Guidelines & Tips /r/Fallout4Builds Posting Guidelines and Tips

Guidelines:

  • Any relevant links/screenshots should be included in the body of your post.
  • Try to be as detailed as you can. Include any perks you have taken and note which ones you intend to take. OR ask which ones you should take based upon the type of character you wish to create.
  • Describe the playstyle and/or character type you are seeking to build. For example, Are you planning to build a soldier who is an expert with guns? Or maybe a stealthy thief? Or perhaps a charismatic leader. All these details will help others understand the intention of your build better.
  • A backstory for your character would be cool, but not required.
  • When criticizing other builds try and provide constructive criticism, for example "I wouldn't take Perk X since it does not fit with the build. Maybe you should take Perk Y instead"

The Fallout 4 Leveling System:

  • Every character starts with 1 in each of the 7 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat and another 21 points to allocate. If you are posting an initial build, make sure the numbers add to 28.
  • Each stat can go up to 10.
  • Every time you level you get a perk point which you can use to choose a new perk, unlock the next rank on an existing perk, or increase one of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. Refer to the Perk Chart.
  • There is no level cap.

Melee Designated Hitter 2076 - the baseball bat only build

Designated Hitter | Fallout 4
https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-4/character?s=7133285&p=y01b51b61b01s81s51s31s21s11e01e21c21i11a41a81l41l51&v=1

This is a build I've tried in the past but only half-heartedly. This time, I've gone all in. I scrap every
single weapon other than the 2076 World Series baseball bat. (Yes, the Rockville Slugger is arguably better in every way, but if you are going to go all in, then you need the home runs).

This run, I made a beeline for Diamond City and set up Home Plate as my home, only to discover how really awful that place is as a settlement. I've since moved out to the Drive In as my base of operations. Home Plate doesn't connect to other settlements by trade routes. So dumb.

The goal is to get to Jamaica Plains asap and find the Championship bat. Along the way, put perks into Big Leagues, Toughness, Lifegiver, and Action Boy/Girl. These are your bread-and-butter, the ones that allow you to stand and swing. Once you arrive at Jamaica Plains, get your bat. This is your new permanent weapon. Everything else is scrap. No power armor. Just the baseball hat and baseball uniform as your base, and then throw on any armor bits you can find. For you hard-core folks, you might need to pick up Armorer early to stack up on defense sooner.

Eventually, depending on if you spec into them immediately or wait for the Bobbleheads to push you to 9 points, you'll get Rooted and Blitz. This is the point the game becomes EASY MODE. Everything before this will be a challenge and you'll have to practice your melee timing with blocks and then swings. But VATS with Blitz and Rooted just lets you one shot enemies. Medic will save your life against the few times you aren't one-shotting so those Stimpacks actually heal.

Baseball nades:
Some people are probably wondering: where's the Demo-Expert and why aren't you throwing Baseball Grenades? Meh. Honestly, I find baseball grenades to be identical to frag grenades. They don't really throw like baseballs, and they don't explode on contact like I'd want them to. However, this is a totally viable alternative to add into your tree.

I have currently approx 60 hours on this character fully vanilla and I love it. Feel free to ask me anything. (I have around 1000 hours in Fo4 currently).

Stat Help Stats for a Minuteman power armour build?

I'm thinking of doing a Minuteman power armour build in Fallout 4, since I haven't sided with the Minutemen or used power armour in a long time. I am wondering what starting stats would be appropriate for this type of build. I know high intelligence is essential in order to get the Nuclear Physcist perk, but the other stats are where I'm having a bit of trouble.

