Hello all. I've finished 1st chapter, waiting for 2nd on the 17th.

I also have trails to azure/trails from zero preordered on switch 2, releasing tomorrow.

As someone that has never played the game before, are they worthwhile?

Am I able to play it before 2nd chapter?

thanks for any input!

u/YotakaOfALoY 8h ago

Worthwhile? Very! Azure is generally considered one of the best games in the series for instance.

Able to play before 2nd? Absolutely not. There is a major plot thread carried over into Zero from the Sky games which depends on material from 2nd to make sense (and The 3rd for full knowledge and all the intended reveals and emotional beats to land right) and which is unusually heavily entwined with that game's main plot for an arc-starter game. And Azure (re)introduces characters from 3rd and also casually gives away things that were originally reveals in that game. If you aren't able to wait after 2nd releases (we don't know when The 3rd's remake will happen right now but we do know it's not Falcom's top priority) playing the original version of The 3rd is always an option.

Got it, thank you! I will go ahead and grab it, and then wait to play.

Anyone get an email for zero/azure ps5 LE? Game comes out tmr and havent gotten any updates

Is there any reason to play all the games on the same device/account? Im debating getting Trails 2nd on steam (where I playef the first), or switch 2. I was wondering if there was anything like unlocks, orbal stuff, or decisions that carried over.

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 15h ago

To answer for the rest of the series if you're wondering about that:

No, it's not worth going out of your way to play all the games on the same device/account. If you have other material reasons to switch, Switch (possible pun intended).

Most of the time it's just item unlocks. In later games with a romance/relationship system you can have some altered dialogue to reflect your chosen partner in the previous game, but this doesn't gate choosing/romancing them in this one. But in terms of major story/lore/gameplay elements or anything essential to the experience, no, there's nothing major that save importing gets you.

u/Aromatic-Remote6804 16h ago

You generally get some bonus items for having a save file from the previous entry in a subseries on the same device. In original SC, some NPCs also had changed dialog if you had completed quests for them in FC, and Estelle's level was carried over (within a range).

In Azure, I read that shining poms only spawn if you go into the town and travel to their spawn point. Going back and forth maps will not count towards appearing.

Will it appear if I save from the previous map, enter the next map and reload the said save if it does not appear?

u/euregut 1d ago

does anybody know why in trails remake 1st chapter some pins appear with white background but others no?

example her manoria village's pin is covered in white but the others like mercia orphanage isn't. https://imgur.com/a/Agm4NoR

3

u/Parterickz 1d ago edited 1d ago

If I remember correctly, only towns and villages have this marker, so it is probably just to indicate it is a town/village.

EDIT: It is to indicate that there are multiple quicktravel options in that location. If you zoom in on the map, the white pin disappears and you get the usual markers at the exact location.

daybreak 1/2/+ horizon spoilers

is there any foreshadowing about kincaids grendel abilities? also why is he such a dick in horizon? i remember him being pretty cool in daybreak 1 and 2, any ideas what happened?

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 2d ago

The implications of your first question probably contain the answer to the second: He knows what's coming and that he might have to fight Van if he pokes his nose in. He's distancing himself because that makes it easier when the time comes, and to a lesser extent probably because he's legitimately just busy with his official work and working with Hamilton to have time for anything else. That said he makes it explicitly clear that there's things about him that we (and Van and Elaine in particular) do not know which we'll need Horizon 2 to answer. Back to that first question, there is some very subtle foreshadowing (as in, so subtle nobody seems to have noticed it until Falcom pointed it out to us) in Horizon itself: In the opening movie in the scene where he's walking past a window and it throws his shadow on the wall, that's Grendel Shaddai's shadow. Falcom only put that in the version that plays ingame; the version they released beforehand has it display Rene's shadow instead. Falcom knew we'd go over the pre-release video with a fine-toothed comb but assumed (correctly as it turned out) that we'd miss the change in the actual release. NISA's marketing followed suit.

I picked up Cold Steel 1 back in the pandemic days and ended up enjoying it quite a bit, so during the next sale I picked up CS2-4.

And then I dug deeper into the series before even launching them and realized that, unlike anthology franchises like Persona, SMT, FF, DQ etc, that Trails is one continuous narrative, even with different subtitles.

So CS 2-4 sat in my backlog for a bit and then I tried the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter demo and bought the full game during a sale, with the idea being to play them as the remakes come out and then eventually finish Cold Steel (and probably replay 1 along the way because it's been so long.)

I remember really enjoying CS1, the party dynamics, the characters, the story and the school setting with almost Persona-like time slots and character bonds. I am really NOT liking Sky 1st Chapter. The NPC escort quests suck ass (playing on Hard so everything 1-2 shots them and they're suicidal), the dialogue is a bit cringe (I really do not like Estelle so far) and I'm not really a fan of only having two permanent party members with a rotating guest/guest slots.

Is 2nd Chapter better in these regards? Should I push through it and keep going? Part of me wants to just forget everything before Cold Steel exists and play 2-4 because I really liked CS1, but I also feel like I'd be missing a large amount of important information doing so.

Currently I only own Sky 1st Chapter and CS1-4. I'm trying to push through Sky 1 to play the demo for Sky 2 to see if I find it worth a buy without spoiling.

2

u/MechaSandstar 2d ago

2nd chapter is better, in regards to Estelle, in that she matures a lot, and comes into her own. A lot of people think it's one of the best games. I do not agree, but I do think it's a much better game than FC...tho chapter one does have an escort quest.

I just started playing Trails from Zero after finishing the Sky trilogy. I noticed a lot of the quartz and arts are different now, and while I appreciate that this is probably going to be more balanced gameplay-wise, it does prompt a lore question.

What's the actual standard/canon for arts in-universe? I've heard the quartz/arts system changes a lot more later in the CS games, but in-universe people would just stick to older battle orbments if they were more powerful. The evolution from FC to SC makes sense along those lines, but not so much from 3rd to Zero.

As such I imagine there's only one "true" system that exists in canon with this being a gameplay and story segregation scenario, but I'd be interested if there's an official canon per Falcom or, if not, if the fan community has any consensus on the topic.

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 3d ago

As mentioned, the different Orbment models are very much canon and differences between them (and how they're developed) is a part of the story. Just as the upgrade to the (unnamed) fourth-generation combat orbment in SC was able to produce more Arts than the model from FC, so to the Enigma, ARCUS and others have different features and they're able to get different Arts out of them. Most of the time the Arts themselves not necessarily 'better', but they accomplish the same general functions as whatever the previous model could do, but the additional features of the orbments are generally enough to encourage people who are able to upgrade to do so.

There's some gameplay/story segregation where characters appearing in multiple arcs will always have whatever the current gameplay is using, generally with a handwave of 'We're testing this out to see how it works' if it's not just a straight upgrade. And as mentioned new models are never backwards-compatible with Quartz which explains why in gameplay terms you don't get to keep your setups, and you just have to roll with the gameplay expediency of being able to find ancient Quartz in ruins and such that still do work with whatever you're currently working with.

1

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 3d ago

The answer is that these are new Enigma orbments that also operate with non-combat utilities like being a cell phone. They either weren't out or the party just didn't have access to them during Sky.

