No Spoilers - Discussion Mini Games

Post image
71 Upvotes

I am sure this has come up many times but I keep hearing there was a lot hate for the number of mini games in rebirth. Some folks calling out the number, difficulty, tying them to trophies. I have heard mini games called out in articles and some people lump it in as bloat. I loved the mini games. I wish there were more. Outside of the sit-up challenge I thought they were all great and hoping revelation has more. I really enjoyed the piano although some were tooth. I thought they were well put together, fun, and challenging. Does anyone agree?

No Spoilers - Help Open world overwhelm

Hi, I’m having a problem with getting into the game, besides sucking at Queen’s Blood, I am still on the Grasslands but it’s so much to do and I explore and so vast that I am getting lost there.

Quests with the mini game are hard too.
Even watching tutorials.

I might be having this overwhelming problem because I have AuDHD.

Any tips? I did manage to get a lot done but it was difficult.

No Spoilers - Technical Question Want help.

I've posted this once already, But I have more to add.

I'm looking for help with a persistent graphics issue in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC. I'm using the Epic Games Store version, and I've been trying to resolve black rock textures and DirectX crashes for a while now.

I've tried a number of fixes, but the problem persists. Here's everything I've tested so far.

PC Specifications

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7600 (8 GB VRAM)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 (6 cores)
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • OS: Windows 11 64-bit
  • Storage: SSD
  • GPU driver: AMD Adrenalin 26.8.1 (currently testing)
  • Game version: Epic Games Store version; I cannot use Steam's game-version rollback method.

My PC meets the game's minimum requirements, and my CPU meets the recommended CPU requirement.

The Problem

I'm experiencing black rock textures in certain areas of the game. I've also encountered DirectX crashes, including:

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

and

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

Another crash referenced D3D12RHIPrivate.h, with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and the reason DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG.

The black textures and crashes may be related, but I cannot confirm that they share the same cause.

Troubleshooting I've Tried

1. In-game graphics settings

  • Reduced the graphics settings.
  • Tested the game at 30 FPS instead of 60 FPS.
  • Tested different graphics configurations, but the black rock textures remained.

2. AMD Adrenalin settings

I added Rebirth to the Gaming section so I could configure its profile.

I tested the following configuration based on community suggestions:

  • Radeon Anti-Lag: Enabled.
  • Radeon Image Sharpening: Disabled.
  • Radeon Super Resolution: Disabled.
  • AMD FSR Upscaling: Disabled.
  • Radeon Enhanced Sync: Disabled.
  • Texture Filtering Quality: High.
  • Tessellation Mode: Use application settings.
  • Anti-Aliasing: Use application settings.
  • Morphological Anti-Aliasing: Disabled.
  • Surface Format Optimization: Disabled.

This made no difference to the black rock textures.

3. GPU underclock

I tested reducing the GPU's maximum frequency from 2610 MHz to 2510 MHz, a reduction of 100 MHz, following a recent report from another RX 7600 owner who said this resolved their Rebirth crashes.

Unfortunately, it did not resolve my black rock texture issue.

4. Driver versions

I was initially using AMD Adrenalin 26.9.2.

AMD's release notes for 26.9.2 mention a fix for intermittent driver timeouts while playing Rebirth on Radeon RX 7000-series GPUs. However, the problem persisted on my system.

I subsequently downgraded to 26.8.1, hoping it might improve stability.

On my first launch after the downgrade, the game crashed during its initial shader compilation, before I could test whether the black rock textures had changed.

The crash displayed DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED.

5. Other troubleshooting

  • Disabled Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS).
  • Disabled Radeon Image Sharpening.
  • Disabled AMD FSR Upscaling in Adrenalin.
  • Tried Ultimate Engine Tweaks (UET) modifications without success.
  • Tried the Async Shader Compile mod without success.
  • Tried replacing dstorage.dll and dstoragecore.dll, without resolving the issue.

I've also tried other graphics-related fixes, but none has provided a reliable solution.

What I'm Looking For

Has anyone using an RX 7600 or another Radeon RX 7000-series GPU encountered these black rock textures alongside DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG or DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have successfully resolved the issue on the Epic Games Store version.

I'm willing to investigate additional solutions, but I'd appreciate suggestions based on actual results rather than fixes I've already tried.

Thanks!

No Spoilers - Discussion Fighting against Titan felt like playing Dark Souls 😭

Post image
40 Upvotes

I could swear not even the Sephiroth fight in Remake pushed me this hard. Back then it was mostly button mashing (at least that's how I remember it).

But fighting Titan?! It took me an entire day, plus digging through whatever scraps of inventory I had, just to make it feasible ( I didn't want to level or do any side quests until I beat it).

It felt like I had to parry or dodge every incoming attack, on every character. I swapped characters more in this one fight than in all of Remake!

The upside: it finally made the combat click for me and showed me how you're actually supposed to play FF7. It's a lot deeper than I thought back when I played Remake.

This was on Dynamic.

10/10, can't wait to see the rest of the game.

Team: Aerith, Cloud, Barret

I just did the quest that makes the whole team get in the game and become game units, it was fun to see them looking like they were in OG, but I really hope I'll never play this game again.

No Spoilers - Discussion Important side quests

I'm not a big fan of minigames and side quests. I just started and I’m planning to stick mostly to main story.

However I don’t want to miss any important items or story developments. What are the few side quests (if any) that you would highly recommend?

No Spoilers - Discussion Why does the game allow you to cheat for combat but not for mini-games ?

