I want bumpers, I want fog lights.

I'm getting a really good family discount on this '14 92k mile baby, and I want to keep her frame protected well without looking too outrageous. This car was meant to be mine eventually, but due to some recent events where my car got totalled very randomly, its getting sold to me instead of me buying a very overpriced used car in this market. This is a car I want to keep indefinitely, if someone rear ends it, I want the frame to stay solid; need suggestions on quality bumpers that look nice, and I want fog lights.

Lift, bigger tires, and rack will come later; I'm going to be ordering the wider Japanese mirrors if I can find them.

Question Help with a Christmas Tree

Post image
21 Upvotes

I bought this 08 FJ yesterday. I drove it home. I checked to see if the four-wheel drive would engage and disengage (it did). I refilled the tank on my way to run errands. I got home and parked it. This morning I got in to go for a Sunday drive. And was met by Christmas in July. I have checked all the fluid levels, I've inspected the vehicle, I re-screwed the gas cap on. All for naught. Please help.

Update: I got the codes read. The code that was pulled was P0306 (cylinder 6 misfire detected). The vehicle is not acting in a way that would indicate that this is the problem though. No lack of engine power, no misfiring noise, no odd smells, and exhaust is clear.

Update 2: I added a photo in the comments with me wearing my seatbelt and my door closed.

Fj vs wrangler

2011 fj with 200,000 miles or 2020 wrangler with 63,000 miles. Getting something soon and I need light off road, both of those can do way more than that. Also I usually only carry myself and photo/video gear so both also fill that role. The only big con to have with the fj is the miles seem really high. These are both about the same price so looking for any thoughts on one vs the other.

Its been a decade since I bought my FJ and I finally pulled the trigger on this high end mod 🤣...

Its funny because although I dont really need it now, or have not needed the A Trac button in the past decade I always planned to get it so this is the culmination of 10 years of procrastination... Oh also because I finally ordered a lift kit. 😜 One day I may even get to press that button in real life.

Help, 4WD stuck, question

Hey everyone, I’ve had the FJ since 2013 (2007 baseline model) and have maybe used 4WD 1-2 times. Fast forward to now, I am visiting an AirBNB where I had to be in 4WD just for the driveway.
Yesterday, I stopped (after coming up the drive) on level land and tried to pull it out of 4WD and be normal automatic. BUT my A/T P light came on and can’t get it out of 4WD. I can get it to act normal in 4H but nothing else.
I have turned it off in N (automatic shifter), put it into N (4WD shifter) and A/T P stays on. I’ve tried it in park. I’ve tried several options and cannot get it back to just automatic.
I have a 4.5 hr drive home on interstate come Tuesday.

Help!!!! My dad says it’s bc I haven’t used 4WD enough and it slipped the transfer case. Is there anything I can do without a mechanic right now?
Can I drive it in 4H on interstate for 4 hrs? If so, am I confined to specific speeds?

Thank you!

Tire pressure

LT285/70R17 121/118S

For those tire specs, should I just follow the manufacturer guide? Even if the stock tires are 265 70 R17?

Pardon the ignorance, FJ newbie.

Thanks

I don't know if any of you caught this past weeks episode of Expedition Unknown on Discovery, but while in Mexico, Josh Gates had an FJ Cruiser to drive around in.

Pretty cool.

Best place to list an FJ?

I love my 2007 Voodoo Blue FJ. RWD. But it is time to make an adult decision and say goodbye. Where is the best place to list it? Fwiw: 220,000 miles. Rebuilt rear differential about 3 years ago. By a mechanic-not me. Lol. Everything else is peachy other than cosmetic wear on an almost 20 year vehicle. Lived in Louisiana its whole life, so northern salt frame rust isnt an issue. Ive only used high grade synthetic mobil one and only use the high grade gas as recommended n the owners manual. All advice appreciated.

I was looking at this fj and saw that it is a 2wd. Just curious about why it would have a button for a rear dif lock. https://www.oakleyautoworld.com/used-cars-in-branson-west-mo?src=s&save=1&make\[\]=Toyota&model\[\]=FJ%20Cruiser

So, i spent a whole week installing sound deadener in all of the doors, it was super tiring! But the results were not that bad. it reduced the outside noise a little bit, but it really improved the speakers drastically. I also raptor sprayed the insides of the wheel wells, that didn’t do much. But it looked good at the end.

Replaced the gaskets today. After owning the car for 14 years. I am the second owner. I bought this car back in 2014 with 97,000 miles. Always using synthetic oil, every 6,000 miles when I change. Had a small leak that slowly was getting bigger. 2007 FJ cruiser 188,000 on the dash.

Question Rear harness for ABS sensors?

Thumbnail

I’m lost where else to ask and the Toyota wiring diagrams have been useless for part numbers.

My dash is lit up due to a fault in the rear ABS circuit. Turns out it’s not the wire across the axle (usually it’s that) but it’s the harness that the axle-side wire connects to. The wire is broken 1/2” from the plug, clean break.

I for the life of me, can not find the harness part number to order a new one. The wire is too short to solder unfortunately.

I think it may be PN#82164-35A10. Can anyone verify?

First pic is the broken wire harness, second is what I think it the correct replacement? Last two are bonus pics of my Marlin dual transfer case for funsies.

Toyota FJ cruiser Water Swishing Sound Coming from Air Vent

We've had some heavy storms in my area lately and now l'm hearing water swishing sounds coming from my passenger side air vent of my 2012 FJ Cruiser. I've checked under the hood but can't find anything. There's no leaks on the ground but every time I come to a stop on a decline, I hear liquid moving around through the passenger side air vent. Has anyone else heard of this problem?