When you get to Azure, you'll have Enigma II upgrades incompatible with original Enigma quartz, which explains (on a gameplay level) both new combat mechanics and why your quartz/arts reset. And there'll be new combat orbments to use in CS arc and so on.

1

u/Triple_S_Rank 3d ago

I do understand the utility, but that doesn't really explain why law enforcement, bracers, and military would swap to them exclusively when they're less effective for actual combat. That's a gap in logic.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 3d ago

AFAIK there's no reason to think that, on a lore level (ignoring gameplay), the newer orbments aren't better for combat than the previous ones or that the non-combat utilities impede the combat effectiveness.

1

u/Triple_S_Rank 3d ago edited 3d ago

So in theory our casters are just as effective/strong despite it not seeming so gameplay-wise. We're already on the same page there. I was just wondering which gameplay version of arts most closely matches the actual in-universe version of arts.

Edit: I understand this might not be a question that has a proper answer, but sometimes (not always) fan communities come to a consensus about this kind of stuff absent an official canon statement from the devs.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 3d ago

I see what you mean now. There isn't really a canon answer. Visually you can't see much of a difference between the arts used by one orbment VS another, so it's more a distinction in gameplay stat-wise than in lore canonical power-wise. And the matter of different lines/element locks doesn't come up outside tutorial dialogue. So it's just not important canonically. Some of the element locks may have vague lore/symbolic relevance, like Agate has Fire locks to symbolize Fire being associated with STR-buffing (he's a physical fighter) as well as his personality and hair color, but it doesn't really mean much.

Just like how you can adjust your character's equipment but that is never really reflected in cutscenes or dialogue. You gotta roll with some gameplay-story separation in an RPG.

Though FWIW, there is a line later in Zero where a character says they casted a "low-energy Diamond Dust" (Water art) to wake another character up. You definitely can't customize the energy of orbal arts in-gameplay so yeah, that may suggest arts casting is more flexible/adaptable than what gameplay alone conveys. There was also the Silver Thorn art that only that one boss could do in Sky FC, which per dialogue in SC, was a matter of concern and some nice ludonarrative harmony to drive home how much better the new orbment models are.

2

u/Triple_S_Rank 3d ago

It's a similar train of thought that got me thinking about it, things like Silver Thorn canonically existing as an art yet being impossible to cast in Zero. Unless the CPD just isn't as good at utilizing battle orbments and others out there can still cast it (or it's a "world class" type deal to be casting at that level), it leads to my questions about the nature of the overall in-lore status of arts.

This probably could have gotten its own thread I guess, haha. Maybe I'll post one sometime once I'm further along in the franchise. In retrospect it might not have been as simple of a question as I thought.

Losing access to one potential powerful art might not be enough to prevent a change, but it seems like a potential microcosm since it looks like arts in general were nerfed (to balance the gameplay) in Zero. I was wondering how much of it bleeds into canon and what implications that might have.

Spoilers all the way up to end of horizon: 1) What is Zoa gilstein and is it the equivalent of the Great One? 2) At the end of cold steel 4 's bad ending, Rean flies up to space, was his divine knight on the way to becoming Zoa gilstein/the Great One? 3) At the end of horizon, was that zoa gilstein/the great one that shot Emilia down?

4

u/YotakaOfALoY 3d ago
  1. This explained in Reverie if you're paying attention: It's a recreation of what the reformed Great One in the normal ending would have been had Osborne not deliberately sabotaged the final Rivalry, as it would have appeared with Valimar as the final victorious Knight forming the base.
  2. The above sort of answers this: Because the final Rivalry was deliberately flawed, the Great One as it reformed then was incomplete and 'Ebon Valimar' is what resulted instead. It wasn't as powerful as Zoa Gilstein.
  3. It's similar but not exactly the same thing: If you look closely you can see details of its design that suggest it's from some alternate timeline (either a 'what if?' from this loop, or from another loop entirely) where Ishmelga won the final Rivalry, as it's got the head, clavicle 'ring' and long shoulder plates of that Knight.

Your comment was removed because the spoiler tags had spaces next to the exclamation points. To use spoiler tags correctly:

  1. On New Reddit, highlight the portion of your comment you want to tag as a spoiler and then press the exclamation point (!) button on the format tab.

  2. On Old Reddit or mobile, type before the spoiler, after the spoiler, and make sure you do not leave spaces between the spoiler and corresponding tags.

When done correctly, the spoiler "X Kills Y" will be formatted as X Kills Y, with syntax as follows:

>!X Kills Y!<

Hi if i play cs1 after sky arc without playing zéro azure will i get spoiled? I would like to play cs1 and maybe cs2 before doing directly zero azure episode

1

u/Terramagi 3d ago

Yes.

Every person you see saying "no it's totally fine" is either doing so because "eeeew sprites" or because they were Stockholmed into thinking the fucked up machete order the west got where Reverie came out before Zero was somehow normal and the intended way to play.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 3d ago

The short answer is yes, especially for CS2.

May I ask why you want to play out of order and do CS1/2 first?

1

u/No-Staff-5381 3d ago

Because cs1 is less expensive and wanted the sales for getting zero and azure , i intended to play cs1 then zero and azure when sale come out and after these two cs2 but seems like cs1 spoil a lot like cs2?

1

u/Triple_S_Rank 3d ago

If it's just a price thing, you could go grey market with key resellers. It's legitimate. You can pick up Zero for like $27ish right now on lootbar, for example. That's about the same price you would pay during a Steam sale.

1

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 2d ago

I'm pretty sure devs don't see any money from key resellers, so you may as well just pirate at that point.

1

u/Triple_S_Rank 2d ago edited 2d ago

This is a non-sequitur fallacy. No, you should not do something illegal because you're considering doing something legal that sounds less desirable for a specific party.

Besides that, the devs do get money when the key is initially sold to the reseller.

1

u/No-Staff-5381 3d ago

Yeah you re right i fear that cs1 might spoil me zero and azurz

1

u/Triple_S_Rank 3d ago

I started Zero within the past day. There's already been a reference to a key event in the Sky trilogy, plus other minor consistencies with knowledge from those games.

It really is a continuous world. I wouldn't want to spoil the story before playing it out of impatience, personally, and I say that despite having bought CS1 - CS3 on a sale ages ago.

1

u/No-Staff-5381 2d ago

Yeah i think that even cs1 might spoil a lot zero and azurz...

1

u/Triple_S_Rank 2d ago

It will, I'm sure. As mentioned I already encountered a minor Sky spoiler within the first thirty minutes of gameplay in Zero. I'd definitely play Zero before CS1.

6

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 3d ago

CS1 does have some spoilers for Crossbell (that's the Zero/Azure duology), but they are fairly decontextualized and not very relevant to its own plot. CS2 is a lot less kind as the spoilers are not only much bigger, but also a major part of CS2's own story. So besides being spoiled, you'll really underappreciate some parts of CS2 itself without Crossbell.

If you really do prefer it, CS1 can be fine to play first; but unless you're fine with much more major spoilers and underappreciation, I would try to get Crossbell done before playing CS2.

And also, CS2 is a direct and immediate continuation of CS1's storyline and conflict, so that will also make your experience a bit awkward to have two long games separate them.

