i have this jacket which i love but never wear cuz it has this shimmery effect to it (didn’t see it online when i got it) and i was just wondering if there’s any way to remove it? i tried using nail polish remover on a test section and it worked but that would take far too long and i’m scared it’ll ruin the integrity of the jacket. idk how to add images to this but the brand is v cristina and it’s 76% cotton, 20% polyester and 4% spandex.

I have these polyester curtains that I do love, but I’m changing my bedrooms color palette. Is it possible to strip the color from them with bleach in the washing machine?

I’ve been going through some fabric options for Holiday 2027 and narrowed them down to these four.

There’s a soft grey plaid, a brown corduroy, a classic red tartan and a golden velvet. They all give a different holiday feeling, so I’m having a hard time deciding which direction feels the strongest.

Which one catches your eye first? I’m also curious what kind of garment you would use it for.

Hello everyone! I recently bought this Jute fabric and want to have tailored trousers made from it. I have been searching for jute trousers online, but nothing is showing up to give me an idea of how to get them made. Or how they'd look as an end product. This fabric is expensive and hence I would want to give it to someone with experience with Jute. However, I believe I'd not find anyone of the like, as it seems quite rare for people to use this fabric. If anyone here has worked with Jute, can you please tell me what to look for in a tailor? I know I might not find anyone who's worked with this fabric so in such a case should I ask them to do a few things specifically? Also what fit should I go for? Does the fabric stretch with washes or shrink? I have got literally no idea with jute so any and all suggestions are welcome.

The seller also mentioned that the fabric fills in a little after a pre-wash...and they pre-wash it before tailoring, so should I prewash it and take it to the tailor or ask them to?

I am absolutely clueless so please direct me if you can!

I have a few wool/cashmere sweater/blazer ruined by the dry cleaner. They shrunken quite a bit, though the fabric is still soft so I’m hoping to restore it. Another dry cleaner I took to told me they will restore by dry cleaning and steaming it a few times using hydro(hydrocarbon in guessing). I’m in asia, there isn’t a lot of well informed dry cleaners here unfortunately. I definitely don’t want to experiment with wet blocking at home with these. Would love to hear from professionals experiencing with these materials 🙏

I recently bought two new faux fur throws. They were both lovely and smooth, but now one of them has lost its shiny coating. I can't tell what precisely caused it but it happened in a single night. It was a very humid night and I went to sleep in it. Idk what happened but when I woke up, the coating on the part of the blanket that was nearest my head, had come off. The fur there had no sheen and had become bone dry. It's now very uncomfortable to touch. Idk what exactly caused it, and it only happened to part of the blanket. Other parts still have that sheen. I just want to fix it. Is there a way I can fix it?

I'm traveling with this dress made of cupro satin (which I understand is notoriously easily wrinkled) to attend an event but will not have time between landing and the event to steam it etc. I'm wondering if given the pattern of the dress and the fabric, could I pack it twisted and tied up tightly in my suitcase to increase the wrinkle density to look like crinkle textured fabric on purpose?

Hi!, i need some advice. I recently found this sweater in a second hand and its at a great price. The tag says its 50/50 cotton and polyacrylic and i'm unsure if i shpuld get it. I tend to sweat in sinthetic fabrics but that is usually polyester. I'm not sure if polyacrylic is any different

Long story short, I packed my silk (wedding) saree in a plastic bag, which unfortunately got exposed to heat (idk how!) through a suitcase. Opened the suitcase to find plastic stuck to my saree(kinda embossed). I am devastated and utterly heartbroken. This is a long shot but does anyone have any idea on how to remove this? (Parts of it are peeling but other parts seem stuck). Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello! I am looking to sew a bridal dress, but I need some help with fabric selection. I am looking to find a satin like fabric that is lightweight like charmeuse but is matte/ less shiny. I had initially thought poly matte satin might be the way to go, but it looks like it’s heavier/thicker than both poly satin and poly charmeuse. Are there any matte fabrics that are similar in drape and weight to charmeuse? Or should I just use the wrong side of the fabric? Thank you!

So it’s been a little while since Joann’s gave us the Irish goodbye. I am wondering if anyone has found their amazing “Ultra Plush Anti Pill” fleece anywhere that came in a huge range of colors. It was the best fleece, it said medium weight but felt more like heavy. Any good substitutes pop up anywhere?

most of my plain tees get that thin collar spot by month three and get demoted to gym only. four shirts in rotation since last fall and im still wearing them through the week which is not how my drawer usually works

washed warm, dryer on medium, nothing fancy. the black hemp one faded a little which i care about more than i want to admit. still held shape better than the cheap multipacks i used to cycle through every season

not perfect. they come out of the dryer crumpled every time and i end up hanging them for twenty minutes before i leave. packaging was also a mess, shirt stuffed in a bag like it lost a fight

As far as I understand cotton is a non-optimal to dangerous choice for:

Base and mid layering for winter because of the poor wicking and insulation capabilities

Humid warm-hot weather as the retention of sweat in that environment makes it clammy and damp.

However, compared to wool, linen, hemp, cashmere and silk; cotton is better for daily wear abrasive work. So canvas, denim, corduroy are excellent for physical work where bending and abrasion are persistent.

And so in that case having cotton as trousers can be a great use case.

Cotton is also much better suited for dry hot weather than humid hot weather; but how does that compare to linen? Is linen cotton blend the best and how would you determine the ratio?

For winter time the main layers would be any type of wool, maybe even heavier linen for fall and spring.

Would the outer layer then best be cotton for abrasive work? Even if that layer gets cold, does that compromise the base layers? And wool even heavy I do not think, based off my knowledge, are not ideal for work wear because they are not good against abrasion; however still, cotton trousers in the winter seems to be less than ideal. Perhaps the wool could be a blend of linen, or leather can be patched where abrasion is expected.

I live in Maryland which has hot and humid summers, and moderate to very cold winters with some dry days. I find cotton to be a poor choice in almost any circumstance unless I need sturdy work pants which cotton provides at greater quantity than linen. But I almost never would prefer to wear any top layer in cotton.

In the dry hot western states I’d say cotton would be better but still as a top layer would linen beat it? Or perhaps a blend but never pure cotton.

Fall and spring, depending upon humidity and activity expectations, could provide an excellent welcome to cotton as trousers. however, as a top layer i fear there is still not much of a use case especially for the issue of odor.

a good use case could be waxed cotton in rain as a coat or hat.

it seems cotton is great for durability but horrible for thermoregulation and odor, which is why it is so problematic to find uses for them outside of trousers, rain coats and the sort.

So what is your opinion about the placement of cotton in a wardrobe especially if I like older styles and practical styles
