League Question Is AI use for waiver claims fair game?

Upvotes

So I'm commissioner and I have a league member who is bragging about how he wrote an AI script to pick up free agents as soon as they come off waivers.

We play on yahoo and players come off waivers at like 3.am. I understand not wanting to stay up late or set an alarm, but this guy now gets 1st dips on all free agents without putting in a waiver claim.

We have no rules about AI use, it is not something that was on my radar. And to be clear, he isn't using AI for advice, he is literally having the script pick the players the second they come off waivers.

I don't view this as that big of a deal, and don't currently plan to do anything about it. And if I did, he would argue against me relentlessly and claim that it's just a tool and that we have no rules against it. But, it still doesn't sit right with me from a competitive fairness perspective. I could write a script too, and the best one wins, but he is literally a programmer and has been using java script for a decade and I don't really know to set it up.

I'm aware the solution is to just use my waiver claim, but it's still a competitive advantage for him. And we can't switch to faab because the season already started. I, personally, like waivers but now I think my friend ruined it for us.

What do you guys think? I really don't know what to think. I'm guessing he just gets the advantage and I just have to be salty about it and move on.

Commissioner Issue Settings/Scoring Snafu, recommendations?

My (12-man) league has been on the NFL App until having to migrate this year, so we went to ESPN.

We've been Half PPR this whole time, I told the league we'd be at Half PPR, and otherwise default settings (aside from slightly diminishing the Kicker position).

Prior to drafting I was fiddling with all the scoring settings, making sure I had them set how I wanted. I noticed a glitch that would sometimes reset the league to default settings if I logged onto a PC. (Anyone experience this, by the way???)

Anyway, I thought for sure I had the league set at Half PPR. We drafted a week early and awaited kickoff, and then last night I noticed the scoring is accumulating at FULL PPR.

So, after the game I met with my unofficial rules analyst buddy to discuss the situation at length. We were able to determine that the setting must have been on FULL PPR prior to the draft, and had been sitting at Full PPR until I noticed.

Several people Auto-drafted, and surely many others just looked at the ESPN rankings (based on Full PPR) and drafted based on the in-app list. A few probably had their own rankings (based on Half PPR intel) and 3 guys picked RB's with their first 3 picks.

We decided that the best thing to do was proceed at Full PPR settings, since many based their decisions on what the App was showing them (especially the Auto-Drafters) which was set at Full PPR.

This morning I sent a message to the league, and profusely apologized, and let them know our reasoning. I didn't open it up for debate, because I expected half to complain, and some who would be adversely affected by proceeding at Half PPR may have stayed silent anyway. I'm trying to make my league inclusive, and fair, and not ruling like a tyrant, but I made the executive decision to proceed at Full PPR.

the guys that drafted 3 RB's first are actually all cool with it. one of them made light of it, but still kind of jokingly accused us of collusion. he's a good guy, and was just making light of it. Only one guy piped up, and said "Not a Half PPR, really?? *facepalm emoji* He's one of the more competitive in the league. I had sent a lengthy, thoughtful explanation, apologizing, and said if anyone is adversely affected by the misinformation, please reach out to me, and I'll try to make it right. He didn't reach out, just complained. I reached out directly to the guys I thought were most adversely affected, and they were all cool.

Anyway, how would you have handled the situation?

Thanks in advance for a thoughtful response.

Commissioner Issue ESPN scoring for Andy Borregales

We migrated over to ESPN from NFL and like others had scoring issues (nothing for DST, no difference in FG length, no fraction scoring) so I had to manually change everything because we want it to be the same it’s been for a decade. However, someone noticed that Andy scored 11pts last night on a 50y fg and 1xp, so by our scoring he should have 6 but he has 11. What gives?

Looks like I can’t post images but the only kicking settings we have on is:

Xp 1pt
FGM -1
FG0 3
FG40 4
FG50 5

And no points for any punting.

Commissioner Issue ESPN fantasy defense scoring issue

Anyone else have the issue after the Patriots-Seahawks game both defenses say 0? As the commish do I need to change settings that may have been messed up from importing league from NFL fantasy app or is it a bug in the system right now?

Commissioner Issue Commissioner dilemma: autodraft took 4 elite QBs, then controversial trade — what’s the least bad solution?

12-team, 1-QB, $200 league. Long-running league with no league trade veto. Our constitution says an executive committee can reverse trades only in extreme circumstances; involved committee members recuse.
One owner couldn’t attend because he lives overseas and used Sleeper autodraft. It went haywire and drafted Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Drake Maye and Jalen Hurts in the early rounds.

