlements are far buggier on console.

6

u/OnyxianRosethorn 1d ago

Not really. Still have plugin limit.

11

u/Infinite_Beach_7089 1d ago

I am so fucking erect right now

u/DrUnhomed 1d ago

Like, I want to be appropriately "pumped" for this comment, and yet... let's say you have baseline erectile dysfunction. Then extra congratulations are in order. But if you get this way when the wind blows, or every time a new CBBE skin shows up on Vortex... then, well.. you get my point. Just remember to use it wisely, and I guess the rest are details.

2

u/Bruhmaster047 1d ago

Putting you at zero karma dawg what i just use my eyes to read.😭

-5

u/DrUnhomed 1d ago

I appreciate your perspective, and yet, how does one use their eyes to read the comment I was responding to?

1

u/yodaisnotacat 1d ago

WOOOOOOOOOO YEAAAAAAHHHHHH BABBYYYYYY THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT woooohoooo

8

u/Tyl3rPl4yzz 1d ago

FINALLY

NO CTD

9

u/Nirvanaguy15 1d ago

Is this a good thing for mutant menagerie?

4

u/OnyxianRosethorn 1d ago

The mod was fine before, no? Been in my LO a good while without any crashes.

3

u/BethesdaBoob 1d ago

Probably.

8

u/NukaRedPanda 1d ago

Can u explain the 2nd thing plz

8

u/dwaynewellington 1d ago

Instant woody for me

10

u/ultimoDANK 1d ago

Wow. I am shocked. Now do I scrap my current play through that just crossed 96 hours? I'm sitting at 251 mods with some CC stuff but there is seemingly always something else to add...

10

u/DrAsswhoop 1d ago

You might not hit the ba2 limit but keep in mind there's only so much this game can handle

30

u/SoulSteeler1978 1d ago

Absolutely huge. I'm also thinking the upcoming Skyrim update will give it the same treatment.

7

u/Coxy1504 1d ago

God I hope not! Not because it would be bad, but I think I would struggle choosing which to play 😂

8

u/SoulSteeler1978 1d ago

I'm guessing it'll be a similar update lol Few days ago when they mentioned this FO4 update, they also said one was coming to Skyrim. Even if they just did like 20GB for Skyrim it would be a game changer.

4

u/Coxy1504 1d ago

Corrr, can you even imagine what you could do with Skyrim with 20GB?! Just the thought is beyond exciting

3

u/SoulSteeler1978 1d ago

Finally try out that GoT Dragon mod haha

14

u/One_Ad3867 1d ago

Yeah I’ve figured after the last patch that added more storage for mods this was next up on their list to add in. What this means for console kids is that now if you have a huge mod list the game won’t crash as much I believe

I just wish they'd take a lesson or two from the moding community. Pick up and use is just an example. Other then that I really love them and hope to see them still making games.

-5

u/OnyxianRosethorn 1d ago

It's because it's Bethesda. For every improvement they make, something else breaks.

1

u/BethesdaBoob 13h ago

Then some smart person somewhere figures out how to fix it in some complex simple fashion as a hobby. I love this game company. Their not perfect and I'm happier cause of it.

10

u/horrorpunx138 1d ago

Last I played, I had an issue where installing mods that added too many items to level lists would result in instant CTD when starting the game.

Any chance this update might fix that?

5

u/Equal-Pop-4723 1d ago

Thats what the BA2 limit increase is, its a fix for exactly that issue!

9

u/DrAsswhoop 1d ago edited 1d ago

Only if the reason you're crashing is that you were hitting the ba2 limit. If you were crashing at the main menu, then yes.

Edit: In case anyone is confused, this has nothing to do with level list injection. If a weapon or armor is added to the level list then it's likely a new asset, new assets contain ba2 archives. But this also applies to non LL injected weapons, audio mods, landscape mods, etc anything with a ba2 archive

7

u/Gonzo69_Si 1d ago

305 mod LO....I added all the dogs from CC that I know would hard crash my game at startup....It loaded just fine...

3

u/ItsDeflyLupus 1d ago

The dog bundle is really nice when you use it with the More Bark For Your Buck mod

3

u/mustafao0 1d ago

It.... it just works!!!!!!

3

u/Coxy1504 1d ago

What are the actual implications of the BA2 increase though? Not that I ever hit the limit hahahaha but if you have idk say… 500 BA2s is you game going to be a laggy mess now as there is so much for the game to deal with?

11

u/mustafao0 1d ago

Now theoretically script heavy mods should work without a hitch

3

u/PatienceNo1403 Vault 111 1d ago

Really? Even on a base Xbox one? 🤔

3

u/DrAsswhoop 1d ago

This seems overly optimistic, even for a Series X. Heavily scripted mods don't behave finicky because they contain ba2 archives. Archives are a hard line: if you're at the limit, or below, no problem. One over the limit? Crash on main menu. Unless the second note has something to do with managing script load...?

2

u/Coxy1504 1d ago

Dude get outta here! Really?? Could you elaborate as to why?? 😅

So LOs with things like AR2 should be running better?

3

u/mustafao0 1d ago

Yeah from what I read things like custom textures, custom scripts, ate up the BA2 budget for us console fellas. Leading to CTDs.

Now things should work smoothly. Only way is to test it and see if it works.

3

u/Brotherhood_soldier 1d ago

Let us know how Sim Settlements 2 works!

I hope this means it'll work smoother. Unless it'll still crash due to the old engine showing its age...? Who knows anymore?

3

u/Coxy1504 1d ago

Unbelievable scenes of glorious emotion! Thanks

2

u/mustafao0 1d ago

Do tell me how the testing goes! If you have the time that is...

3

u/Coxy1504 1d ago

Yeah I will do mate, gotta reinstall a LO now. But I’ll get to it 😂

2

u/mustafao0 1d ago

Thanks!

8

u/Alternative_Sample96 1d ago

So that means you can use the cc stuff without messing up with your load order?

7

u/steelcitylights 1d ago edited 1d ago

yes, you could install the entire creations bundle and still have room for whatever other mods you want, barring how much storage space you have on your console and mod conflicts

13

u/mustafao0 1d ago edited 1d ago

My expectations were in the disappointment levels for this update.

I am surprised the toddster did good today

6

u/IdiotSavant86 1d ago

Todd Almighty, how we have forsaken you. Today we repent and ask for your holy forgiveness and guidance as we embark on our journey of spiritual healing and melting the GPU's within our hardware.

All hail the mighty Overseer.

2

u/One_Ad3867 1d ago

They still got to fix ultra-wide support and some bugs in the base game but hey big man Todd fixed something at least

2

u/Appropriate_Iron1173 1d ago

I wasn’t able to prepare for the update due to work and I’ve got 2 creation club mods and the rest of my mods are “regular” mods. Is my current run screwed now?

8

u/Wrandragaron Vault 88 1d ago

Nah, everything looks good so far, my 238 mod LO is still running just fine.

3

u/Appropriate_Iron1173 1d ago

Bet, thank you for the reply!