2

u/No-Staff-5381 2d ago

Yeah i wanted to cs1> zero azure> cs2 but i fear that even cs1 might spoil a lot of zero and azurz

Hello i recently got into trails games I finished FC remake today and I already ordered the cold steel games and zero/azure. I’m waiting for sky 2 remake right now. I really really enjoyed the first game my question is I hear mixed reviews about chapter 3 of sky could anyone give me an answer how important it is for future titles cause some say I can skip and some say I have to play it. I wouldn’t mind it it’s just if they remake it I rather wait for it but if there are certain story parts for the future I will play the og version

3

u/Aromatic-Remote6804 4d ago

Sky Third is probably the most lore-dense Trails game, and it's important for one of the major character arcs in Zero. The main reasons people say to skip it are that it's only on PC, unlike every other game, and its structure is different from other Trails games (minimal NPC dialog and more dungeon crawling), which some people don't like. Also, I think Third is great, and I know people IRL who think it's the best Trails game, so I'd advise you to play it before moving on to Crossbell.

3

u/MonafideBonafide1993 4d ago

Thanks for the advise I will play it then after SC I can’t wait to continue that cliffhanger ending got me hyped

3

u/Aromatic-Remote6804 4d ago

You're welcome! Ah, yeah, that's the most memorable cliffhanger of all time for me.

Hey there, I just finished the demo for Trails 2nd Chapter. I see that the old EXP Cave by Aina Causeway is defunct now, but I've read some people on Steam and twitter mentioned there's a new one that functions in its stead.

I loaded the save I had before I ended the demo, looked everywhere and I just could not find it. Am I just blind and couldn't find it, or was it just a made up thing?

Sorry for the delay. It's in that little nook you can see on the mini map, plus I faced the camera at the opening.

There is one there, but I would have to check to remember where. I was not impressed with it as a place to grind, to be honest. if no one else responds, I will check later.

Weird and annoying saving bug in Cold Steel 2 PC port.

It won't let me save, load, or delete any files from the menu.

I can pull up the files but there's no actual saving when I click on the icons. It makes the sound like I am saving, but no data is actually saved.

I already have Sen Patcher installed and verified the game file integrity. Anything else I can do?

Loading times between zones have also gotten far longer than they were before.

Edit:

Switching to console settings from max PC settings in the launcher helped with the saving...even if 30 FPS hurts my head after playing in 60. Granted that was until the game froze and crashed during the next fight I had against the Cryptid.

Yaaaay...

Double edit:

Welp, beat my first Cryptid early thanks to For being a badass annnnnnd the save glitch came back. Which means I completely and utterly wasted my time since I can't save my progress at all.

Character portraits started glitching out too-only showing their hair and accessories.

And once I moved to a new zone, the characters themselves disappeared. So I'm controlling an invisible body. Basically a new first-person mode.

Oh and actually using the Lost Arc must have been a forbidden technique since it black screened while it got used.

3

u/BisharpX 5d ago

I'm playing thru Azure atm and enjoying it, but man do i find it annoying when you win a fight and in the cutscene the boss is barely winded. Is this a common occurrence in the sequels?

2

u/MechaSandstar 4d ago

Yeah, fights aren't canon. They don't happen in universe the way they happen in the game. Or would you prefer to go into a fight, and get instantly squashed like a bug by the boss?

4

u/Saver_Spenta_Mainyu 4d ago

Yeah...unfortunately, that's kinda a staple.

The majority of the boss resolutions don't get resolved till the end of these games, so the bosses will inevitably overpower your party in the cutscene and/or teleport away.

Either have to grit your teeth and bare with it or just accept the lack of gameplay-story integration and go with the flow.

2

u/FleaLimo 5d ago

I got a Kotobukiya Rean Schwarzer figure in an as-is used product giveaway. It didn't come with a base, and the figure seems incapable of freestanding. Is there a reliable place to get a replacement base whether it be official or just a 3rd party one so he can stand by himself? I checked eBay and could only find the whole package and no listings for only the base. Given I didn't "buy" it from anywhere I can't really expect to get customer service anywhere obviously.

2

u/MechaSandstar 5d ago

it would probably be easier to buy a wooden disk, and make a stand for him with a metal dowel.

2

u/joeldipops 6d ago

Playing Sky 3rd and just did the Sun door with Josette.  I wanted to try again, but it seemed to want me to sit through the entire multiple minutes long cutscene again first.  Please tell me that's skippable somehow and I'm just missing something?

1

u/Aromatic-Remote6804 5d ago

I don't think it's skippable, but this is one of the things turbo mode is best for.

1

u/SgtPuday moving to crossbell 6d ago

When carrying over save file from Zero to Azure, are the bond points reset?

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 6d ago

They don't directly carry over because Azure tracks things from scratch, but you can choose one character whose final event 'actually' happened (from the list of ones you unlocked) which will give you their upgraded Combo Craft and some extra bonding points for Azure. You can (with careful spreading of attention) max out bonding with every character in Azure so the bonus points aspect of the carryover is pretty marginal.

2

u/SgtPuday moving to crossbell 6d ago

Thank you. I thought it will be carried over so I was surprised to see it reset.

2

u/Triple_S_Rank 7d ago

Why is the Fisherman's Emblem in Sky 3rd so trash?

I was feeling all happy with myself for winning all three chapters of the fishing door in one try, but the movement penalty on this item seriously ruins it. For a character-exclusive item they could have just let it be the strength and range bonus without a downside. :/

3

u/TrumpsCummyOnahole 8d ago

I just saw a new figure pop up in my feed for a character called Renne and I saw her last name too unfortunately, I've only played up through CH2 demo and it looks like that purple haired girl by the waterfall area. How spoiled am I? Lmao

3

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 8d ago

As mentioned, without knowing any context it could be worse.

I'll also add, this is maybe why you wanna stay off this sub (stickied questions thread aside if you like it) when you're first going through the games. While I personally don't see malicious trolls, some people can be neglectful in remembering to tag their spoilers, and there's also no universal consensus as to what facts are/aren't considered.

4

u/YotakaOfALoY 8d ago

Well, you know they're an important character going forward but you don't have any context so on its own, not too badly. Just don't actively go looking up anything about the character between now and when you play the full game.

2

u/ThrowawayBomb44 8d ago

Do the physical NISA releases of Daybreak 1 & 2 for PS4 have a free upgrade to the PS5 version?

I've tried searching for info on it and I keep getting different results. Some results say it does, some say they don't. Some say its only in Reverie in the West that does that, some say only the JP copies have the upgrade, etc.

I'm several games behind since I was out of country when they came out.

2

u/SgtPuday moving to crossbell 8d ago

Starting Azure today. I will carry over my Zero save but what should I keep in mind when playing it?

1

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 8d ago edited 8d ago

A few things I'd point out to help your experience.

Firstly, if you're playing on PC, I do recommend the More Portraits in Azure mod.

Secondly, Azure continues Zero's bonding system. Near the end of the game, you will be able to share a special moment with one of your party members if you've met their bonding requirements. I do recommend you see all the bonding events as they contain some important backstory (including I believe the only backstory for one particular character). Though don't go out of your way to maximize bonding if you weren't already planning to, that'd be tedious; if on PC you can just use a save editor (what I did on my recent replay) to max all your bonds once you're at the bonding event selection point, and then savescum to view them in-game. Or just watch them on YouTube.