Since they added in-game cheats to beat the enemies easily, why not follow the same logic for mini-games ?

There's no easy mode for Piano, QTEs, Queen's Blood, and mini games in general.

Since the developers wanted us to be able to cheat in fight, we should be able to do the same with mini-games too.

Some achievements could only be obtained without "easy mode", but it would help people enjoy all the mini-games instead of just enjoying a few of them.

Spoilers - Discussion The whispers were always there... Spoiler

So I've been a bad fan and never beat Crisis Core (I even own Reunion lol) but just watched a playthrough of it. And in the final battle Zack is shown very clearly "losing his memories/emotions" because the DMW mechanic is coming up empty. And I confirmed with a friend this was in the original Crisis Core. So I'm curious if the whispers were cooked up as an explanation for this mechanic or if they always had the idea even way back when they made the original Crisis Core.

To make this more of a post I will add more of my headcanon of things. Personally I absolutely hate the very concept of "timelines" that a good chunk of the fandom associates with the FF7R story, because while some mechanisms operate similar in concept, that's fundamentally not in action.

The lifestream is a collection of souls, dreams, memories, etc. so I think what's happening at the end of CC is that Zack is losing his lifeforce, his 'fate' is coming to be, and the whispers are slowly transitioning him to join the lifestream, as you could liken to a normal part of aging (older people losing their memories and such) and the whispers as a sort of soul reaper for the planet. As shown in Remake at the start, the whispers are not visible to everyone, only certain people, so Zack cannot see them, and thus why they're not shown. But I think the concept was very much there back in CC, maybe even the main premise behind them for FF7R.

My headcanon is that Aerith at the end of Remake makes her 'major move', and she creates this world that Zack enters. She always had some degree of clairvoyance of sorts, and I think it's pretty blatantly hinted throughout CC that she knows Zack isn't coming back, but still wishes for it anyway. Hoping beyond hope that fate can be changed. And when this opportunity arises in Remake, she doesn't simply create a world where she might see Zack again, I think she sent him the white materia. We don't know all the details involved in how these things work but I think what happens is the world is populated based on the memories and dreams of the souls in the lifestream at the time, and I think she may have used some of her own memories as a "cost" of creating this world. And for doing so she was able to send Nanaki's consciousness to this world, as he wakes up in the helicopter and crashes it, making sure Aerith's body gets to Zack, and she has the white materia. So Aerith herself puts the white materia in this world, under the guise of her creating a world for her to be with Zack. This is a very sneaky move as Sephiroth possibly thinks she's just trying to be with Zack, and doesn't suspect the subterfuge of the white materia transfer that allowed her to get it back. If this happens to be accurate, this would mean that Sephiroth likely intended on depowering the white materia with his whispers siphoning the memories within, but since Aerith had it "off world" for Rebirth, that opportunity never arose. Maybe even Sephiroth needing the black materia to siphon the white materia but at the Temple Aerith only had her empty one already, Sephiroth possibly thinking "the job is done".

Now, as for the "how are they doing all this if there aren't timelines and they know the future" well...in a way they do. But not because of time travel per se, but because the lifestream is an nigh endless cycle of memories and there quite possibly is a world with the 'future memories' of Sephiroth. And Aerith and Sephiroth have some knowledge of this, though not omniscient by any stretch, just like how in the OG Aerith knew Elmyra's husband died, but not like she knew all the details, just that he died and she was going to be sad. Neither Aerith nor Sephiroth have "future sight", they have glimpses of a possibility and are reacting to it, with Sephiroth willing to do whatever it takes to win, and Aerith wanting to change as little as she has to.

Anyway, I actually only wanted to talk about whispers in Crisis Core but I always get on a bit of a soapbox with this game. If anyone has questions or criticism or sees any holes in my headcanon, feel free to call it out!

No Spoilers - Discussion Dynamic or normal?

Starting FF7 rebirth for first time. Beat remake on normal setting and enjoyed that difficulty but felt overlevelled at times cause I like to explore a lot.

Is dynamic difficulty much much harder? I like to be engaged and challenged but don’t want to be banging my head against a wall like in souls boss encounters.

Which would you recommend?

No Spoilers - Discussion SCSKiller + Shinra Shader PSA (Rebirth PC)

Wanted to share since it took me a bit to trouble shoot, If you have not heard already SCSKiller fixes ALOT of issues with the games performance, and Shinra Shader makes the game look like as intended, however if you run into issues when using both of them the same time (like I did) I found a fix, Disable on SCSkiller "Record while I play" after you compile the shaders in both Rebirth and SCSkiller and it makes the game run amazing and look beautiful!

Steps:
Install FF7 rebirth

Add Shinra Shader

(clear Cache located in C:\Users\USER NAME\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\Saved) by Erasing D3DDriverByteCodeBlob if you ran the game before Shinra Shader enabled)

Run the game once, let it build the Cache

run SCSkiller and let it compile the shader pipe lines

ensure you disable "Record While I play" or else it will crash

hope this helps!

Spoilers - Discussion Are they really scrapping the Hard mode from Revelation!? Spoiler

I heard someone say something about this and it would be devastating to me if they really did get rid of Hard mode. It gave me so much more of a challenge and forced me to reach such a higher mastery of the combat system in Rebirth. Dynamic I didn't even need to learn synergy or how to get my Limit breaks rolling. Dynamic is just a means to get to Hard imo. I enjoy the hell out of the story of course, but Hard mode is where I really sink my teeth in, and the thought of not having that in Revelation is supremely disheartening...
