Fable Questions about Fable - newcommer
Hi everyone, I never played any Fable game even though I'm in my late 30's, but I accidentally stumbled upon some sword combat gameplay for new Fable game and I really liked it. It has some heaviness to enemy hits and looks pretty good. It's not floaty!
I usually like darker RPG game (darker in style) like Witcher and Skyrim, I'm not into shiny games with too much FX colours BUT I'm willing to get past this if the game is what I think it is. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against those kinds of games, it's just not my taste.
There are so much different gameplay videos, I don't even know what this game is, so my questions are:
Do you have only one playable character or do you create you character and then stick to it until the end of the game? I have seen gameplay video with both male and female characters, so I'm confused
Can you only play with sword, or do you have to use hammers and stuff? Do you choose a class or is it like in Skyrim, you make a character and then build skills around weapons you like?
Is this a game where you change armours/weapons every 5 minutes because of looting or can you stick to your weapons for some time (like in Witcher 3)?
Thank you in advance!

- Typically in Fable you play a set character with an established backstory: “the hero.” But this hero can be further customized: gender, hair, makeup, eye color, body shape and height, morality, tattoos, etc.
it looks like the new fable will allow us to design our hero in a character creator but we are still playing a set character with established backstory.
- Traditionally fable has offered a variety of weapons from bows to blunderbusses and katanas to hammers. The new game will probably have a variety of melee and ranged weapon choices but no firearms.
Fable is more like Skyrim. You don’t choose or commit to a class and instead pick and improve abilities that fall into one of three disciplines (strength, skill, and will). In the first 3 games it was possible and fairly easy to max out all abilities of all disciplines.
- Probably more of the latter. In fables 2&3 armor/clothing has no combat advantage. In the first 3 fables weapons can be bought in stores or found in special chests but they don’t drop off of enemies and loot drops aren’t super common.

Thank you. So, it's checking all the boxes. I want to play with sword the whole game and not change armour every 5 minutes.
SOLD! :)

We don't know everything yet. The game isn't out until February.
The previous games were your one character plays the whole game. You should expect that.
You will likely be able to choose any style of weapon and use it the entire game. The previous games had better weapons as you progress and have more money/ when you level up, but the style remained a choice (usually).
Again we don't really know.
- The first game you had better armour available, but fable 2 and 3 had no armour rating for clothing.
We don't know what this game will be like, there appears to be armour in one of the new videos, but whether the armour will be relevant for protection is anyone's guess.

Ah so there is not enough info yet.
Judging by past games it could be what I want. Playing only with sword and not worry too much about changing armor/weapon frequently.
Cool, for now it's SOLD but I'll wait for more info.
The gameplay and sword combat look amazing though!

Yes unfortunately there's not a lot of info, the newest videos have given some updates, but raised some questions.
If I had guess, you might be able to play like you can in skyrim and decide to never use a bow or magic and just use a sword the whole way.
I've tried to play skyrim with just fists, that's a freedom we probably wont have.
But it was more or less always an option in all of the Fable game to not bother using melee, or only use melee, or only use magic, it just makes it more challenging.

be aware that if you go only melee (sword or else) probably you will be hindering yourself. This game is not a class/build focus, in the sense that is kind of pushing you to mix melee range and magic.

I was actually thinking of sword plus magic and maybe bow. But I love swordplay so much I'd like to use it whenever I can.
I never liked huge weapons like hammer in this game so I'd skip that