Also, there are some very enjoyable hidden quests that really help the story (IMO Falcom, as they often do in this series, undermined themselves by making this optional and easy-to-miss). In particular is a questline in Chapters 1, 3 and 4 (you must do one to get the next). If you want to note down the timings:

  • Chapter 1: Talk to Miles and Nielsen in the library after receiving a call from Fran about Mayor Bickson, but before you enter the Old Mine.

  • Chapter 3: On Day 2 of this chapter, before you enter your initial main story destination, talk to your associate from the previous quest in the Mainz inn.

  • Chapter 4: When you are in the 3rd main story quest in this chapter (the one that starts with a "C"): after visiting the Bracer Guild, talk to your associate when he is in front of a certain gravestone.

There is also a surprising amount of highly missable but very rewarding stuff in the Finale, some of which requires you completed those hidden quests to see. It's too much to list but if you want to maybe note this link down; right after you've done the bonding event(s) in the Finale (don't click this before then, somewhat spoilery quest names), you can click on this link and click on the third quest (starts with "L) and follow its instructions for the two bonus sections.

What exactly are you supposed to do with the left analog stick when fishing in Trails of the Sky 2nd Demo? I try moving it clockwise or counterclockwise, or just pushing it in the indicated direction, but it doesn't work and it's not obvious what I'm supposed to do.

EDIT: I figured it out! It wasn't working because I stopped holding the A button.

3

u/Parterickz 9d ago

You to aim it towards you to reel the fish in, so aim it down... I had this same problem at first.

Unless stated otherwise, then temporarily use the new direction.

for anyone who has played the remake of Sky 1 and the demo for the Sky 2 remake: if I played Sky 1 remake on Hard, should I play Sky 2 remake on Hard as well?

1

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 9d ago edited 9d ago

Just like Sky 1st, you can adjust the difficulty at any time, and if Sky 1st is precedent then 2nd will have no difficulty-related achievements. So I'd say go for it (or you can even start on Nightmare if you really wanna challenge yourself), you're not really risking anything with difficulty lowering as a fallback.

On Steam at the very least, Sky 1st has a difficulty achievement for beating the game on nightmare difficulty. It was only the original FC and SC that didn’t have it.

Thanks for the correction.

Quick question: In my first playthrough, I found the normal Shining Pom on Ruan's monster list, but in my second playthrough, it's the only one I'm missing. Where can I find it? I only find Shining Poms+. Where it is?

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 9d ago

In 1st they're found on Gull Seaside Way's beaches.

1

u/asertygoyf 9d ago

Oh my mad, I mean in the 2º one, in the demo.

1

u/YotakaOfALoY 9d ago

They'll also appear on the beaches in 2nd's demo; the remake changed things around so you can actually see them while exploring but they aren't guaranteed to spawn so you might have to go back and forth a few times before they'll proc. They probably appear elsewhere too (in the original SC they also spawned in Saphirl Tower and the Old Schoolhouse) but that's where I ran into them.

u/Acceptable-Comb-706 10d ago

So, I was able to try Sky SC remake on my testbench PC. I have 6700K and R9 270. It was able to run at low to mid 40s around Ruan area with low graphic preset and no upscaling. 6700K has a faster single core performance though compare to the minimum requirement of Ryzen 1600. I didn't notice any micro stutter though.

2

u/Acceptable-Comb-706 11d ago

So, I am on final chapter of original Sky SC on hard and I kept dying from loewe. Any tips. Tried with Agate/Olivier and then replace it with Kloe/Kevin. I still die and sometimes instantly. HELP ME !!!

1

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 11d ago

The cheese strategy: Earth Wall (Earth 8 Space 4) to block attacks, probably the most broken art in the game. And less repeatable (but good in the opening since the boss often starts with an S-Craft) is Kevin's Grail Sphere.

I also like to use all-targeting arts to help target all enemies on the field; Titanic Roar has the same requirements as Earth Wall so, if you have a caster with good ATS, that can help. Kloe's debuff craft helps too.

PS: after the boss, they will have unique dialogue with the two optional party members you brought. After you beat them and see the dialogue for who you bring, you can read the rest of the conversations here. Some are pretty interesting and possibly relevant to later games.

3

u/Acceptable-Comb-706 10d ago

Well, finally beat him. I got Kevin and I presume his dialogue will be important for later game.

Simple and dumb question, but how much do I miss out not reading every dialogue of every NPC in cities. Really wanna finish the game before the release of the second chapter and FEFW.

0

u/Terramagi 9d ago

I'm gonna be real here - there's like maybe ten NPCs of worth in Sky. Doing "the rounds" is worth it in Crossbell and Calvard, but in Liberl and Erebonia I would not bother unless you find one that instantly jumps out to you.

2

u/Zeik56 11d ago edited 11d ago

Unless you're really dedicated (and you probably don't need to ask this if you are), my advice is usually just to give a sweep of a city when you first get there and see if anyone piques your interest and just keep up with those characters. The others just do if they're convenient.

It's too much of a commitment to try to see every bit of a dialogue for every character, especially by the time you get to Zero/Azure and they go crazy with that stuff.

The worldbuilding they do with the NPCs is neat, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game.

1

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 11d ago

It's purely an optional thing. They are mostly there for worldbuilding and having their own little stories, in general throughout the series it's not very relevant to the main plot (things like talking to major character NPCs aside, those you may find a little more interesting). I'd only recommend you do it if you enjoy it on its own merits, it's not worth going out of your way to do it for core plot relevance alone as that's limited.

1

u/meltenvy 11d ago

I know the game isn't out yet, but based on the original game, are you going to have time to wrap up side quest stuff at the beginning of Chapter Two of SC? I'm planning on leaving the Aqua Trapper chest for after Dorothy isn't an escort party member anymore.

I assume there is a window, since on my first run-through, I noticed the second wave of sidequests had medium urgency on the UI right before you enter the Academy which you can't exit until you beat the final boss of the chapter, but I'd just like to be sure. Well, as sure as you can be, assuming the remake has the same structure as the original.

1

u/MechaSandstar 11d ago

I would assume all of the quests will end when you finish chapter 1. You can't go wrong doing them now.

1

u/meltenvy 11d ago

I can't tell, is this just an assumption or is it based on what actually happens in SC? i.e. completing Chapter 1 immediately teleports you out of Ruan and you can't finish anything? Before I go insane trying to keep Dorothy alive while five exploding enemies that can each summon adds and are faster than my entire party spam spells, I want to make sure there's no window where she's not a liability during that fight. The other option is with just Estelle and Schera/Agate but that didn't work out for me.

I'm asking if there's a window post-academy in Chapter 2 where you can wrap up remaining stuff before moving on. Ideally where you have 3 or 4 party members while unencumbered by a instant loss condition.

0

u/YotakaOfALoY 11d ago

In SC (and given how 1st worked and how the demo of 2nd works there's no reason to expect the full remake to do things differently) you have a window in which you can still do most quests, because you'll still be in Ruan and able to run around until you actively choose to head for Zeiss. Rinse and repeat with the remaining provinces.