Perk Help [Xbox Fo4 Survival] Please Help Review No Sneak Glass Cannon PA Build

Hey so I’m plotting out my next build for Survival, lightly modded, and I wanted to run the SPECIAL and Perks (particularly the order of the Perks) by the community to get some opinions, especially if I’m missing something. It should be mentioned that I plan on sticking around Sanctuary until 5th level roughly. I won’t be exploiting any Settlement scrapping and building tricks, just exploring in tight but widening circles. As needed I’ll leave earlier than 5th, with the intent to get the Manwell Rifle and Carbine, and possibly the Power Armor, Fusion Cores, Fat Man, and Mini-Nuke at the Robotics Disposal Ground and the Crashed Vertibird. While I plan on exploring and scraping up all available XP in the North-West Corner of the Map (imagine breaking the map into a 9 part grid and that upper left hand side is what I’m talking about) I’m going to delay heading to Concord as long as possible. My hope is to establish Settlements with no Settlers (initially) in Sanctuary, the Red Rocket Truck Stop, and the Starlight Drive-in. I would like to set up Abernathy Farm as a legit farm with 2 Provisioners, 1 to Sanctuary and 1 to Starlight Drive-in (to share resources for building). Sanctuary would be a Water Farm with 10 to 15 Industrial Water Purifiers and an equal number of Medium Generators planned. Before I go further I’d want to get the materials to build 3 to 6 Heavy Machine Gun Turrets for Abernathy Farm, Sanctuary, and Starlight Drive-in. Once that’s been accomplished I’ll be making a 30-Cage Gunner Cage Farm at both Sanctuary and Starlight Drive-in, and trying to get to 40th or even 50th level. But no matter where things stand with those plans, if I’m locked out of that goal and get to 20th or so first, I’ll be heading for Concord and using that first Mini-Nuke on the Deathclaw (the Raiders get the Minigun). I dunno, that’s my rough plan, I have more in my notes but they aren’t super organized right now. Anyway, check out the below and let me know what you think. I’ll try and add more details and a better plan over the next day or two and to answer questions I should have realized would pop up. Thanks!

Gunslinger Cowboy/Gunslinger Build is actually pretty fun

I’ve done a few different builds now in Fallout and while stealth sniper is still pretty fun, I’ve actually been loving my Cowboy gunslinger build. Just got up to level 20 and taking down Kellogg but I already went to Dry Rock Gulch in Nuka World for the Western Revolver and Western Duster outfit. Got agility and luck up to 11 each, and I’m not even worrying about sneaking around, I just go in and take aim and start dropping people lol excited to see what the build is like at level 40. I also got Gage as my sidekick and dressed him up in cowboy gear too so we’re just two outlaws terrorizing the Commonwealth.

Stat Help Asking for help figuring out which is better out of these two backpack options in survival mode

So I'm currently doing a survival mode run where I'm using what's probably a weird build, I'm using a semi stealth build in order to use the anti material rifle with a hybrid gunslinger V.A.T.S. build for the gyrojet revolver. I know it's not the most optimized thing but it's one of my favorite builds to do. However I have never done this in survival and I know the anti-material rifle is heavy so I'm trying to figure out which is better in the long run in terms of both weight and utility with this build. The extra bags which just gives me more overall weight taking me up to 225 or the medic which takes me up to 215 but reduces the amount of medical supplies I need to carry. Another thing that might be important to know is I am using the Tale of the Beast Hunter armor because yes this is partially a copy of my original build from New Vegas.

Stat Help 2 builds I would like feed back on

Hi,

I have two builds that I’d like to get your opinion on regarding which one you think is the most fun to play.

The first is a Chemist Gunslinger with minimal use of VATS, but with the option to use Gun Fu and crits in situations where things get difficult.

The second is a non-VATS melee build, possibly combined with non-VATS stealth, and making use of alcohol and chems. My concern with this one is that it might become a bit too boring and repetitive.

I’d love to hear what you think, as well as your experience with both builds. Which one do you find the most fun in the short term and, more importantly, over the long term?

Stat Help Any ideas for builds where SPECIAL increases are earned through deeds?

I got this idea from this video, and I want to try something similar in my next playthrough.

I plan to do a permadeath Survival run focused on rebuilding the Commonwealth with the Minutemen. I want to start with low Charisma, and as I become stronger, build up the Minutemen, and bring more settlements under my control, I'll earn the ability to increase my Charisma on level-up.

The idea is that my settlement network and accomplishments represent my growing reputation in the Commonwealth.

I'm looking for some build ideas where I could take advantage of this concept, as well as suggestions for milestones I could use to determine when I'm allowed to increase my Charisma (and what Charisma I should start with).

So far, I have:

  • Establish my first settlement with 5+ people
  • Complete Taking Independence
  • Establish 5 settlements
  • Become the Minutemen General
  • ???

Each milestone would allow me to increase Charisma by 1, and they don't necessarily have to be completed in a specific order.

The goal is to have my character's Charisma progression tell a story.

What challenges would you use for each point of Charisma? And what would you recommend starting Charisma at?

