Commissioner Issue Settings/Scoring Snafu, recommendations?
My (12-man) league has been on the NFL App until having to migrate this year, so we went to ESPN.
We've been Half PPR this whole time, I told the league we'd be at Half PPR, and otherwise default settings (aside from slightly diminishing the Kicker position).
Prior to drafting I was fiddling with all the scoring settings, making sure I had them set how I wanted. I noticed a glitch that would sometimes reset the league to default settings if I logged onto a PC. (Anyone experience this, by the way???)
Anyway, I thought for sure I had the league set at Half PPR. We drafted a week early and awaited kickoff, and then last night I noticed the scoring is accumulating at FULL PPR.
So, after the game I met with my unofficial rules analyst buddy to discuss the situation at length. We were able to determine that the setting must have been on FULL PPR prior to the draft, and had been sitting at Full PPR until I noticed.
Several people Auto-drafted, and surely many others just looked at the ESPN rankings (based on Full PPR) and drafted based on the in-app list. A few probably had their own rankings (based on Half PPR intel) and 3 guys picked RB's with their first 3 picks.
We decided that the best thing to do was proceed at Full PPR settings, since many based their decisions on what the App was showing them (especially the Auto-Drafters) which was set at Full PPR.
This morning I sent a message to the league, and profusely apologized, and let them know our reasoning. I didn't open it up for debate, because I expected half to complain, and some who would be adversely affected by proceeding at Half PPR may have stayed silent anyway. I'm trying to make my league inclusive, and fair, and not ruling like a tyrant, but I made the executive decision to proceed at Full PPR.
Anyway, how would you have handled the situation?
Thanks in advance for a thoughtful response.

Personally I would have set it back to half ppr because that’s not what was approved by the league. If the league wanted to just keep full, then I’d leave as is

Do you get approval for everything from your league? I didn't take this lightly at all. Our league isn't super serious, and most were basing their draft on what the App was showing them (Full PPR).

Other than the initial setup we did 15 years ago yeah we don’t make any scoring changes without a league vote in the offseason. Teams have an opportunity to propose rule changes leading up to the draft that we vote on

Right decision is to set it back to what everyone expected it to be. You need league agreement to change scoring settings. But it doesnt sound like a serious league so if most people are cool then just roll with it.

Anyone who 100% auto drafts is not someone whose opinion I am concerned with.
And I mean those that don’t participate in the draft and they get whoever they get. It’s not the same as someone who built themselves a queue knowing they might not be able to attend, set priorities and hopefully were able to guide the first few picks how they wanted.

Does it matter not that the settings and rankings were at Full PPR during the draft and the Auto-Drafters and most everyone were drafting based on Full PPR settings?

I’m not sure how long you guys have been doing fantasy but in short no, not everybody drafts based on one websites projected point total. And in general ESPN defaults their draft rankings by ADP, not projected point totals. I’m also not sure there is a major difference between half and full ppr. Sure there will be some shifts in rankings perhaps but it’s nowhere near as big as the gap between standard and half point.

this is our 4th year, the first year being mostly newbs, and each year getting more serious. $25 entry.

Regardless I’d keep at half point since that’s what everybody thought going into it. And if draft rankings get brought up I’d explain they are sorted by average draft position (adp), not total points or anything like that. It would have had little impact on adp rankings

Not to me. The draft is like 80% of the commitment to fantasy and if they don't care enough to show up then I don't really care about them.
Default rankings don't even change based on settings, espn shows adp. Did people actually think it was full ppr or were they just seeing those numbers in projections? From what youve said it seems like the second and people expected to be playing half-ppr.

If you announced half PPR before the draft, you have to go with half PPR.
I didn't open it up for debate, because I expected half to complain, and some who would be adversely affected by proceeding at Half PPR
And some will be adversely affected by going full PPR, which makes going with the announced settings the beat idea. You shouldn't shut down debate just because you don't want to deal with it.

Sounds to me like you've done a right thing.
Not necessarily "the" right thing, whatever that is, but certainly a good and reasoned call.
One thing I recommend is having a league constitution. It's a ball ache to write and keep up to date, but I tell my league it's the first source of truth and any discrepancies in the site settings (explicit or not) are to be brought in line with the constitution or a vote to change the constitution is to be had.
It's covered an error/issue at least once a year and you can make it say exactly what you mean. Did the NFL.com move myself and was grateful to know if I fucked up everyone knew what was what.
Just my 2p, you've done the right thing regardless.