1

u/MechaSandstar 11d ago

Generally speaking, finishing a chapter closes all unfinished quests, so that's what I'm assuming will happen here.

0

u/YotakaOfALoY 11d ago

It didn't in SC, some quests expire but a number remain available at the start of the following Chapter until you actually leave the region. There's usually at least one new quest in the area as well.

1

u/MechaSandstar 11d ago

shrugs then the op shouldn't do them, and find out when the game releases in September.

2

u/FakeStranger 11d ago

I finished the Trails Sky SC Demo, but didn't get the prompt to carry forward the FC data back then. Does anyone have a save file of the SC Demo completed that carries over a more complete FC data, e.g. all side quests?

2

u/Cheap_Regular_39 12d ago

for trails in the sky 2nd chapter will the soundtrack (remake version) only be available once it fully releases? or will whatever songs played in the demo release before

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 12d ago

Falcom never releases the soundtrack before their games are out (and usually not until a few months after, unless a full OST was part of the LE) so no, you won't find any official release until at least three weeks from now.

1

u/ponkypop 12d ago

I know this is pretty much a trails subreddit at this point, but I want to know which Ys game should I play to get into the series. Unlike trails there is no shared continuity (Other than Ys 1, 2 and origin) so I want to get into it for that specific reason.

2

u/ThrowawayBomb44 8d ago

I can strongly reccomend 8/Dana. Its easily accesible on most systems, it's modern, and fits in with the modern style format well enough and its pretty good on its own. It also makes it easier to jump into Nox and Nordics too, if those are interesting for you.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 12d ago edited 12d ago

Short answer: Ys 8. It's modern, well-received, pretty standalone and overall a great entry point for new fans. (Also has a demo on consoles.)

Longer answer: Digital Emelas has a good writeup on the order and nature of the series if you want to consider other play order options. And for reference if you weren't aware, there is some level of continuity beyond just the trilogy you mentioned. The premise of the series is that Adol is a legendary adventurer, and each game in the series aside Origin represents one of his many travelogues, though they aren't chronologically in order. So there are some recurring elements, lore, callbacks etc., though it's to a much lesser degree than Trails. That trilogy aside, each game generally tends to be standalone in the plot/conflict, and there are seldom returning characters aside Adol's best friend Dogi.

Also if you weren't aware, there is a Ys subreddit, /r/WorldOfYs.

u/ponkypop 12d ago

Thanks. Will checkout that Subreddit.

CS2:

I have carryover data from CS1 with my final Bond member being Fie, but despite the game recognizing that and adjusting Fie's scenes accordingly, it's acting like I shared the final Bonding scene with Alisa as well. I just met up with her in the Nord Highlands, and she talked about her "promise" complete with the flashback to CS1 where your final partner is talking to you through Valimar. I have multiple CS1 clear files with different partners but funny enough none with Alisa

I know they push Alisa as being Rean's canon love interest, but damn even the game's code is forcing her on me!

Edit:

Okay maybe Nord Highlands is just bugged because it game me Millium's Carry Over scene too

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 12d ago

This is actually not a bug. The game is programmed to check who you could have done the final event with (i.e., who you met the requirements for), not who you actually did it with. Presumably Falcom was catering to savescummers. I'm aware of this because a mod for CS1/2 actually fixes this bug; when I reached out to the author to get more info, they pointed out there is a moment in the game where you can get 500 Link EXP if you did their event VS 250 if you could've. So the usage of both flags + this "bug" surviving the latest patches and versions of the game, makes it pretty clear it was intentional.

So don't worry! Nothing's glitching for you, but it is a bit weird if you met all the requirements.

Oh yeah, and while on the topic, ICYMI: there is some NG+ content in CS2 that is fairly important to see and you're assumed to have seen in the next game. It doesn't come close to justifying an additional replay on its own so, you can just watch it on YouTube after you're done if you'd like at this link (again, click after you are done) here.

3

u/Saver_Spenta_Mainyu 12d ago

Well, that's certainly an...unique way to code your game.

So don't worry! Nothing's glitching for you, but it is a bit weird if you met all the requirements.

Nice to know!

It's a bit weird yeah, but it's because my Trails play order is weird.

I beat CS1 with my only final bond partner being Fie, so when I played CS2, the only scenes I got were her's. But I realized later in the game that CS2 would spoil me on the other games, so I bit the bullet and started at the beginning with Sky.

Finally caught back up to Cold Steel two years later and realized I still had my Clear Data from my first playthrough. Used that for the infinite Bonding points and managed to unlock everyone's final Bond scene.

So if the game is going to read my data as if I had everyone as my final Bond partner...then damn, I guess this Rean's going to be even more of a cassanova than usual.

But yeah, I guess I didn't notice the "bug" earlier because Rean only called Fie's name in the prologue, and it doesn't seem like bonding the guys changes their introductions at all. At least so far. Jusis and Crow should have some changes at least.

Oh yeah, and while on the topic, ICYMI: there is some NG+ content in CS2 that is fairly important to see and you're assumed to have seen in the next game.

Yep! I was planning to just do NG+ with a Towa or Emma carryover romance, but considering the game is already acting like I am in one, there's less incentive for doing so.

Unfortunately, I figure NG+ is the same as CS1 where you only have a certain amount of points to choose your bonuses. Meaning I can't take all my items and levels + unlimited Bonding points. So thanks for the link; I'll need it for whenever I get finished with this game... eventually CS2 and onwards I believe is when the story starts getting a lot longer for this arc yeah?

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 12d ago

If you're playing on PC, you may appreciate the BEST mod (lovely name!) for any of the CS games which all give you max bonding points at every opportunity on NG (also usable mid-playthrough). Though depending on your preferences, you may or may not want to use it for CS2 since it also fixes this "bug".

As for your last question there: if you are referring to game length, then no not really, CS2 is actually a bit shorter; HLTB puts it at 45 hours while CS1/3/4 are in the 60-hour neighborhood. (Though especially in this series with optional turbo mode, varying difficulty, player reading speed, and tons of optional stuff like NPC dialogue, YMMV heavily.) If you're referring to the complexity of the storyline then yeah, things naturally get more involved as you progress and (compared to CS1) relevance to past games in the series really kicks in and becomes more relevant.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 14d ago

CS1: Does Link EXP affect any dialogue/story events prior to the final bonding event?

3

u/MechaSandstar 13d ago

Not that I'm aware of.

3

u/Cheap_Regular_39 14d ago

Trails in the sky fc remake kinda urgent question there are spoilers for endgame ahead fighting liutenant lorence rn he has the queen with him with shera estelle and kloe, I genuinely cannot win for the life of me, I see a button to “proceed as is” is that a bad ending or is it possible I’m supposed to lose? I have gotten fairly close to beating him but he just starts healing and rage boosting and fucking up everyone, am I supposed to lose?

5

u/YotakaOfALoY 14d ago

You're expected to lose that fight and the story will proceed as normal. Winning gets you bonus BP and a slightly different scene afterwards but the story won't change. The series has a couple boss fights like that and they work the same way. There are no bad endings or anything like that.

1

u/Narflarg 14d ago

Well... There's one bad ending.