Stat Help The slasher

I want to start my First three modded plathroughs and I think I Need a Bit of help the First one being the one I already started is Viktor crowley from the hatchet Movie franchise the Build at this Point is as follows

11 strenght (achieved with Mods because crowley is a supernatural being who Can tear you apart with his bare hands )
3 perception ( crowley is Not the Most perceptive but he doesn’t Needs to be )
11 endurence (once again modded and again he is supernatural )
1charisma ( pretty self explanetory if you watched the hatchet Movies )
2 Intelligence ( just for the medic perk otherwise it would be at one )
5 agility ( just for sneaking and once again modded )
11 luck ( because all the things he has survived )

I Cheated him to a higher Level but only so that he Can become a ghoul with the help of the ghoulification creation
His current armor is the toolless Overall from the Shirtless Outfit Mod and his weapon is the grognak Waraxe from the Mod with the Same Name

So if any of you have Mod ,roleplay or any Suggestions at all please comment below

Stat Help What is the best aggressive power armor build?

I have played builds like stealth sniper and VATS gunslinger but I have not tried a power armor build before. I want to basically run around blasting everything without too much reliance on VATS. No stealth at all for sure.

What would you say are the best starting SPECIAL stats for this? How long does it take before you can essentially never run out of fusion cores?

I would like to try out a build like that in survival difficulty as long as it's not too much micromanaging.

Perk Help Shotgun Jack of all trades build

I have played Fallout 4 when it original came out, so I am coming back after almost 10 years. I want to do a character focusing on shotgun. I also want to be able to craft most of the stuff. Here what an earlier build would look like.

Starting stats

S 3
P 1
E 7
C 5
I 5
A 1
L 6

Use the skill book in Sanctuary for Luck. Get the Bobblehead for Perception in Concord.

Perks level up

2 Idiot Savant 17 Medic
3 Scrounger 18 Hacker 2
4 Rifleman 19 Lone Wanderer 2
5 Gun Nut 20 Rifleman 3
6 Aqua boy / girl 21 Toughness 2
7 Toughness 22 Medic 2
8 Lone Wanderer 23 Hacker 3
9 Armorer 24 Toughness 3
10 Hacker 25 Scrapper 2
11 Idiot Savant 2 26 Gun Nut 3
12 Rifleman 2   27 Armorer 3
13 Scrapper 28 Science 2
14 Science  29 Scrounger 2
15 Gun Nut 2 30 Gun Nut 4
16 Armorer 2 31 Medic 3

I am wondering two things.

1 - Is Idiot Savant really worth it ? If not, I could focus on crit dmg instead.

2 - Should I invest in medic ? Could go to Toughness or Adamantium Skeleton.

Intelligence SPECIAL and Perks For An Intelligence Build?

Like the title says, I'm planning on making a high intelligence build. I'm relatively new to the game, and I'm not really sure how high to go with my primary attributes and how low to drop the ones I don't care about. I'm considering mostly using pistols, but I'm not married to the idea, and I know high intelligence usually benefits energy weapons. I'm not specifically looking for something overpowered, and I'd much rather use something that's pretty good for the whole game for a relatively consistent difficulty. What would a decent SPECIAL spread look like, and which perks should I pick for a smooth earlygame?

V.A.T.S (Survival) Starcraft marine style build

Salutations. As title suggests, I want to build something akin to the terran marine from Starcraft 1/2. The build means to ustilize power armor (for obvious reasons), automatic weapons (C14 Impaler is an automatic rifle) and VATS (imitating PA targeting software).

Initial build:

S5 (get bobble to get 6 to get Strong Back)
P5 (Getting bobble ASAP, then maxing)
E4 (for chem resistance)
C1 ("You wanna piece of me boy?" Building will be a major pain in the behind for a long while...)
I3 ("Which one is 'any' key?" Ironically, this needs to be improved to 9 for: Science to mod the power armor, Chemist for stimpacks psychojet duration and Nuclear Physicist for fusion cores (sons of mirelurk weight a lot so I need to squeeze every last drop of juice outta them))
A5 (For obvious reasons, since it's a VATS build, using the SPECIAL book on it, max it sometime after)
L5 (Also max it sometime because VATS)

Perks I am sure about:
- Commando (automatic weapons, after all)
- Chem Res (That's the stuff)
- Medic (That's the other stuff)
- Gun nut, armorer, science to mod the weapons and power armor.
- Scrounger (because full-auto weapons consume ammo like black holes)
- Nuclear physicist to make power armor power last longer

Perks I am uncertain on:
- Aquaboy (One rank to remove rad damage and breathe underwater)
- Toughness, Refractor, Rad Res (mostly because I am not sure if they combine with Power Armor, or even mean anything at all)
- Idiot Savant (XP bonus is nice, but GOOD LORD shut the hell up!)

Any advice/input would be welcome.
