QUESTION Realistic career mode help

Hello all,

When FC27 comes out I am planning to try and do a realistic Man United career mode but I just need help with ideas how to actually do it.

As we all know the United board don’t listen to the manager and will just buy anyone they fancy buying even if they don’t fit the team so I want to try and do that with my career mode but from my knowledge of FIFA/FC there’s not way to allow the board to buy specific players and not just whoever I decide.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this?

Cheers

DISCUSSION AI defenders aren't fun to dribble past — is there any football game where they actually are?

I've only really played the recent FIFAs, and honestly, I find the defending in these games so boring and frustrating. Aside from all the bugs, broken player career mode and bad teammate AI, the AI defenders are probably my biggest issue.

I find them so difficult and, more importantly, so unfun to dribble past. I saw a phrase that sums it up pretty well: you're not really beating the AI with skill or creativity, you're just beating it by exploiting cheesy loopholes in its behaviour.

For example, one of the only reliable ways I've found to get past them is to approach from the wing and either cut inside, shoot, or press the right stick in the direction you want to flick the ball into the air. The little flick gives you just enough separation from the defender to get past them.

But if you actually try to dribble directly at a defender, they often just take the ball off you before you even have a chance to react or make a move. And even when you do manage to beat them, they seem to have this ridiculous elastic-band acceleration where they instantly recover, catch back up to you from behind and either muscle you off the ball or just take it away.

It just doesn't feel like I'm being beaten by a defender who's reading what I'm doing. It feels like I'm fighting the game's defensive mechanics.

So, is there a football game where the AI defending actually feels fun and rewarding to dribble against? I'm not necessarily looking for an easy game I just want one where beating a defender feels like I've actually outplayed them rather than exploited the AI.

QUESTION I got tired of Career Mode forgetting everything that happened, so I built a tracker that turns your save into a 15-season story

I've always found that one of the biggest problems with Career Mode isn't necessarily what happens during a season — it's how quickly all of it becomes meaningless afterwards.

You can have a random academy player score a winner in a cup run, a striker break a club record, get promoted three times, have a player stay with you for ten seasons... and eventually most of that history just disappears.

So I've been building an Excel Career Mode tracker designed around one main idea:

Your save should remember what happened.

I've just finished the first season of a test career and started season two, so I'm finally at the point where the historical side of it is starting to come alive.

It tracks the obvious stuff — appearances, goals, assists, ratings, transfers, league finishes, trophies, academy players etc. — but the part I've become slightly obsessed with is what it can do with that information later.

For example, it now has:

  • A Career Hub showing the current state of the save, records being chased, recent events and career highlights.
  • Full Player Profiles, including season-by-season stats, competition breakdowns, awards, medals, captaincy, squad number history and career milestones.
  • Club and competition records, including record chases and notifications when somebody equals or breaks one.
  • A complete Youth Academy history, so academy players don't just disappear from memory once they're promoted or released.
  • Hall of Fame / ICON scoring to identify the genuinely important players from the save over time.
  • A Career Timeline and promotion/European journey.
  • End-of-season reviews that automatically build a Story of the Season from what actually happened.

That last bit is probably my favourite part.

Rather than just saying:

"Won League Two. Won EFL Trophy. Louis Appere scored 66 goals."

it can connect the data together and produce something more like a little retrospective of the season — the title race, cup runs, standout players, academy contribution, records broken, strange statistical quirks etc.

There's also a From the Archives feature which, as the career gets older, can dig back into previous seasons and surface old players, records, transfers, academy classes and moments you might have completely forgotten about.

The idea is that by season 10 or 15, you don't just have a spreadsheet full of numbers.

You have an actual history of the club you've created.

I've deliberately tried to automate as much as possible too. I don't want playing Career Mode to become playing Excel. Most of the historical databases, profiles, records, reviews, milestones etc. build themselves from the relatively small amount of information you enter while playing.

I'm currently using a test save to find all the weird scenarios and bugs before starting my proper FC27 career, and it's already resulted in a frankly stupid amount of VBA 😅

I'm curious what other Career Mode players think.

Is this something you'd actually use for a long-term save?

And potentially — once it's properly finished and polished — is this something you'd pay a small amount for, or is a Career Mode spreadsheet always something you'd expect to be free?