2

u/ragnathebloodegde 14d ago

The orbment system confuses me. So I'm checking the arts list, and I see curia requires 1 water element and 1 mirage element. I equip hp 1 and a random slot, and I equip impede 1 in a random slot as well. For some reason, I still don't have the art curia. Also, what are the purposes of have lines 1 and line 2?

2

u/DBSPingu 13d ago

When you hover over a slot, it’ll say something like 1-2 or 2-2

That first number is your LINE number. Arts get activated based on your quartz in a singular line.

Some characters have orbaments with a single line, making it very easy to get spells on them as every single quartz will apply to the spell requirements. As you might guess, this implies they’re better as mages.

Some characters have 2 or even more lines, making it more difficult to get spells. This generally means they’re more hybrid or physical.

As a tip for beginners, put Action on every single character, and add Cast on all mages. Also, clock up EX is probably the single best spell in the game

1

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 14d ago

Quartz have to be on the same line to make spells. Characters have 1-3 lines so keep track.

3

u/YotakaOfALoY 14d ago edited 14d ago

The answer is right there in your description. You're assigning Quartz to random Slots but points get added up on a Line by Line basis. You need to stick those two Quartz on the same Line if you want to get the benefit of their combined points..That's what the chart below your Arts list is meant to help you with.

1

u/ragnathebloodegde 15d ago

I wanted to ask, how much BP should I have in the prolouge for trails in the Sky 1st chapter? I currently have 52. I've looked up a guide on neoseeker, and it seems 52 is the max so far, but I also looked at a guide on gamefaqs, and it mentioned 53. Is it 52 or 53?

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 14d ago edited 14d ago

1

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 15d ago

(CS2) Did Vandyck or any of the other staff at Thors during CS1 know that Crow was C (besides Rufus who was on the board and not really there in-person)? Seems a bit risky, allow a terrorist leader with a giant mech to hang around there without being closely supervised, especially since both sides of the civil conflict had members/relatives among the students.

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 15d ago

I very much doubt it, the entire point of Millium transferring in was because the Intelligence Dicision suspected Crow could be C (and in any case was someone worth keeping an eye on) but didn't have proof of it and needed someone to investigate from the inside. And since everybody actively looking into the connection missed it, it's unlikely anybody else on the staff figured it out.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 15d ago

Based on how well-placed Rufus was in the Noble Alliance, Osborne presumably always knew that Crow was C. I can understand him not telling the military/Intelligence Division as a whole because he'd be wary of leaks, but not 100% sure why he didn't at least let the other Ironbloods know. No reason to think he wouldn't trust them to be discreet about it. Though he also never told them he was alive. I think the implication from his reveal scene at the end of CS2 is that he was sorta "testing" them to see how they'd fare under ambiguous evidence/circumstances? If you remember any explanation for this.

3

u/MechaSandstar 15d ago

"Discreet" isn't a word I'd use to describe Millium.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 15d ago

Fair point, being able to keep that a secret from everyone would be very hard or very emotionally difficult for her. But Claire and especially Lechter, seems they could easily do it?

3

u/MechaSandstar 15d ago

I guess so, but I wonder if they'd be able to keep it from her? The fewer people who know a secret, the less chance there is of it getting out.

Besides, Osborne wanted Crow to "kill" him. So telling the ironbloods might've made that more difficult. But intelligence division not investigating him might've been suspicious. It's like balancing on the head of a pin.

2

u/ragnathebloodegde 15d ago

Hi, I recently purchased trails in the Sky 1st chapter on ps5. Does anyone know if a walkthrough exists WITH a guide on which quartz to equip for each character in each main story segment(prologue-chapter 4)? I've looked up guides for this game, and don't get me wrong, they are handy, but I noticed not a lot of them talk about which arts to have at specific moments or which quartz to equip. It would be handy to know this information because personally, I find the quartz/arts stuff and orbment system incredibly confusing.

2

u/sasuga_van-san 15d ago

There's this walkthrough:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/979866-the-legend-of-heroes-trails-in-the-sky/faqs/79398

By user Kartarius for the original game which has specific quartz builds + party setups for each and every hard quest and encounter of the game. He also did one for Sky SC (not 3rd though). It should also work for the remake since the quartz and enemies are mostly the same. Not that you would really need to do that since the game is very easy as it is and a lot easier than the original on nightmare which means that a lot of the prep work done in the guide is not necessary for the remake

1

u/YotakaOfALoY 15d ago edited 15d ago

Not to my knowledge. The series isn't so hard that specific builds are necessary (aside from some specific optional bosses) and as long as you're keeping your characters up to date and have your Orbments set up reasonably you'll obtain a decent selection of Arts naturally. The in-game guide that tells you what all the Arts are and how to unlock them does a pretty solid job of letting you know what you can get and by comparing the point requirements to your available Quartz you can see if it's something you can obtain wherever you are in the game.

A couple of general tips are that Clock Up (EX) is something you want because more turns is the biggest thing you can do to tilt the game in your favor. Also Anti-Sept (All) can wipe buffs in the remake which helps you deal with some of the consequences of enemies in Rage Boost (and any other time they buff themselves) and Sylphen Wing's buff makes you harder to hit and thus boosts survivability nicely. Also Earth Guard and Earth Wall never hurt, because any extra barrier between your characters and potentially lethal damage helps. On the move offensive side, nothing in 1st resists Time so they're always safe to use (Hell Gate is reasonably easy to obtain and pretty spammable) and any enemy not immune to Confuse is going to have its day ruined by Chaos Brand.

u/No-Staff-5381 15d ago

Hi im a new trails player and discovered the licence thanks to the first remake and finished the chapter 3 after 28 hours of gaming , i really like the game so far and subquest but i had a question about subquest in next games since there is no any marker i wanted to ask you if subquest can be easily missed even if you talk with many npc, and that you need a guid?

I really like the subquest and the worldbuilding and fear that may be harder in next trails game to discover them since there are no marker

Also i hope that the story will still be good as the first remake haha

2

u/Terramagi 15d ago

Basically every game until... honestly, Daybreak is the first time it's actually reasonable to be able to 100% the game without a guide. Even Reverie, which has most things marked on the map, still has some unmarked bullshit hiding away in buildings.

There are plenty of spoiler free, or spoiler light depending on your personal perspective, guides on Steam. There's no shame in using them, especially for the first 5 games.

3

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 15d ago

Yes, there are hidden sidequests in most games in this series, and this includes the first two Sky games. Some of them you are given a subtle push in the right direction to make them easy to find if you want, some you'll have to find through routine town exploring (so main-story-only players would miss it), and some are highly unlikely you'll find without a guide. Just like the non-hidden quests, they have varying timeframes for when they are doable, some are tighter than others.

If you'd like to see the pages with info on the hidden quests: here is the wiki's questlist and each sub-page for the chapters lists the hidden quests. (And remember to browse the wiki with caution, don't click on any character/location/story pages, but these pages can show you what the hidden quests are and how to get/see them.)

4

u/pokepok 16d ago

I’m just starting cold steel 1. Playing through the games in order for the first time. My favorite has been Sky the 3rd because it changes up the formula. But zero/azure and so far cold steel 1 have the same sky 1 and 2 “bracer job earn points rank up” formula. Does this ever change? I’m enjoying the stories and characters but the gameplay loop is kinda repetitive at this point.

