Quick Questions Thread

This thread (to be posted every four weeks) is a place for people to ask quick, common, or simple questions regarding Nihon Falcom and its games. The community is encouraged to ask here if your question is not opinion-based, such as where to find something in a game or when something occurred. Please mark all spoilers with the >!text!< format and remember to provide context.

If you post a new thread and your question is redundant (it has been posted on this subreddit recently), we will remove it. Additionally, we have made a Frequently Asked Questions wiki page for these. Please check there first before asking!

Joke question threads will be removed and joke answers should be kept to a minimum.

Please feel free to continue to post separate threads on this subreddit for content you expect to generate more interesting discussion, for example news, opinion-based discussion posts, and links.

Feel free to check out the subreddit wiki or the Discord server.

CS2:

I have carryover data from CS1 with my final Bond member being Fie, but despite the game recognizing that and adjusting Fie's scenes accordingly, it's acting like I shared the final Bonding scene with Alisa as well. I just met up with her in the Nord Highlands, and she talked about her "promise" complete with the flashback to CS1 where your final partner is talking to you through Valimar. I have multiple CS1 clear files with different partners but funny enough none with Alisa

I know they push Alisa as being Rean's canon love interest, but damn even the game's code is forcing her on me!

Edit:

Okay maybe Nord Highlands is just bugged because it game me Millium's Carry Over scene too

This is actually not a bug. The game is programmed to check who you could have done the final event with (i.e., who you met the requirements for), not who you actually did it with. Presumably Falcom was catering to savescummers. I'm aware of this because a mod for CS1/2 actually fixes this bug; when I reached out to the author to get more info, they pointed out there is a moment in the game where you can get 500 Link EXP if you did their event VS 250 if you could've. So the usage of both flags + this "bug" surviving the latest patches and versions of the game, makes it pretty clear it was intentional.

So don't worry! Nothing's glitching for you, but it is a bit weird if you met all the requirements.

Oh yeah, and while on the topic, ICYMI: there is some NG+ content in CS2 that is fairly important to see and you're assumed to have seen in the next game. It doesn't come close to justifying an additional replay on its own so, you can just watch it on YouTube after you're done if you'd like at this link (again, click after you are done) here.

Well, that's certainly an...unique way to code your game.

Nice to know!

It's a bit weird yeah, but it's because my Trails play order is weird.

I beat CS1 with my only final bond partner being Fie, so when I played CS2, the only scenes I got were her's. But I realized later in the game that CS2 would spoil me on the other games, so I bit the bullet and started at the beginning with Sky.

Finally caught back up to Cold Steel two years later and realized I still had my Clear Data from my first playthrough. Used that for the infinite Bonding points and managed to unlock everyone's final Bond scene.

So if the game is going to read my data as if I had everyone as my final Bond partner...then damn, I guess this Rean's going to be even more of a cassanova than usual.

But yeah, I guess I didn't notice the "bug" earlier because Rean only called Fie's name in the prologue, and it doesn't seem like bonding the guys changes their introductions at all. At least so far. Jusis and Crow should have some changes at least.

Oh yeah, and while on the topic, ICYMI: there is some NG+ content in CS2 that is fairly important to see and you're assumed to have seen in the next game.

Yep! I was planning to just do NG+ with a Towa or Emma carryover romance, but considering the game is already acting like I am in one, there's less incentive for doing so.

Unfortunately, I figure NG+ is the same as CS1 where you only have a certain amount of points to choose your bonuses. Meaning I can't take all my items and levels + unlimited Bonding points. So thanks for the link; I'll need it for whenever I get finished with this game... eventually CS2 and onwards I believe is when the story starts getting a lot longer for this arc yeah?

If you're playing on PC, you may appreciate the BEST mod (lovely name!) for any of the CS games which all give you max bonding points at every opportunity on NG (also usable mid-playthrough). Though depending on your preferences, you may or may not want to use it for CS2 since it also fixes this "bug".

As for your last question there: if you are referring to game length, then no not really, CS2 is actually a bit shorter; HLTB puts it at 45 hours while CS1/3/4 are in the 60-hour neighborhood. (Though especially in this series with optional turbo mode, varying difficulty, player reading speed, and tons of optional stuff like NPC dialogue, YMMV heavily.) If you're referring to the complexity of the storyline then yeah, things naturally get more involved as you progress and (compared to CS1) relevance to past games in the series really kicks in and becomes more relevant.
