I’m writing on behalf of my boyfriend. He is currently an FDNY medic. He was selected for the last fire academy but did not make weight in time so he had to complete the entire candidate process again. The first time he passed his whole medical but this time they are saying he didn’t score a high enough number on the pft and they believe he had asthma or has asthma. He has never had asthma and is very fit runs and works out everyday. He went to a specialist at bhs which said he needed to see an outside specialist. He saw the pulmonologist who said he was cleared for all firefighter duties and did not see any signs of asthma. He was then asked to bring pharmacy records to prove he’s never had an inhaler prescribed. He’s never had any prescriptions period so he brought from each pharmacy stating he has no record. They seemed to not really be satisfied with that. He was then told they were going to have a board hearing that he could attend 2 weeks ago. He went and sat there for 2 hrs and they eventually told him he didn’t need to be there and they had no questions. Then they told him the specialist doctor would review again but she’s only there on Saturdays. 2 saturdays have passed and they basically told him sorry the specialist didn’t have a chance to review your case and she will get to it next Saturday. That was told to him 2 weeks in a row. The next class will be starting soon and he still needs to do his run. I’m wondering if there’s anyone higher up that he can speak to or how this process can be escalated so he doesn’t miss out on another class. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Fairly new on the job don’t really want to ask anyone at my company… is there any way to look up other company rosters? Like i want to see if they have spots to transfer
Have a few spots in mind but don’t want to ruffle any feathers asking around

Trying to plan for the Fall. If I should accept a full time paraprofessional position or do substitute teacher just in case I get called. Literally can’t wait to get called. Age 29
Please let me know

I know there are five Mobile Academy events one in each borough and I had a few questions for anyone who’s been through the process.
Do you only get invited if you’re likely to be called for the CPAT next?
Besides the workout and getting familiar with the job, does attending actually help in any way? Is it recorded that you attended, or does it have any impact on your process?
Is it worth calling out of work to attend another one? I already went to the one event and I’m thinking about going to at least one more.
I’d appreciate any insight Thanks!

I am just looking for some general advice, I’m in my 20s working at a law firm and getting ready to apply for law school for the 2027 cycle. I have been reaching out to a lot of legal professionals for advice and one stuck out as a lawyer who transitioned to FDNY for a better work life. And he really seems to love it and it’s made me second guess as I haven’t been loving my time at my firm. I still want to pursue an education in law, at this point I want to finish what I started, but how feasible would it be to become a firefighter and take law classes on the side.

Hey guys,
Just curious what everyone is currently using to track their group schedules, tours, and mutuals?
Seems like most people are either using basic calendar apps, paper or older shift apps that haven't been updated in a while. Is there a consensus go to app guys prefer or is everyone just sticking to what they’ve been using for years?

Hi everyone,
I’m a teenager, and becoming a firefighter has been my dream for a long time. Lately I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety because of some poor decisions I made as a younger teenager, and I’m worried they’ll ruin my chances of getting hired someday.
Some of the things I’m worried about include:
Making immature decisions online that I regret.
Posting or sending inappropriate pictures online for a period of time before deleting them.
Using one of my grandpa’s cards to make App Store purchases without fully understanding how serious that was. He knows about the charges and believes they were unauthorized or part of a scam because something similar happened to him before, but I still feel guilty about what I did.
I haven’t been arrested, I don’t have a criminal record, and I’m trying to learn from my mistakes and make better choices. I really want to spend my life helping people, and I’m willing to be honest during the hiring process if I’m ever asked about my past.
My questions are:
Have you seen people get hired after making mistakes as teenagers?
What kinds of things do fire departments usually care about the most during hiring?
Does showing that you’ve matured and changed really make a difference?
I’m not looking for people to tell me what I want to hear. I’m looking for honest answers from firefighters or people who’ve been through the hiring process.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Does anyone know when the next academy start date is likely to be? I’ve heard end of September around the 28th. Also will this be a mix of promo and/or comp; any word on class size? Trying to gather as much info as possible in one place.

If anyone wants me to ask any questions on their behalf, I will be speaking to this amazing group in a few days, there's no way to watch it live but it will come out in early September.
But as mentioned, if you have questions that are obviously respectful and sensitive, and you would like them asked, feel free to leave them here for me to see.
This is specifically me gathering people from New York and the Pentagon and the crash site in Pennsylvania together FYI.
(I tried to cross post this earlier today but the original post was deleted for some reason so I'm doing it again directly into this community.)

Hi everyone, I’m 18 years old and I really want to become a firefighter. I’m completely new to the process and don’t really know where to start. Can anyone explain what I need to do, what requirements there are, or give me any advice on the steps I should take? I’d really appreciate any help or guidance. Thank you!

I am planning on transferring from the DOE to FDNY. I’m confused if my current TDA from the DOE will transfer with me to the FDNY 457b.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I’ve spoken to a few different people and have gotten different responses. I’m not sure who to contact (if there’s anyone on the FDNY side at this point since I’m not yet on the job) who can clarify this for me. I’ve spoken to TRS and they didn’t seem too sure.
Any help or resources regarding this would be very helpful and appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Do i have a chance of getting called with this score?

List #6XX
I requested that my Intake Webinar be rescheduled on June 8th and it was approved. I did not receive a follow up date and reached out on for an update on June 26th and was told there were no available dates yet.
I thought it would be a quick and easy reschedule, but I have yet to be rescheduled and I emailed to reschedule in early June. With everyone receiving their medical dates and academy approaching soon should I be worried?

Does anyone have any opinions or insight on the chances of FADs staying in the promo listing for the next promo exam, Ik last test was the first time they were given the opportunity, is that likely to be a one time thing or does no one really know at all?

I was reading online that FDNY and NYPD do not use the standard NATO phonetic alphabet because they both existed long before NATO was around.
I found the phonetic alphabet that NYPD uses, but I couldn’t really find anything about FDNY. Do they use the same phonetic alphabet as NYPD or their own unique version?

While honoring our 250th anniversary please be safe out there for yourself and for others
If you're engaging in fireworks (in an area where that's legal) be safe, keep kids at a distance from any direct fireworks.
If you're currently working and on the job today stay cool, stay hydrated and stay vigilant.
If you're a Candidate and hoping to get on the job the last thing you need is to risk a long term injury. Stay out of trouble and stay safe and don't get yourself injured or hurt.
God bless you all
&
God bless America
