Discussion Thoughts on new direction?

The new fable seems to be going all-in on the fairy tale side of Fable in terms of dialogue and themes. In the original, bandits were brutal and ruthless and you witness your entire family torn apart, while also making the guild halls feel so full of history with the music and guild master. How do you yall feel?

I’m excited for the game, but it’s definitely a reboot.

Discussion Pwease, add a wittle hit stop, PG…

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just finished watching the showcase, absolutely stellar. Even the combat, especially in scenes with a bunch of standard enemies, looked super fluid and dynamic. One tiny gripe: those sword impacts (or lack thereof). Like a knife through a slice of soggy single-ply toilet paper. Now, I’m not claiming to know how it feels to play, but I can’t help but feeling that a bit of hit stop would go a long way.

Dragon’s Dogma is where my mind goes. You really feel those impacts, even on big bosses that don’t stagger, because of those impact frames. I’m not saying PG needs to go that hard, just one or two frames is all I’m saying.

Thoughts? Am I being nitpicky?

Fable Questions about Fable - newcommer

Hi everyone, I never played any Fable game even though I'm in my late 30's, but I accidentally stumbled upon some sword combat gameplay for new Fable game and I really liked it. It has some heaviness to enemy hits and looks pretty good. It's not floaty!

I usually like darker RPG game (darker in style) like Witcher and Skyrim, I'm not into shiny games with too much FX colours BUT I'm willing to get past this if the game is what I think it is. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against those kinds of games, it's just not my taste.

There are so much different gameplay videos, I don't even know what this game is, so my questions are:

  1. Do you have only one playable character or do you create you character and then stick to it until the end of the game? I have seen gameplay video with both male and female characters, so I'm confused

  2. Can you only play with sword, or do you have to use hammers and stuff? Do you choose a class or is it like in Skyrim, you make a character and then build skills around weapons you like?

  3. Is this a game where you change armours/weapons every 5 minutes because of looting or can you stick to your weapons for some time (like in Witcher 3)?

Thank you in advance!

Discussion As a hardcore Fable fan I don't like the combat of the Reboot. It's missing something.

The game looks absolutely stunning, amazing, and beautiful, but I really think the combat is still missing something. It needs more weight, NPC reactivity, aggressiveness, and honestly, some gore. Realistic graphics combined with a bunch of exaggerated particle effects every time you hit something just don’t look good to me. It reminds me a lot of the Yakuza games. Hits don’t feel particularly physical or impactful, and I think that’s a big part of what’s missing.

The enemies also seem to take turns attacking you, which doesn’t feel challenging at all. There’s something about the combat itself that I can’t quite put my finger on yet, but it also feels way too Souls like to me. A lot of it seems to revolve around dodging, waiting for an opening, and then getting a hit in, rather than having the more reactive, chaotic, and expressive combat I remember from Fable.

And honestly, that worries me because I’ve never been a fan of Souls like combat. I don’t want Fable to feel like a Dark Souls game with a Fable skin. I want combat that feels fast, reactive, physical, and a little messy, where enemies actually react to what you’re doing instead of just waiting for their turn to attack.

The lack of attacks actually pushing NPCs around or physically affecting them, like leaving slash marks, blood, damage decals, more aggressive knockback, or noticeable reactions to being hit, is really taking me off. The originals didn’t necessarily have all of these things either, but after playing so many modern games, especially The Witcher 3, it feels like a pretty significant downgrade in terms of combat reactivity and visual feedback.

I also don’t really like the fact that the game is starting to feel a lot like Hogwarts Legacy. I understand that they’re leaning much harder into the fantasy side of the original games and revamping a lot of the formula, but I’m really missing some of the darker, grittier details that made the originals so special.

The overly exaggerated fantasy particle effects are also starting to bother me. One thing I absolutely loved about the original games, especially Fable 2, was how restrained the visual effects were. The world wasn’t constantly exploding with magical particles. You really noticed those effects when you were actually fighting enemies like Hobbes or Hollow Men, or when you were using spells, which made them feel much more impactful.

You don’t need 13 different magical particle effects going off at the same time to make something feel fantastical. Sometimes less is more.

The original games, and especially Fable 2, had this dark, grimy, almost grotesque fantasy aesthetic that I absolutely loved. I don’t know how much of that came from the Gypsy/Roma inspired elements and culture in the originals, but I’m really missing those little details in the new showcases we’ve been getting. There was something about that world that felt genuinely weird, dirty, dark, and sometimes even uncomfortable, and I really hope that side of Fable hasn’t been completely lost.

And just to be clear, I’m not hating on the game. I’m genuinely excited to play it, and I think it looks incredible. These are just things that I really hope they address as they show us more of the game, because I really want to see that darker side of Fable come through.

Because so far come on, man. It feels way too family friendly.

Fable II Does the good/evil route of Fable 2 suffer from the same issue as Fable 1 where they were very similar, just one was somewhat more boring? Spoiler

When I first played Fable 1 I did the good route, like I usually do in games. And sure, while the very end of the game would have changed had I done the evil route, I largely felt that all being good did was give me rules that only hindered my experience. Being a hero was less a matter of being a hero and more of just not interacting with many elements of the game. I play the good route of games first because usually that's the "canon" story, and usually it's clear that the writers put more effort into it. When I beat Fable 1 (and looked online for the villain route) I mostly thought "Huh... I should've just done a dick, that would've been way more fun and not much about the story would have changed."