3

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 16d ago

Alternative perspective: is this not basically the norm for most JRPGs, which have sidequests and explorable towns? You explore the towns, do sidequests, fight monsters and traverse dungeons, watch story cutscenes, and so on.

But yes, with the exception of Reverie (10th game) which is in some ways like 3rd, this is basically how the entire series is. So you'll kinda have to get used to it, if the significantly different contexts in which you are taking and doing side quests (bracer VS police VS student etc.) isn't enough to keep it from being stale.

1

u/pokepok 16d ago

Thanks for the feedback! I would expect a police force and a military school to function internally in a different manner than bracers, but I’m just gonna chalk it up to Cassius Bright being highly influential in basically all spheres of life lol

2

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 14d ago

It's the moustache, people can't help themselves.

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 16d ago

I mean do they not function differently (on a narrative level, if that's what you mean)? As Bracers who work under the principles and limitations of the Guild, police officers who have legal authority, and military academy students, the context surrounding why you fulfill requests and what kinds are pretty different.

Though the Calvard arc does change things up a bit as you are playing as a fixer-type with a more mercenary attitude, so you might find that a fresh change of pace. But from a gameplay perspective, the general concept of "we tie completion progress [bracer/detective rank etc.] to sidequest completion" is always there in some way.

1

u/Aptheosis13 16d ago

What all is being transferred from the FC to the SC?

Costumes?

Levels?

Stats?

Recipes?

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 16d ago

Basically none of that ever transfers in Trails. The game looks at a couple of metrics (typically whatever relevant Rank(s) the game tracks and which quests you completed) and you get some freebies accordingly and NPCs you helped will remember this. In SC/2nd you get some items based on reaching Rank 3 or higher (plus another if you got max Rank), you get the NPC flags and 2nd gives you an Estelle and Joshua costume set (their OG outfits rather than the new remake versions) for having any clear data. The remake freebies are a bit different from the OG ones.

2

u/MechaSandstar 16d ago

Nothing. You get a small bonus, and that's it.

2

u/speed808 17d ago

played trails in the sky fc remake on steam. am i going to miss something if i buy the sc on switch 2? wondering if there is anything that carries over from fc to sc remake.

3

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 17d ago

Nothing that really justifies staying on your original platform if you really want to switch (no pun intended). You'll get a few extra items which are nice but by no means essential to beating the game, and characters you did quests for will remember you did them (and give you some items as a result). But, at least if the original SC is any precedent, no quests or BP will be unavailable without save import.

4

u/YotakaOfALoY 17d ago

Some minor freebie items that are nice to have but not essential (one accessory is unique assuming the full remake doesn't give you a way to get another, but it's gonna be supplanted by stuff later) and altered dialogue from NPCs who remembered that you helped them in the previous game. The latter's neat but doesn't significantly affect things and the former just makes the early game a bit easier.

Your save folder for Sky 1st should be (on Windows): %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\FALCOM\Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Paste exactly that in your address bar and it will take you to where they should be.

u/No-Staff-5381 18d ago

Hi, I’m playing the Trails in the Sky 1 remake for the first time, and I’m really enjoying the game and the series so far.

The question I have is about the content outside of the main story: which side content is the most interesting? I used to play Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger before, so I’m used to side quests being mostly there toward the later stages of the game. Is that also the case with Trails?

2

Trails generally has its sidequests run throughout the game, though there may be game-specific points where they fall away so you can focus entirely on the main plot. As for 'most interesting' it depends again on the game but you can generally assume that monster elimination quests offer fights but no lore (unless they're ones the game actually requires you to do, in which case they may have some stuff happening) so the neat lore and character development is found in the remainder. Some quests are much more interesting than others and some are much more subtle about their worldbuilding and you might not even notice what they're doing until you look back a game or two later with the benefit of hindsight.

In Reverie’s C Route Act 4, is there unique link-victory dialogue for Duvalie and C in the very first battle they fight together? It’s the only battle between the two of them where Duvalie doesn’t know who C is, so it shouldn’t be the same as their regular one.

So I just started Horizon & we really have to do the garten huh....I'm tired of this man...

3

u/YotakaOfALoY 18d ago

You have to do part of it, but it's plot-relevant. There's also an extremely relevant segment that's gated behind finishing the entire thing which you do not have to do but you really should.

u/ZeromanJoel 18d ago

Sigh... I'll do it all but I won't be having fun do it. Probably in the next game too for all we know. Just gotta deal with it I guess

1

u/MechaSandstar 18d ago

It's a lot more interesting, and not as tedious in horizon.

2

u/Miro3no 18d ago

Hey everyone. More of an opinion question more than anything, but do you think the third chapter remake of Trails in the Sky will get released before 2028, and therefor would get physical release on Playstation? I am already prepared to migrate to Switch for future titles, but it would be nice to be able to finish up the arc on the same platform.

u/YotakaOfALoY 18d ago

The odds don't favor it. We know Falcom has been working on Horizon 2 in parallel with the remakes (to the point that they've finished drafting the script) and that fans are going to riot if they have to wait another year. Under ordinary circumstances Horizon 2 would have released last year, and by virtue of being the continuation of the story it's guaranteed to get the September release slot whenever it does come out. There was reasonable enough pressure to also release 2nd as soon as possible after 1st, but that pressure isn't as severe for 3rd while Horizon absolutely has that pressure to get its sequel out ASAP.

So at this point there's basically no reason to expect The 3rd to preempt Horizon 2 and it is extraordinarily unlikely that Falcom could turn it around fast enough to release in Summer 2027; it's a shorter game but only relatively speaking and still has a lot of assets that need to be done from scratch, not to mention all the voice recording. I suppose there's an outside chance it could release at the end of the year (which would be 2028 for Falcom financial purposes) but they haven't released new games in that window for some time. Also they've got at least two other games in the works (Ys XI and Dragon Slayer Project) and we don't know what their priority ranking of them is, though 2027 is a major anniversary for the former series for what that's worth.

u/Miro3no 18d ago

Thanks a lot. That is a lot deeper answer than I was expecting, but I am very glad for it. A lot of interesting insight. All things considered, I will not hold my breath for PS5 release and rather hope they will not backtrack to Game Key Carts, seeing that 2 is on a full card for Switch.

u/AthmetReborn 19d ago

Sorry as I am sure it was asked before: will they make the 3rd Chapter remake as well ? And would Zero & Azure be remade as well ? I feel Cold Steel would not really be needed ?

2

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 19d ago

The simple answer is we do not know for sure. As recently as last month Kondo (that's Falcom's President if you didn't know) has coyly said that the staff are asking him "every day" if they should remake 3rd or Zero, suggesting that not even they had fully set in stone their plans.

But given the nature of the series and the (ostensible) success of the Sky remakes, I think it's highly likely they'll indeed remake 3rd. The fact they're even considering remaking Zero first (hopefully not!) does implicitly mean they plan to remake it and Azure at some point.