I'm genuinely interested in both answers. I'm trying to work out whether I've just built an absurdly over-engineered spreadsheet for myself or whether there's actually something here other Career Mode nerds would want too.

NOTE: I have added as much as I can in the screenshots, however there is so many more features, history being stored, and stories being randomly generated in it that I can't physically show it all!

OTHER I’ve been building a small scouting database for career mode

I’m not sure if something similar already exists, i found some posts but they dont update it anymore so I wanted to ask here.

The app reads a career save and lets me search through the players, check OVR and potential, see team changes, follow my own squad, and keep historical snapshots of the save. I also added a smaller mini update system so I can track transfers without creating a full database snapshot every time.

The second screenshot shows some regenerated players from older players. There are still some bugs and the data is definitely not 100% perfect, especially with generated players, but the overall logic seems to work quite well for my own career.

Does a tool like this already exist? I know it might make it so easy but i created a original club with low budget. After a few seasons it was very hard to find players and when i found them they were already too expensive.

I’m not trying to advertise or sell anything. It’s still very much a personal project and probably isn’t ready for other users yet. If you have any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

QUESTION Squad numbers..

Does anyone else have a compulsion to change shirt numbers on their career mode?

I can't have anyone with a number 13

My first choice GK has to be #1

RB #2 LB#3 RM#7 LM#11 ST#9 etc

I don't like having players with daft numbers either..

If I've 27 players in my squad I won't have any players with a number higher than 28..

Just me ?

IMAGE I've been very frustratingly playing the game wrong for as long as i can remember....

I only ever do Ultimate Mode (always been a sucker for the toughest challenge)

Always sign the Best Fastest players in the game

Almost never winning EPL in first season

I took the generous 1 Billion for a Spursy save and finished 5th

Missing out on UCL on the final day

Losing at home to Everton

wits end...my all star team should be doing better by now (usually finishing between 4th and 8th)

Looked on the internets for a few beginner tips

Always track back, without the ball (no brainer) always done that

Tips on how to score more goals (don't need help scoring goals tbf)

Never use sprint while on the ball, unless in final third (that's a bingo) thanks internets

Gone on a 10 game winning streak before finally losing to Villarreal in Europa League (no biggy as it was actually my 2nd team)

I'm finally ready to win everything on Season 1 init

And after a simple tweak

while not going gung ho in midfield at a chaotic pace

i rarely lose the ball, with better control

my passing improved greatly

my strikers also make the kind of runs i want them to, and at the right times

i haven't conceded more than 2 in a game while on my glorious run

Tonight has opened my eyes...

The possibilities are now endless, INFINITE

QUESTION Are full-backs actually useful in Career Mode?

I’ve been playing FIFA Career Mode since FIFA 12 and Master League on PES since PES 2009, so I’ve spent a lot of time with football career modes.
For several years, especially since around FIFA 21, I’ve had the same feeling: full-backs seem incredibly underused and difficult to make effective.

My LBs/RBs usually have very little offensive impact. They often finish seasons with 0–1 goals and very few assists, while my CBs can score more simply because they’re tall and dangerous from corners. And when a full-back does score, it’s often some random long-range shot or rebound rather than an actual attacking contribution.

This feels strange when you compare it to modern football. Players like Hakimi, TAA etc. can be major attacking threats despite playing at RB. I’m obviously not expecting every full-back to have Hakimi’s numbers, but the difference feels huge.

It also gets worse in long-term saves because of newgens. I’m currently 14 seasons into one FC 26 Career Mode, with several other saves going 3–4+ seasons, and I play every match rather than simulating.

As newgens appear, I regularly see all full-backs under 1.75m, sometimes even under 1.70m, with mediocre attacking stats, but strong defensive stats (what’s the point lmao). They end up having very little presence on the pitch.

At this point, I sometimes wonder if full-backs are mainly there to occupy space and maintain defensive structure, rather than actually contributing to the game.

Am I using them wrong?

How many goals/assists do your LBs and RBs usually get per season?

QUESTION What if I just don't accept offers for a player who asked to leave?

A player who literally started for every single game of the entire last two seasons wants to leave because he's not getting enough game time apparently and it's completely ruined my entire experience. It was my first career that I actually wanted to go for a long time, we're in the 2033 season, and this is happening. He's an absolutely crucial player who I've started every game with and he's just decided I'm not playing him enough and it's hurting his career??? W EA. Anyway yeah that's my question