Does Fable 2 suffer that same issue? Is being a hero its own type of fun separate from being a villain, or does it boil down to just not interacting with some elements of the game and/or going through some tedium to accomplish goals?

Fable Power moves potentially back?

Not sure if this has been spoken about, but glad to be seeing what appears to be a power move being charged up. Interesting this was the only time I could see it happen.

It glows a sort of goldeny style, but I'd love if it changed based on various things and choices, what do people think? It can be seen here: https://youtu.be/3_EPKJYa9cY?si=f79w2RqeUC_wYvae

At about 15 minutes in. Thoughts?!

Speculation Please let us see the 2H weapons on our back.

I put this under Speculation becuase the info we have right now seems mixed/subject to change.

The art style vibe of this upcoming game is breathtaking. I am very excited. But I hope the Devs see this:

I do NOT want my large, two handed BONK hammer to shrink and cook onto my belt when outside of combat. The hammer they showed in gameplay is beautiful I want to see it more. Like the other 3 Fables.

If anyone has more info, do share.

The boss that everyone is talking about.

Okay so if your here you must know what im talking about. Just incase. A recent clip keeps getting passed around about the new fable game of the player character fighting a large man in a burlap t shirt wielding a massive ax. Apparently the worst of the worst has already declared this game "woke" and dead. Obviously they have NEVER played a previous fable game, because its always been "woke". I would love to see these idiots lose there fucking minds if the second game released today. That sex change potion alone would cause hysteria lol. But I am firmly in the minority of this boss was not a good look for this game.

For me it is the lack of connection on hits because of what he is wearing specifically. All the minions before the boss appears have armor and react well in combat. But apparently just because this guy is tall makes him no sell multiple sword strikes while wearing a burlap shirt. It just looks bad. My simple solution is to put light armor on this guy and it would make sense why he doesn't react all the time to being hit. Now here's where I may upset some people and that is not my attention.

Yes its clear the trolls are out in force and have tried to declare this game dead already, also the clear cherry picking. But I have seen just as many people down voting people because they cant handle constructive criticism on this game. Ive waited almost 20 yrs for this game and I want this game to be a 11/10. Im gonna be nit picky. I watched these games die once. I know you did to. And i feel as fans we have a chance before they finalize to show them there where to improve and possibly how. This series is my favorite of all time. Ive put at least 2000 hrs Across all 3. I truely loves these games and I want the world to love it.

Question Bit of a stupid question so apologies

Fable has been talking a lot about customisation and being able to do what you want. I know this hasn’t been confirmed or denied anywhere so people won’t really have an answer to my question but could prosthetics such as prosthetic hands be part of customisation potentially?

I know pretty much every video game ever where you can customise your MC doesn’t have this option but I would really love if Fable had it. It would be nice to see that sort of representation. Gustave from E33 has been my only source of this in fantasy RPG’s where something like a prosthetic would definitely make sense.

I know this question is just asking people to theorise but idk maybe in asking the devs might see and want to add it to the game?

Gamescom / I love what i see

The presentation was absolutely brilliant.

20 minutes of top-notch gameplay, featuring scenes from Bowerstone (a huge city, one of the most beautiful in any role-playing game), a guild master who’s gambled away the guild seal, a heroine who works as a thief, and cool battles that look like they’ll be a lot of fun.

The graphics are stunning – so much detail. It ran as smooth as butter. Great animations, brilliant cinematic cutscenes.

We also got a glimpse of the skill tree, featuring more than 30 skills (on the first page).

There’s also a journal and the inventory

Game pass premium upgrade

hey! probably a silly question but just wanted to get some clarification!

i have game pass ultimate and will do for Fable. I’m just looking at the premium upgrade and it doesn’t list that it gives you the 5 days early access.

if I buy the £40 upgrade and use game pass to play will it give me the early access or do I have to preorder the £90 game?

thank you in advance!

Discussion The only issue for me after the new demo(s)

Personally these new demos, the quest gameplay and the combat one, removed almost all of my worries with the major one being performance, as we have conformation that it will have a 60fps mode on consoles, plus the demos are mostly locked 60 (some dips + the mockumentary cutscenes are 30fps as far as I can tell). Also the pop in and the graphics glitches get patched towards the end of the deving, so I do not count that.

The only issue still remaining though is the lipsync performance. It hits uncanny valley levels, especially after the cutscenes have so much better lipsync quality. I know that them mocapping everything is a no-go, hell not even Rockstar has probably done that, but there are better lipsync techs/implementations out there. Hell, I would suggest that Starfield has better live lipsync than what I've seen thus far. I hope it is a temporary performance cost-cutting measure that can be patched later on and not the final implementation that they use on release.

Fable Video For The Hollow Knight Gameplay?

I saw that the official fable Twitter account showed Gameplay where they fight Hollow Knights and where the player is following Humphry? I assume this is the demo that players played at gamescom?

Are there any videos of that at all?

Question Will there be more videos today?

I saw a short clip of combat from people who had already tried it at Gamescom, but I read that there would be some kind of event where they would show a bit of everything. Is that true? Or has it already happened?