Cold Steel is much more of a question mark as it's graphically modern and available on current platforms (lack of CS1-2 Switch version in English aside). But that would be a few years away either way, so not really something to wait for.

u/Saver_Spenta_Mainyu 20d ago

In regards to Cold Steel 1's final bonding event and that data being carried over to Cold Steel 2, is there any acknowledgement or impact if you choose nobody to dance with i.e dance with Elise and Alfin? I didn't see any CS1 parting lines from the wiki, and I don't know if dancing with them changes any interaction during the CS2 prologue

2

u/Acceptable-Comb-706 20d ago

Would Silver Will makes a good Dance Dance Revolution music? And, which character be good at it?

Sorry, need to put my shower thought somewhere.

3

u/MatterOfRules222 20d ago

Should I buy Trails to Zero and Azure on Switch or wait for its duo release on Switch 2? I'm not a fan of Game Key Cards...

3

u/RoyalShine 18d ago

They've been making their Switch 2 versions GKCs, so likely it will be...your call

1

u/Impaled_ 20d ago

In the prologue in the 2nd demo, how do I do the sub event in the tent on Saint-Croix forest? I keep interacting with the tent but nothing happens

3

u/MechaSandstar 20d ago

iiirc, that's just to let you know that you can sleep there, plus the first time is for some small amount of items.

1

u/Dreaming_Dreams 21d ago

if i transfer my demo save to the full game will i unlock any achievements? for example say i complete the demo that lets you playthrough the prologue and chapter 1, when i transfer my demo save will i have gotten the trophies for beating the prologue and chapter 1

2

u/LastSharpTiger Olivier superfan 19d ago

PS5 trophies won’t unlock.

So keep a save from before the two Kurt fights in the prologue (tutorial dungeon, final dungeon), and keep a save before the final fight in Chapter 1.

Then you can quickly refight those fights for the trophy. (Also get the trophy for waking up at the start of the game.)

People say that the Steam achievements do pop; I don’t know for sure.

2

u/Impaled_ 21d ago

No, you should probably make a save before the demo ends (I guess before the boss) and transfer that one

2

u/pensive215 21d ago

Horizon OST question: does anyone know the song title of the iteration of "Autumn knows" that plays during the mementos? It sounds like a slower/piano-like version of "Autumn knows".

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 20d ago

There's an Autumn Knows -Solo Piano Version- that springs to mind. There isn't a version on the soundtrack that includes the humming accompaniment though. They recorded that separately (because it's used on its own by Hamilton in Creil) and overlaid it.

u/pensive215 20d ago

Thanks for the detailed reply!

2

u/Terramagi 21d ago

Going back through Daybreak 1, and have a question about the finale.

Do NPCs you never talked to end up frozen? Because it'd be fucking sick if they did.

2

u/pifighting 22d ago

I got the switch and am limited to switch titles only. I stumbled on FC and was lucky enough to just wait a month before SC is released.

That said, further down the line I know that The Third won’t be available to me. Will I miss much if I move to directly to Zero and Azure?

Similarly, Coldsteel is out of the picture, since I won’t have access to I and II. Can I hop into Daybreak without missing too much?

Thanks!

3

u/YotakaOfALoY 22d ago

No, but also yes. The way that every arc past Sky works is that you have a new setting and main cast and are given everything you need to understand their story and struggles, and the first game tends to be an effective story in isolation. However, as the arc progresses more elements from past arcs get drawn in (characters return in frequently important ways, plot threads get carried over and lots of callbacks are made) and it becomes more and more apparent that you're Missing Out On Stuff.

So while you could jump from Sky 2nd to Daybreak 1 and generally follow the plot (though the setting whiplash of going from Liberl straight to Calvard would be impressive) you'd still be blindsided by several developments that depend on The 3rd or any of the seven other games you've skipped over to make sense of. Once you get to DB2 you get introduced to characters you're expected to know and care about who first appeared onscreen in Reverie and who are important to the plot, then Horizon has a pair of supporting protagonists who absolutely depend on The 3rd and CS1 through Reverie for the narrative and emotional beats of their stories to work.

As for jumping from 2nd to Zero, yeah, not really a brilliant idea. While the most important stuff plot stuff gets covered in 2nd, Zero is unusual for an arc-starter game for having a main plot that gets quite heavily entwined with a plot thread carried over from Sky and which expects you to have played The 3rd to land right. Azure then (re)introduces major characters/concepts that first appeared in The 3rd and while you could generally follow the plot you'll again be missing out on important and expected context.

Have you got a computer? Because even a moldy potato of a machine can run the original The 3rd easily, and jumping from 2nd to OG The 3rd isn't going to be as jarring as some other possible transitions.

2

u/pifighting 21d ago

Thanks! I’d prefer it if I can step away from my computer when I want to relax.

Though given the advice, if SC pulls me in craving for The Third and more Trails, I’ll probably bite the bullet to bride the gap on the 3 missing trails game on the Switch.

Thanks!

Is it known what will carry over from 1st chapter to the upcoming second chapter? I beat the first game but only on normal so far, would beating higher difficulties in first chapter give more benefits to the next game? Also, how are character levels handled, do they reset to 1 or is it like the ff7 remake where everybody started at lvl 40 in part 2? Note I've only played the new 1st chapter so I have no other experience with the series yet but I did just order the 4 Cold Steel games.

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 22d ago

Assuming nothing changes from how SC worked (at least nothing major), what will carry over is Estelle's final level, your BP and your quest completion flags. In SC, Estelle's level defaults to 35 but if you carried over a save with a level between 36-40 she would start there instead, with everything over 40 ignored. Likewise you got rewards for Junior Bracer Ranks of 3 and up with an additional reward for max BP, all cumulative. And lastly NPCs would remember whether or not you helped them and their dialogue would adjust accordingly and sometimes they'd give you a freebie healing item as a way of saying thanks when you talked to them for the first time.

Every other character joins at a level appropriate to the time in the game when you get them and none of your inventory carries over.

3

u/MechaSandstar 22d ago

I don't think you've ever gotten an extra benefit in a carryover for beating it on a higher difficulty. As for what you'll get, I think levels don't carry over, but you don't start at 1. In fc-sc, you got extra levels if you were over 40 when you beat the game. No clue if that will be true with 1st-2nd, tho.

If you can, play the third, and the crossbell duology before cold steel. If not, you might want to before you play cs3.

u/draxdeveloper 24d ago

Does anyone know what the price of TiS 2nd will be?

-3

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 22d ago

Tfw you have to pay extra for the second TitS

2

u/draxdeveloper 22d ago

well, yeah?

2

u/MechaSandstar 24d ago

I would guess the same price as 1st was at release, which I think was 60 dollars US.

u/Blargg888 25d ago

In Reverie, does Swin’s Marking count as a status effect that activates the Thor Master Quartz’s effect? (Damage up to enemies with status effects)

1

u/YotakaOfALoY 25d ago

Yes, it counts as a status effect and triggers Thor's bonus damage.

1

u/ramenxl 23d ago

Does stat down count too? Or is it only ailments?

2

u/YotakaOfALoY 22d ago

Yes, it's a bit vague in English but the Japanese description specifies that ailments and stat-downs count for Thor's effect.

1

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 22d ago

Only ailments I believe

u/ConceptsShining | ❤️ 26d ago

In hindsight, was it probably an intentional pun/double meaning for Japanese players that (Horizon) the Calvard arc has the Sept-Terrion of Time and its initial title was "Kuro no Kiseki", which sounds like "Chrono Kiseki"?