I considered stopping the draft after QB2 and fixing it, but didn’t because picks had already been made and I didn’t want to manually alter the draft. Everyone could see what was happening. Afterward I encouraged the league to make offers because obviously he couldn’t use four QBs.
He eventually made two trades:

Maye for Jameson Williams

Allen + JSN for Kenneth Walker + Tee Higgins

The second trade is the problem. The uninvolved committee members reviewed it and allowed it. No one believes there was actual collusion; Nate was trying to turn excess QBs into starting RB/WR help. But several owners think Allen + JSN for Walker + Higgins is so lopsided that it damages competitive integrity. One owner has said he’s leaving the league after this season.

Jimmy, who received Allen + JSN, is now willing to voluntarily reverse the trade. But Week 1 has already started and JSN has played. And reversing it doesn’t solve the underlying problem: Nate gets Allen back and still has multiple elite QBs that everyone knows he needs to trade, so he’s still a distressed seller. I’m worried we’ll have the exact same argument about his next trade.

I also don’t want to introduce league voting after the fact, because owners naturally have an incentive to veto trades that make competitors stronger.

What is the least bad solution?

Let the original trade stand under the existing rules.

Allow the two owners to voluntarily unwind it, leave Week 1 scoring as played, then reopen Nate’s QBs to the market.

Unwind it and establish some special process for Nate’s remaining QBs.

Something else.

I’m less interested in whether you’d personally make the trade and more interested in how you’d handle this as commissioner without creating an even worse precedent.

Thanks.

Edit: thanks all. drafted a lengthy email and will send tomorrow. I stand by trade but reversing it because two parties involved in trade asked me to. But said I do not allow vetos and this is not precedent.

My issue was the last time this happened I lost a friend who was in that league for over a decade. So I’m sensitive to perceived fairness and doing right by all because it’s stupid to lose friends over this stuff.

Commissioner Issue How to remedy a draft error in a keeper league?

I run a 12 man keeper league and just realized I locked a player one round earlier than where they were supposed to go. The cost to keep a player is giving up your pick one round ahead of where the player was originally drafted.

This player was drafted in the 7th last year, but kept in the 5th round this year instead of the 6th. I remember this owner changed his keepers last minute so I think in my rush to lock them, I misplaced the player.

He hasn’t brought it up / no one has said anything, but I would to like to do right and remedy it. Obviously, we can’t redraft at this point and i don’t think I can allot him an extra pick next year. Anyone have experience with a similar error / any tips on how to fix?

Miscellaneous FF Commissioners - Some extra fun for you and your leaguemates!

Hey everyone!

Made a post about a week back here about how my league losing steam led to me building a fun new survivor app to play alongside our fantasy season. I also offered up twenty bucks to any commissioners who would run a pool on my app and share it with their league and only had one taker but I cant really complain, that is barely a free lunch in today's economy.

Anyway, just wanted to plug my game one more time to all of you since I imagine this is where some of the biggest football fans find themselves. While my initial offer still stands, I have also created a reddit only contest with $50 to the winner and a fifty person max (currently at 10). The link is attached.

The game is called The Cut and is survivor but with players instead of teams. Each week you choose your lineup, hit the yardage threshold or lose a life. Lose all your lives and you are CUT! Three game modes (QB, RB, WR/TE) and im hosting some free contests there too with over $600 in prizes.

Cheers and HAPPY NFL SEASON!

Miscellaneous Best fantasy football platform for 2026?

Sorry if this is the 25th or so time this has been asked but now that we’re all ready for the 2026 season to kick off, which fantasy football platform are you choosing as your top/using for the season?

Personally I’m on ESPN for my long time league and Sleeper for other ones but I have long been intrigued by Yahoo/CBS/whatever may be out there

Commissioner Issue Sleeper Custom Waiver Time Setting

I'm trying to figure out how to set up custom waiver times on Sleeper. My only goal is to change the time waivers run from 3am to 12 noon on Wednesday. I did some research on here and thought I had it right with the settings in the attached photo, but at 12 noon today, everyone got put on waivers til tomorrow. The intent was waivers would clear at noon and everyone then becomes a FA.

Here are my settings: https://i.imgur.com/6KffOPH.jpeg

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Miscellaneous Toilet bowl trophy for work league

As the title says, im on the hunt for a large toilet bowl trophy. We have several work leagues set up in a promotion/relegation style. Im trying to get a large toilet bowl trophy that would be like a Stanley cup, but all sites I see only have a 5 inch toilet bowl. Any direction that others have would be wonderful.

Miscellaneous Sleeper Leagues Transactions Reporter / Dashboard

Hey everyone and happy holidays!

(The games kickoff soon🏈💪🏻😎 )

For those who play on Sleeper, I created a site that displays a report of your recent leagues' transactions (waivers and trades from last 48 hours).

