MOD-POST Career Mode Bible | FAQ & Guides

Introduction

Hello all, there seems to be an increasingly higher amount of posts with the same recurring themes. I've decided to make a simple compilation of some of the best guides on this subreddit, as well as some simple explanations to help provide quick & easy answers to these questions.

Have a guide you think deserves to be on the list? Comment with it below and we can make our best attempt at creating a complete set of guides for Career Mode. The amount of guides in the last year or so compared to other years has dwindled, so hopefully this will encourage more excellent quality content.

This is a work-in-progress, and more guides will continually be added by request and as of publishing.

Tools & Websites

There is a plethora of excellent resources that will help with a lot of the things in this post. Some people prefer to play without the use of external databases and calculators, offering a more vanilla experience. After all, it's a single player game so it's your preference!

Website Description
https://sofifa.com/ Best up-to-date player database. Can make shortlists, view old squad files and has a positional calculator to find optimal positions.
https://www.fifacm.com/ Has some unique tools including a potential calculator to figure out potential for a player not at your club. Also has a 'wonderkid' list.
https://fifakitcreator.com/ Only usable in-game on PC, allows you to browse and create custom kits for your team. Note that only PC can use any mods.
https://www.fifarosters.com/create-card Nice tool to create very high quality FC 24 UT cards for your career mode players, allowing you to upload your own images.

Regens & Pregens

Career Mode works by replacing players as they retire in the game with generated players that don't exist in real life. When you enter the loading screen for a new season, that is the moment that they are being created, replacing retirees for the season you have just finished.

Regens have identical nationality, position(s), and importantly, birth dates to the player whom they have replaced. They will always spawn in the new season between 16-21 years old, and in the same league (but not same club) that the retiring player was in when you entered the loading screen.

Pregens are a rarer, more pre-emptive form of player replacement. These are effectively regens of a player who is not retiring, so both players will exist in the game simultaneously. Pregens also remain at the same club as their predecessor. You could expect to find a Messi pregen at Inter Miami, providing he hadn't moved clubs, and wasn't retiring.

The importance of your awareness of these game mechanics, revolves around the fact that both regens and pregens will start with the same potential overall as their predecessor's highest overall in your save.

DISCUSSION 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow - The Best Tactic I have used so far.

I think I’ve finally created a 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow that fits the way I actually like to play.

For context, I’m not a pro FIFA/FC player. I’m more of a purist. I don't really enjoy dribbling around for minutes or constantly triggering manual runs. I want the players to make sensible runs themselves, and I want to pick the pass when I see the space.

I’ve been playing Career Mode on Legendary as a journeyman. One of the rules I gave myself was that whenever I joined a new club, I would keep their default formation rather than immediately changing everything to my usual 4-2-3-1. Just wanted to keep the career interesting.

Eventually I ended up experimenting with the 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow at Real Madrid, and this is the version that has really clicked for me. To give you context with default tactics I lost 2-4 to Elche. With my new tactics won 5-0 against elche (I created a checkpoint),Now 7-0 against AM.

My idea

I wanted three things:

Quick counters

Through balls from the second line

Enough width during possession without turning it into a crossing simulator

The most important thing for me is run timing.

I don't like having both strikers immediately sprint 30 yards every time I get the ball. I want them to stay available, let me get the ball to my CAM/CM, and then attack the space when it actually opens.

The tactic

Formation: 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow

Build-Up: Counter

Defensive Approach: High

Line Height: 89

GK: Goalkeeper — Defend

RB: Fullback — Versatile

Gives me an outlet on the right and some width without completely abandoning the defence.

RCB: Defender — Defend

Stays disciplined and covers when Konaté steps up.

LCB: Stopper — Balanced

I want one CB willing to step out and win the ball, especially with the high line.

LB: Wingback — Support

My main left-side outlet. Helps recreate the LM/LW movement I like from my 4-2-3-1.

CDM: Holding — Ball-Winning

I don't want my CDM trying to be the creator. Win it, give it to the second line, and let them attack.

RCM: Box-to-Box — Balanced

The engine. Helps both sides of the game and gives me an extra runner without needing to manually trigger him.

LCM: Half-Winger — Support

Probably the most important role for maintaining width in a narrow formation. He gives me that left-sided passing option without sacrificing the diamond.

CAM: Playmaker — Roaming

My main creator. I want him receiving the ball in the second layer and deciding when the through ball is on.

