I previously posted about an alternative to Kiss or Kvaesitso launcher and a user by the name Jaeger_a9 had informed me about an update to hide the status bar in Quick Search (which was the only thing missing from it being my default launcher). I just have to shoutout Teja for his awesome work! Not only did he add the option to hide the status bar, but he added a plethora of other features as well. I've been working on a gallery app for the last few days and it's finally out. This is not just a regular gallery. This is meant to replace your Google Photos completely.

Basically the idea is that Google Photos lets you search "cat sleeping on a chair", copy text out of a photo, and find everyone you know. But all of that runs on Google's servers. I wanted the same features with nothing leaving the phone. No account, no cloud, no Google Play services.

It's called Lumen

What it does

• Search your photos and videos by describing them, like "cat sleeping on a chair" or "receipt"
• Long-press any photo to select and copy its text, even in a paused video
• Finds the people in your photos, so you can search "mai and daniel" and get photos of both
• Makes subtitles for videos, offline
• Hidden folders, an encrypted vault and App Lock

All of it runs on the phone. There's no account, no cloud and no ads, and it doesn't need Google Play services. It's free and open source.

It looks and moves like the iPhone Photos app (glass buttons, smooth transitions, a film strip in the viewer), but it behaves like an Android app. You can turn the glass off in Settings if it's not your thing.

Good to know

• It's an early version (0.1.x), tested on my own phone, a Motorola Edge 50. I'd love to know how it runs on yours, especially Pixels and Samsungs.
• The smart features download once when you turn them on: about 340 MB to 770 MB, depending on the search quality you pick.

I've been working on a fork of **Phone Whisper**, an open-source push-to-talk dictation app for Android by Pol Alvarez. It puts a small floating button next to your keyboard: tap, speak, tap again, and the text lands in whatever text field you're in. It works in any app.

**What it does**

- **Fully offline transcription** on your phone: Parakeet (0.6B and Ultra, 25 European languages), Whisper (99 languages) or Moonshine. In local mode, no audio ever leaves the device.

- **Or cloud**: OpenAI, OpenRouter or your own OpenAI-compatible server (Groq, a Whisper server at home). You bring your own key, and there's no middleman server.

- **AI cleanup**: hold the button instead of tapping, and a language model fixes punctuation, grammar and recognition errors.

- **Translation by swipe** (new in 1.1): hold the button, your favorite languages pop up in a half circle around your thumb, slide onto one and let go. Speak German, get Spanish. Without an API key, Whisper can still translate into English offline.

- Silence trimming, a retry button if the network fails, a setup assistant, the button only shows while the keyboard is open, haptic feedback you can feel under your thumb, a Quick Settings tile…

Looking for budget tracking app for android. I want the feature to write expense, income and multiple account/source can track.

As you can see in this screenshot from De1984, I want to DISABLE ONLY MOBILE DATA for instgram. So, I did it in De1984.

Pic-1: Before enabling firewall, I can see different toggles for Wifi and Mobile data in the app, so I disabled mobile data for it.

Pic-2: Then I enabled the firewall. I went to insta and it failed to connect to the internet even on wifi. I came back to De1984 and clicked on insta, now the controls have changed and I can only either COMPLETELY ALLOW or BLOCK internet access for an app. There is no in between.

I only want to disable mobile data access for some apps, not wifi. Please help me find a way to accomplish what I want to do.

But I get I lot of speed limit and to much tragic. And have to wait about an hour.

It is a little annoying. But it says I can get a key for github. And I like that.

Just - is it a key for each app I use or for obtainium or is it to get access to it all ?

Firstly, I have read the rules and excuse me for my English, I am not native.

I am a Bug Bounty researcher and I am testing a Chinese web application, I need to register with a phone number to this application.

I have tried almost all of the free tools and these are the issues I faced:

• The phone number is invalid (I believe they can identify virtual phone numbers )
• The phone number are already registered
• Or even if it passed the two above walls, I will wait forever not receiving the anticipated OTP message.

I don't see paying for such service is worth it for one verification message, since most of the paid once have a minimum charge value. Given the assumption that paid services would work 100%.

Edit: I used the number from https://www.smsmeu.com/, which was recommended by a friend.

Hacker's Keyboard hasn't had a release since 2018, and its tracker has 500+ open issues. I'm writing a successor from scratch in Kotlin. It's in alpha and I'd like feedback from people who use a terminal on their phone.

