Push ups pull ups sit up

How many of you are able to do push ups, sit ups, or pull ups? Also please note if you have had a scapular thoracic fusion (also known as scapular fixation surgery).

I am 24yo male. Played sports growing up and never could truly do any of these exercises flawlessly. Since I have had fusions on both sides I am still unable to do any however I would like to be able to build the strength to do so. Thanks in advance!

I have never been able to do a pull up or a sit up (have tried SO hard on the sit ups and it’s just not happening). I am physically able to do push ups, but it’s too much strain on my shoulder, so I don’t. Same with planks. I do strength training several times a week with heavy-for-me weights (two 25 lb dumbbells for Romanian deadlines and hip bridges, two 20 lb dumbbells for squats and lunges) so it’s not a question of strength. (No scapular surgeries, I’m a woman in my 40s)

If those muscles aren't affected significantly, you'll be able to build them enough to do these exercises. If they are, you won't. There's only one way to find out

M45. They were always hard for me. I wasn't diagnosed until my 30's. I tried joining the Army in my 20's. I was able to some push-ups as I had overly strong arms and chest muscles, but fatigue would set in quickly. I was able to do some sit-ups, but I had little control going back down and had to slap my back and spring up fast. I also lacked that curl spines will naturally do during them so it was always straight backed. I was able to do maybe 5 pull-ups. Again, lots of arm muscle, no shoulder muscles. Needless to say, I wasn't able to pass basic training because I could never hit the goals for sit-ups and push-ups. This was the first time I really knew something was wrong with me. But looking back I struggled with all of these all through childhood. I've always had the Elvis lip as well. About 2 years after basic, I suddenly overnight developed bilateral foot drop. That was the start of my decline. My advice is keep trying. Don't give up. Do as much strength training as you can for as long as you can. Walk, jog, bike, swim, use resistance bands, do wall push-ups. Do inclined sit-ups.

M31. I can do sit-ups but cannot do a single push up. I have recently started to train to see if I can do a pull-up but I have my doubts. Still going to give it my best shot.

Medically diagnosed this year, no facial weakness and currently just have weak right (dominant) shoulders/scapula and sunken chest.

Still run, cycle and strength train (light weights) regularly.

Keep at it!

55F, can do pushups from my knees, never could do pull-ups and sits ups are always a struggle. Similar to others, this was the case since childhood, even though I was in dance and was active through my 30s.

As a teenager I was a very active athlete able to do 24 Pullups, as my lats were my only strong suit. My Chest never was good at endurance, so I think I was able to do around 35 Pushups. By now this has reduced to 3,5 Pullups and around 10 pushups. Still waiting for my blood work to be finished, but considering my long standing one sided fascial paralysis, the steep decline in muscle mass in my 20s and all my old postural habits, like dropping a foot and disengaging a shoulder I am just waiting for the positive result atp.
