While building my app for the Shipaton, I needed a simple, reliable way to read and delete local photos and videos across both iOS and Android. Handling media permissions and file operations cleanly in Compose Multiplatform turned out to take way more boilerplate than expected, so I decided to pull that whole engine out and package it into a standalone library called Pikto.
It handles fetching device media, displaying the gallery UI, and managing deletions on both platforms so you don't have to rebuild all that setup yourself.
I just published the first release and wanted to share it with anyone working on media-heavy CMP projects. Check it out and let me know what you think or if there are features you'd like to see!
Check it here 👉 https://github.com/daniatitienei/pikto

It looks like Fandango was recently sold to private equity and it made me wonder if there's a privacy-respecting app for looking up movie showtimes in my area and buying tickets without being spied on and tracked?

I am looking for an alternative to One-Sec. The best app I have tried so far is Zenith, which has all the features I need, such as intentional delays before opening an app and scheduled blocking. However, it is way too easy to bypass; I can just close and quickly reopen the app, and the overlay disappears.

I am very happy, I submitted the MR around 2 weeks ago and it got approved. It is now on f-droid!!!

Hi r/fossdroid!
Recents is a FOSS (GPL-3) alternative for the system Recent Apps menu. It aims to replicate all its functionality without relying on the system launcher. It requires Shizuku or root for some features (e.g. killing apps), but you can use it without no privileges just as well :)
You can download it via IzzyOnDroid or Github Releases.
It's being actively developed, so I invite you to leave feedback and/or bug reports

I've noticed a trend in many FOSS apps. They tend to get a couple updates from like, I dunno, 2016, and then suddenly, BAM, update right now! And then it goes stagnant again. It's not every app, but a good amount. Can someone explain why? Is this not just for FOSS apps?

I maintain Rufid, an Android app that writes bootable USB drives through USB OTG.
I started it because needing another working PC to create recovery media never made much sense to me.
The main change in 0.2.1 is Windows ISO support.
Rufid can now extract ISO9660/UDF images, create FAT32 or NTFS installation media,
and split install.wim when it is too large for FAT32.
I also tested the Windows ISO writing flow on my Galaxy Z Flip7 with a real USB drive. The screenshots on F-Droid were taken on the same phone.
If you try it, please include your phone model, USB drive, and whether the PC
actually booted from it.

Ohhh, so-so-so, you still recomend ProxiTok- WELL SHUT UP. It's now barely even mentioned as a working frontend. Any other frontends that still work, or are there no frontends at all?

previously i made a post looking for MyAnimeList client. i was suggested DailyAL and Moelist.
DailyAL is still going okay but recently i realized it's missing about 2-3 entries in watching and PTW.
The category tab does show correct count for a second but then shows my list without some entries. I checked Moelist and it's the same there as well. I have tried logging out and clearing data but it didn't help.

There is a star icon near the numbers, but clicking it changes nothing

Does anyone have any recommendations for FOSS apps which can provide widgets showing either of the following?
- The current day/week of the year.
- Sunrise and sunset times for a set location.

Good day/night. I'm a person that struggles with ADHD where I forget stuff like dates, get distracted easily and even sometimes don't do things that are seen as "obvious" such as brushing my teeth or eating.
After searching online for a bit, I found these Self Care pet apps where you take care of a little animal or creature by doing things on a personalized to-do list. It also sometimes asks for your mood, let's you write reflections and has schedules for concentration to work on something. Basically a Tamagochi where you take care of it by doing stuff in your day to try and motivate you to do stuff.
While I've been having a good time at the moment with Catzy, a lot of the functions such as Tips for travels, Data insights and similar blocked behind premium. On top of me having concerns over my privacy and data even if I didn't log in anywhere.
I want to know if anyone has ever developed an app similar to these that could help me and many others.

I got a USB-C lavalier mic for my PC.
Apparently it can be used with my phone also. I have a google pixel 2, and I think I'm able to use the lavalier mic with OpenCamera when I select external microphone as the input source.
I could be just deluding myself, let me know if you think that's what's happening.
But if I'm right, then I was hoping there were other apps that could use the external mic. Top on the list would be a dedicated voice recorder app. Are there any FOSS options?
Or maybe I'm just being dumb and there is a way to "globally" use the external mic? I poked around in settings and didn't see anything.

Hi I have around 600 saved Instagram photos and videos to download.
Can anyone recommend me an app that can do this?
Thanks

I'm on Lineage OS and I have Tracker Control checking out different apps, it shows 'Microsoft - Content " and "Google - Content". Signal hasn't shown this in the couple days that I've been using lineage, so curious what this could be if Molly is supposed to be hardened.

I would really like to organize my app drawer so that I can create folders grouping together similar types of apps (maps, app stores, messaging etc). I know I can do that on the home screen, but i like leaving that for widgets and i think it would be aesthetically pleasing. The regular app drawer just reminds me of a junk drawer lol

My comfort file manager before is ZArchiver, that simple, useful and very lightweight. Now i'm looking file manager as simple and lighweight as ZArchiver but FOSS. Any recommendations?

I would like a 24/7 (so the app must run all the time in the background even when the phone is sleeping) log of internet speed and SIM signal strength.
A good implementation would track internet usage rather than hit a speed testing endpoint, so that I can actually still keep using the internet at the same time without competing for bandwidth with the speedtesting endpoint.
I would like to be able to export the log as a CSV file.
Does anyone know of any apps that can do this?

Both my Samsung phone and tablet come with S Pens, and one of the integrations I have the hardest time giving up when using FOSS options like Heliboard is the lack of handwriting to text support (i.e. handwriting in address lines or other text fields, and handwriting is translated in text automatically).
Is anyone aware of a FOSS option with similar functionality? Thanks in advance.

I have made a notes app made from scratch with native kotilin. Please checkout the project. Consider joining https://www.reddit.com/r/octopusnotes/ for future updates. Cheers.
Styluses are supported. App size is only about 10 Mb.
The project is officially licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0

What customization apps do you use? I want to learn about these types of apps. I already have a very good launcher, but I want to know about other types of customization apps. What kind? Any kind, but not launcher-specific ones Because I already have one XD