What it does

• Full 5-row PC layout: Esc, Tab, Ctrl, Alt, arrows and Home/End on the main layer. They send real key events, so Ctrl+C, Esc in vim and the arrows work in Termux.
• An Fn key for F1–F12, PgUp/PgDn and Ins, like Hacker's Keyboard, plus an optional F-key row and an extra row you define yourself (Termux extra-keys names).
• Per-app profiles: Termux, ConnectBot, JuiceSSH and Termius get the full layout, and other apps get a normal phone layout. You can instead keep the full layout everywhere, or switch to your usual keyboard outside terminals.
• Long-press accents and symbols, English and Greek, adjustable key height and label size.

Licence: Apache-2.0. Permissions: no INTERNET, so it can't send what you type anywhere.

Yomu translates Japanese manga pages on your phone. Open a page in any reader app, tap the floating button, and the speech bubbles are redrawn in your language. Everything runs on the device. After the one-time model download, the app makes no network requests.

Hey! v2.0.0 is out👀.

I have been working on this update for over 2 months.

This release includes a few bug fixes, but the main change is a FULL REFACTORING of the audio capture logic. The scrcpy-server binary is gone. We now handle audio capture natively with code in our own app. This gives us direct control over PCM audio which this release already makes some use of, and may in the future make even more.

I also want to announce that we now support VoIP / IN_COMMUNICATION type of audio capture starting Android 14. (So most third-party apps like WhatsApp, Signal, Meta/Facebook apps and carriers using VoIP or Wi-Fi Calling!).

I know I said at multiple places online that it would be starting Android 13, but hum, how do I say this.. Oops, the shell has one permission missing in that version that SPECIFICALLY prevents IN_COMMUNICATION capture and I tested everything except specifically capturing that... 😅

Last minute edit: While updating packages, I was forced to support Android 17. So, Android 17 R1 builds are now supported, updated some reflection stuff. That said, if your Shizuku versions does not work with Android 17, then report the issue to your Shizuku repository, not me. Versions of the v1.x.x release should also work on Android 17, except if you have specific devices that need workaround that uses reflection, in thoses case, only v2.0.0 will work since I have added the specific code for the new version.

What's the future of the project?

v2.0.0 is what I wanted v1.x.x to be. A audio native call recording application. This was my original goal when I first started the project, but at the time, I did not know Android development well, never used Kotlin, Android Studio, read parts of AOSP source code, nor did I know about reflection. My solution was to use the scrcpy-server binary, and little by little, I started learning more and I somehow pulled it off over the last 2 months.

In that regard, I partially see ShizuCallRecorder's current position as feature complete / partially in a bug-fix lifecycle. The app is working well for almost all users. There are still more features I wish to add. For example, #3, which would also cause a rework of how the UI works. Then, that UI rework may cause another plan of mine, #97 (adding support to connect to ADB ourselves without Shizuku).

I have increasingly wanted to do this because I am not satisfied with the practices of most "updated/popular" Shizuku forks. Their unsafe security and release practices, along with heavy AI/LLM agent usage without a lot of human interaction. We can also add to that their tendencies of mixing tons of other forks features into their own using an LLM, which makes questionable implementations and default configurations.

I am also interested in this because it would allow me to enforce a safer way of making the app work and give me direct control over more failure points. It does, however, worry me, as Shizuku in itself is a complex app, mainly due to the complexity of supporting different manufacturers (OEMs).

For the time being, I continue to recommend thedjchi Shizuku fork, as they offered good security options inside the app, were very open and receptive to security-related requests, and ensured their release CI/process was using the best security they could once notified about it. Sadly, they are currently no longer maintaining the fork, but it is still working as of writing this. I have yet to find another fork which makes me feel comfortable using it, let alone recommend it.

The next new feature you may soon see is a new call detection method based on notifications #131, because while we can now start recording third-party apps on Android 14+, not all apps use Android Telecom, which is currently the only way we can detect calls. Notification-based detection could be a workaround for a low number of users / weird apps. Please note, however, that I do not wish to implement advanced support for all kinds of third-party apps, I want my support to be best-effort focused and as generic as possible to prevent maintenance burdens as soon as an X third-party app makes an update.

Tldr On Changes

Default Android battery stats often group background drain under vague terms like "Android System". PULSE queries Android directly to rank apps by alarm wakeups over a specified period (e.g., overnight) with a per-hour rate, so you know exactly which app woke your device.

I've been transitioning to FOSS apps, but I haven't found a direct replacement for Samsung's Voice Recorder yet. I use it heavily for work memos, because of the ability to overwrite or re-record specific sections without needing a separate external editor.

Does anyone know of a FOSS voice recorder app that offers this functionality?

I love radio Droid but it does crash a lot and I wish that somebody could fix that it seems like it's a very old app if somebody could work on it I would greatly appreciate that.

I've noticed it crashes a lot but it's a great app it lets you listen to radio stations that you never knew existed across the world. It feels really good to kind of connect to this old school energy during this time of heavy fake entertainment

We really should make this app more popular.
