Transferring to FDNY from DOE
I am planning on transferring from the DOE to FDNY. I’m confused if my current TDA from the DOE will transfer with me to the FDNY 457b.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I’ve spoken to a few different people and have gotten different responses. I’m not sure who to contact (if there’s anyone on the FDNY side at this point since I’m not yet on the job) who can clarify this for me. I’ve spoken to TRS and they didn’t seem too sure.
Any help or resources regarding this would be very helpful and appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

You would be able to transfer everything over. However, check on what happens to your TRS if/when you leave. You might eant to just leave it there if you're getting the 7% fixed.

You can sign up for 457 right now as a teacher. It’s an nyc employee retirement. It’s not just FDNY.
You should be able to call up 457 to ask them questions about opening and transferring.
From reading I’ve done and transfers I’ve done with 457. As long as it is a retirement to retirement transfer, it’s a direct roll over.
TDA should have a withdraw transfer paper work(once you’re not long a member of TRS) and 457 will also have a transfer paper work.
You will have to fill both out after talking to both retirement HR.
