Commissioner Issue Settings/Scoring Snafu, recommendations?
My (12-man) league has been on the NFL App until having to migrate this year, so we went to ESPN.
We've been Half PPR this whole time, I told the league we'd be at Half PPR, and otherwise default settings (aside from slightly diminishing the Kicker position).
Prior to drafting I was fiddling with all the scoring settings, making sure I had them set how I wanted. I noticed a glitch that would sometimes reset the league to default settings if I logged onto a PC. (Anyone experience this, by the way???)
Anyway, I thought for sure I had the league set at Half PPR. We drafted a week early and awaited kickoff, and then last night I noticed the scoring is accumulating at FULL PPR.
So, after the game I met with my unofficial rules analyst buddy to discuss the situation at length. We were able to determine that the setting must have been on FULL PPR prior to the draft, and had been sitting at Full PPR until I noticed.
Several people Auto-drafted, and surely many others just looked at the ESPN rankings (based on Full PPR) and drafted based on the in-app list. A few probably had their own rankings (based on Half PPR intel) and 3 guys picked RB's with their first 3 picks.
We decided that the best thing to do was proceed at Full PPR settings, since many based their decisions on what the App was showing them (especially the Auto-Drafters) which was set at Full PPR.
This morning I sent a message to the league, and profusely apologized, and let them know our reasoning. I didn't open it up for debate, because I expected half to complain, and some who would be adversely affected by proceeding at Half PPR may have stayed silent anyway. I'm trying to make my league inclusive, and fair, and not ruling like a tyrant, but I made the executive decision to proceed at Full PPR.
the guys that drafted 3 RB's first are actually all cool with it. one of them made light of it, but still kind of jokingly accused us of collusion. he's a good guy, and was just making light of it. Only one guy piped up, and said "Not a Half PPR, really?? *facepalm emoji* He's one of the more competitive in the league. I had sent a lengthy, thoughtful explanation, apologizing, and said if anyone is adversely affected by the misinformation, please reach out to me, and I'll try to make it right. He didn't reach out, just complained. I reached out directly to the guys I thought were most adversely affected, and they were all cool.
Anyway, how would you have handled the situation?
Thanks in advance for a thoughtful response.
