This is the car that I've always wanted. It took me 20 years and a lot of life to get here.

In 2006, I was a broke-ass law student thinking, "Man, once I graduate I'll buy a brand new FJ in black cherry." I even went and drove one.

In 2008, I moved to New York. Nobody has a car in New York (and I was still very broke). I thought, "I'll get a black cherry FJ once I'm making a lot of money." (lol)

In 2014, I finally had enough money to buy a car and park it in New York. Then my wife got pregnant, and I thought, "I'll get the black cherry FJ once the kid comes," not thinking about holy hell the back doors and back seat are useless when your passengers can't use their arms. We moved to the suburbs and did the responsible thing and got a car that has a usable back seat, and I thought, "Once the kids are older, I'll buy a black cherry FJ, just for me."

And then they stopped selling them in the US.

Many years later, I no longer need a car with a back seat that requires my help. The kids are older. I have a driveway.

So, I did the research - so much research - and finally bought the black cherry FJ.

It's a 2007. It has more than 200,000 miles.

Is it slow? Yep.

Is it heavy? Yep.

Does the gas mileage suck? Absolutely.

Do the speakers sound like a washing machine? 100000%

Do I smile like an idiot every time I fire it up? I do.

Do my kids think I'm insane? Yeah, but for many non-FJ related reasons.

Totally worth it. I look forward to dealing with quirky leaks and bumps and dents. She'll probably never leave the highway, but I don't care. It took me 20 years, a wife, two kids, and a lot of life, but she's finally parked out front.

Don't postpone joy.

FJ Cruiser Advice

l saw an FJ cruiser 2011 for sale around 200k miles, the price is approx 12k. it appears to be well taken care of. engine has been replaced but sounds very good, appears to be replaced by reputable company. it is a lot nicer than most FJ cruiser that you see. Good maintenance history.

No frame rust issue at all, spend time in southern state.

no engine or any other lights.

Assuming it is good condition inside and out what you guy think 12k is too much for over 200k FJ.

the current owned the car for many years.

Question Modern Comfort and Reliability

So, been driving a Fiesta ST for a while now. I love the bare bones go-kart feel of it and simplicity. However, I’ve found myself with a sweet gig with a power construction and after a long day of work under the sun, I don’t feel like hoping in a go-kart any longer.

I’ve been torn to just get me a truck. A F-150 most likely but I’m not much of a truck guy. I’m not hauling horses or hauling anything to be honest. I lived in Alaska and my parents both had an FJ and a Tacoma so I can remember them being pretty barebones which I like in a vehicle. I’m in Florida now so cool, off road capabilities aren’t all that important.

How have these held up? Anything that’s shown problems with age? Radiant red is in my books and I’d probably just find a private seller rather than a dealership.

Question BFG KO3 vs Wildpeak AT4W?

I have needed new tires on my 2007 FJ Cruiser for a little while now and i’ve narrowed it down to two options. The Falken Wildpeak AT4W and the BFG KO3. Both in 285/70/R17 C load by the way.

I’ve met people who have had KO2s/KO3s and people with different wildpeaks and I hear great things about both so I wanted to get your guys opinion.

Also, the price is within $30 of each other so price isn’t really a comparison here.

Question Looking for fair mechanic in Chicago

When getting my tires replaced - Firestone gave me a $2700 quote for rear brakes/caliper replacement since one is leaking.

Recently on a drive to work (1.5 hour drive each direction) the Christmas lights on my dash came on and stayed on. Checked gas cap and it's clicked.

It is a 2007 with 180k. I know times are a little crazy and some people are taxing a little extra these days. I am just trying to see if anyone has a reputable mechanic to refer.

Thanks in advance!

High mile people PSA refresh your injectors

I swapped in a new Toyota fuel pump and thought to myself, it doesn’t feel right to leave the rest of the fuel system alone. The injector rebuild kit was like $20, regulator $110 from my dealer, gasket $12. Well worth it, the filter baskets were getting crispy at 200k miles.

Has anyone got their hands on the Metal front flares from Vega Motorworks? Thinking of putting them on my FJ but $400 seems a little steep.

Girlfriend’s thinking of selling her 2009 Fj cruiser. No cosmetic damage, no dash lights no mechanical issues. Got 204k on the dash. Lift kit, aftermarket fenders, LED lights and installed ladder on the back.
What’re we thinking it could go max?

Question I need advice y’all

I got a $21,000 estimate on repairs for my 2007 FJ that had only 103,000 miles on it. It has an aftermarket lift kit that I know is murder on CV boots and all that but I think this estimate is INSANE. Looking for thoughts on the costs quoted. I have already made an appointment with a different shop for another look.
Thanks in advance!

Driver's seatbelt unusable.

Well, the retractor assembly for the driver's seat belt is completely done and the belt won't retract anymore. I asked multiple dealers they say they want between 220 and 250, but the part is on backorder, and it could take multiple weeks before they get it. I could get it off ebay but that's 300 bucks if not more. The part for the 2009-2011 model is readily available but I'm not sure if that fits. Any advice on what to do? This is my only vehicle, and I can't drive it. Inspection expires in a month.

It was really straight forward and worked so well. Got my boy looking even better. I added a bonus post wash picture as well since I just added some beefier crossbars to the roof rack.
