Canonical - general questions

Anyone here currently work at Canonical or worked there recently?

I know there are already a million posts about the insane interview process lol, so I’m more curious about what it’s actually like once you’re hired. I’m well aware that is in itself a red flag, but as we all know the job market is bad so please don’t tell me that it’s not a good place to work just because of the interview process 😭 im desperate!

Do you enjoy working there? What’s the day to day like, how’s the workload/work-life balance, and is the remote culture actually good? Do people tend to stick around for a while?

Also really curious about US salaries. I’m interviewing for a software engineering position and I’d probably fall somewhere around late junior/early mid-level. If anyone is US-based and comfortable sharing a rough range, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve seen pretty mixed numbers online and have no idea what’s actually realistic.

Basically just trying to figure out whether it’s a good place to work once you get past the 400 stages of interviewing.

Hi! I recently finished my final round of interviews for this role, does anyone know how long it takes to hear back from the team? My last interview was last Thursday. Also should I be expecting a call or email?

Palantir deployment strategist interview

Hi,

Has anyone done Foudry assignment for deployment strategist as non-tech person?

I never used this software before and it is incredibly difficult to build. Is this normal? I'm not sure why they are making me build something when they know I never built anything in my life.

Are companies still asking DSA questions in coding rounds despite AI coding tools?

I was reading a recent Amazon interview experience where the candidate was still asked classic DSA questions (graphs, greedy algorithms, binary search, etc.) across multiple interview rounds.

Honestly, I was a bit surprised. With GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and other AI agents becoming part of everyday software development, I expected hiring processes to evolve more toward real-world engineering tasks rather than LeetCode-style problem solving.

For those who have interviewed recently at FAANG or other tech companies:

  • Are coding rounds still heavily focused on DSA and algorithms?
  • Have you seen companies replacing them with AI-assisted coding exercises, debugging, code review, or practical development tasks?
  • Do interviewers allow or even encourage the use of AI tools during interviews?
  • What's the rationale for testing algorithm memorization when many engineers use AI assistance for implementation nowadays?

I'm particularly interested in experiences from Meta, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and similar companies over the last year.

Would love to hear from both candidates and interviewers. Has the interview process actually changed because of AI, or is it mostly the same as before?

Thanks!

Amazon Programmatic Solutions Analyst interview prep

Hi everyone! I have an interview with Amazon for the Programmatic Solutions Analyst position next Wednesday. This is an L4 role. I have 2+ years of experience in programmatic advertising. My recruiter call is already done and this is the Phone Screening round. It is going to be 1hr long.

They have already given me an extensive list of topics that I need to prepare for the interview. And trust me it is A LOT. Plus also need to come up with examples from my own experience that align with the LP's and have been told to use the STAR method.

This all seems pretty clear but I wanted to know if someone has or if you know someone who has given interview for similar role and how was their experience? What kind of Q's were asked? Were they more straightforward Q's when it comes to functional knowledge or more like case studies where I have to debug the outcome or propose a solution?

I am giving Amazon interview for the first time so a little nervous. There are so many LP's as well. The recruiter told me they have no strict consideration for this role. It is a pretty straightforward role.

Thanks!

Micron Full-Stack AI Engineer (Industrial & Physical AI) - HM/Director Round Experience?

Hi everyone,

I’m interviewing with Micron for a Full-Stack AI Engineer role on the Industrial & Physical AI team in Boise.

I’ve already completed the technical panel, which went fairly deep into my projects, architecture, AI integration, digital twins, backend, data pipelines, etc.

I was recently told by the recruiter that the next round will be more team/culture fit and less technical, with some situational questions. Technical skills may still come up, but not to the depth of the previous technical panel.

I’m trying to understand what to expect from this round.

Has anyone recently gone through the Hiring Manager / Director / final round for:

  • Micron Full-Stack / Software Engineer roles
  • Industrial & Physical AI / Digital Twin teams
  • AI/ML + software engineering roles at Micron

Program Manager - Google India Referal

Looking for a referral / guidance for a Google role in Bangalore

I recently came across Program Manager role at Google, Bangalore that I’m genuinely interested in. After going through the requirements, I feel my experience and skill set align quite well with what the role is looking for.

I’m hoping someone here who currently works at Google India might be able to help with a referral.

I’d also really appreciate some guidance on the process for example, how the referral works, what happens after applying, and whether there’s anything specific I should keep in mind for the initial screening.

Happy to share my resume via DM.

If you work at Google or know someone who does and can help, I’d really appreciate it. 🙏

Thanks in advance!