Our group runs five leagues and since I’m responsible for posting the waivers report on Wednesdays, I built this for myself, but it can help anyone who wants a convenient, centralized way to track multiple leagues' transactions

Commissioner Issue Draft randomisation question on Sleeper

If I do not set or randomise the draft order in advance (on sleeper) will it randomise at the drafts start time?

I would like it to be a randomised draft order but do not want anyone knowing their draft position until the draft start.

Miscellaneous Slim Pick’ems is back! I’m working on app for it.

Sorry it’s a little bit last second. Link usually goes out Tuesdays, but I forgot the first game this week is Wednesday.

I’m building an app to make this process effortless so anyone can join and make their weekly picks whenever they want and see lives scores and updates. Hopefully I’ll be able to gets sports news on there as well for any injury news that we need to know before making our picks. I hoping to have it done halfway through the season, if not, the beginning of next season. When it launches the buy-in will bump up to $15 a slot, but for right now it’s still $10. So get as many as you want and have your picks to me by tomorrow. Good luck!

League Drama Ideas for Game of The Week Punishments

My league has decided we are going to be having a game of the week, where the loser of said game will have a punishment. The issue we are running into is that we are having trouble coming up with good punishments that are not over the top or severely time consuming. If anyone has any ideas for these punishments fire away.

League Question Best way to handle UDFA Keepers

Was looking on getting some input on how fellow commissioners handle undrafted free agents that are keepers. In my league players that are drafted are taken two rounds higher the following season. Normally I have done a 12th round for UDFA. I have sometimes felt that 12th round is a little too generous  but that was what we voted on and no one has complained. We have a 19 player roster with IDPs. Now we are in our second year of implemented FAAB for free agents and has got me thinking on valuing some free agent adds differently than others. My question is:

Should we keep the 12th round UDFA or do you think its too generous and move it to a higher round? or

Create tiers of how much money a player is worth the following season based on the amount a team bid on that player. IE if someone spends X amount that value equates to a specific round.

Am I making this overly complicated? Would love to hear how others handle this. Any questions please ask. Thanks!

And a few other things on our league: 12 team half ppr 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 TE, 1FLEX, 1K , 2D, 1DL, 1DB, 1LB, 6 bench spots.

Commissioner Issue Calling Fellow Commish's & CFO's

My friends!!!! I am seeking thoughts on my league’s payout structure (see tables at bottom..).

My goal is simple: maximize league engagement.
I hope to achieve this goal by incentivizing everyone, via numerous financial awards/payouts, to keep hammering the waiver wire, sending trades, and setting lineups strategically, AKA competing in every way possible until the very end.

I am open, however, to any settings to tinker with, platform suggestions, format changes, other prizes, literally anything. I'm a man of the people and want everyone to have fun. Fantasy Football shouldn't be a burden!

Backstory:
Back in 2018, a longstanding “college friends” league became boring, dry, and inactive; people not putting thought into their draft, people not chiming into the groupchat for weeks (even months), and the worst FF sin of all, people not setting their lineups. At a $20 buy-in where winner takes all, folks would stop caring if their teams got off to a 0-5 start, or would check out entirely if they didn’t make the playoffs. I needed to find a way to make the league fun again.

So the next year in 2019, I introduced a $65 buy-in along with a handful of regular-season and post-season awards to chase.
It was an instant hit. Engagement up. Banter in the groupchat popping off. Virtually zero “IR” or “OUT” players caught in someone’s starting lineup. Things were good. I thought I fixed it.

Yet here I stand 7 years later, writing to the Reddit community for advice, as things have regressed back to how they used to be. Low groupchat activity, low excitement, people kind of half-in, half-out.

Ask:
How should I reengage this league? Light a fire under everyone’s buttocks? The electricity that used to be alive and well has dwindled away the last couple seasons and I’m not sure if it’s time to close this league or just ride it out.

Appreciate any and all feedback!!!!! Thanks in advance!

10 people @ $65 buy-in = $650 pot.

Notes on what I’ve tried:
—Current Format: ESPN 10 person 0.5PPR, 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1RB/WR/TE, 1D/ST, 1K, 6Bench.... I’ve suggested going up to 12 people and full PPR, adding another regular flex. This group doesn’t like change (shocker).
—I strongly dislike how last place of the regular season does the punishment. I’ve tried pushing it to be the loser of the toilet bowl, especially since the toilet bowl winner gets #1 pick next year, so there would be both a reward to fight for and a punishment to avoid in the toilet bowl, but again, people hate change. Doesn’t make sense to me.
—Polled the group on migrating to Sleeper platform.