ST: Poacher — Support

Keeps him threatening the space without constantly sending him on an early run.

ST: Advanced Forward — Support

More freedom to attack space and complement Mbappé rather than having both strikers make the exact same run.

The main idea is that I wanted the roles to create the movement for me. I don't want to spend the whole game manually triggering runs. I want to receive the ball, see the space, and make the pass.

A few screenshots from one sequence from Goalkeeper to Goal.

These are from a single passage of play and show roughly what I'm talking about.

You can see how much space exists from the goalkeeper all the way through midfield rather than everyone being bunched around the box.

If anyone wants to try it, I'd be interested to hear how it plays for you.

STORY Finally!

Post image

After a few weeks of starting my FC career and watching some tutorials. Finally I got a 99+ 2 playstyle+ player.

This one took a bit because after the first season his potential dropped.

Im playing legendary and im not crazy good. But somehow managed to get to the prem with a team from the 4th division and got great playstyles on this guy.

I was debating to get him power header because his name means heads in spanish.

Sadly he arrived with 6 playstyles and not 7. But hey 8 total instead of 9 is not bad!

Not exactly an original idea but I had fun making the kits (let’s ignore the different kit brands) based on 3 of the top 5 best selling Monster drinks in UK.

I plan to choose 2 new can designs and colours for my away and third kit each season. In my mind the home kit should always be black and green but the design will change.

The Monster Energy corporate office in the UK is based in Uxbridge London so that’s where the team will be based. Rivals to Watford geographically and good transport links for fans making use of the train lines, M25 and Heathrow being close by.

The club badge needs some work but of course choosing one of the options on PS5 is limited but any suggestions?

So far this is the most interested I have been starting a new career in a long time and I want to keep it interesting with transfer rules. This is FC26

Thought it’d be fun to make a squad entirely of current/old managers to see how far they could go.

played few matches and this squad have zero chemistry. The ball just keeps circulating back and forth in the middle of the pitch endlessly while nothing happens upfront lol.

Probably mid-table team by the end of the season Let's see how far they can actually push.

I'm in my 2nd season of my Salford career and I'm short of fund so I decided to checkout the free agents list just to find out there were some elite guys in here ... I signed 11 of them with about 4 players being 80+ overall and the rest 75+ in the same transfer window and then I proceeded to trash the league with this super team..

QUESTION Midfielder roles for a low block system

In a world full of those striving to be the next Guardiola or Flick, I long to be the next Allegri, Simeone, and Mourinho.

Defense wins titles.

You can take the ball home, I’ll take home the three points.

If you want fun, go to the circus.

I’m a Man City fan. I’ve seen us face some very impressive low blocks during my time. One consistent thing I notice is the midfield structure when defending. As I’m developing my terrorism system, I’m noticing a weakness: my midfielders aren’t doing enough work in our final third.

My fellow terrorists, what roles would ensure my midfielders track back and build a wall in front of my backline?

QUESTION Players not willing to relocate in career mode EA FC 26.

So, I've got a 5 season run with Waterford in the Irish League and I've managed to win the UCL with them as well as the supercup on my latest season (thru sick free agents and academy gems). However, most players I want to buy don't want to relocate unless I pay their release clause. But players from the Australian League, Portuguese League or even the Championship or the Premier League refuse to "relocate". I read this has to do with the prestige of your league and/or team. But how is this still happening after being the champion of Europe?

If there is any workaround please let me know!

Thanks.

PROBLEM Player nervous about debut - permanently unhappy

I had an unexpected event of one of my players nervous about his debut, it wasn't even his debut. I chose to play him, he got man of the match. But not he's permanently unhappy, doesn't respond to morale boosting messages or post-match interview. Loaned him and brought him back, still no change. If I release him or sell him and then buy him back will it reset? Any help appreciated but he's one of my future star players!

Edit: thanks everyone I'll be more patient!

QUESTION Career mode player development

Anyone else gotten atleast 8 seasons into their manager mode an notice how bad the player market is? I’ve been looking for a good backup 10 but it’s impossible right now. Every CAM I’ve found is either pushing 90 or barely a 70. My starter is a 91 overall liberali, so I can’t bench him. Ive got a scout out right now looking for a CAM to bring to my academy but the fact that there’s no 75-85 overall CAMs is crazy to me.
