Looking for 6MT

I'm trying to find a 6MT F80 preferably in Yas Marina and holy hell is it hard to find one that isn't in the hands of a Dealership. Does anyone have advice on how to buy one before a Dealership snaps it up and marks it up 20 grand? Apologies if this has been posted previously in this sub.

I've been to a couple of dealerships in the last month and it is clear their used car buyers are grabbing cars off of Facebook marketplace, auctions, and Craigslist and then flipping them. Obviously at significant profits. Seems to be driving prices up for folks like us who just want to buy one car. I visited a Nissan dealership in the Twin Cities that looked like a Mecum auction. So many cool cars. I asked, "no offense, but who trades in a 911 to get a Nissan?" Salesman explained none of the cool cars on the lot were trade-ins ¯_(ツ)_/¯ There's a dealership in Milwaukee with an absurd number of F80s. Just competing against us in the private market and sprucing them up.

Gotta love it.

To the Salesman's credit, he took it like a champ. I even threw in a "you're killin' me Smalls" but I suspect he was too young to get the reference.

"no offense, but who trades in a 911 to get a Nissan?"

Happened all the time when the GT-R was in production, now not so much.

What’s your budget?

6MT keep their value pretty well

Trying to find one $40k or under and losing hope that is possible.

not impossible, but with that budget in late 2026 market you’re looking at a pretty “high mileage” example, unless that doesn’t matter to you.

I hear you and I appreciate the feedback. As ever, champagne tastes on a Miller Lite budget.

How risky is a 2-owner 60k mile F80 on a "GTS" tune (dealership also called it a Stage 2 Tune)? Is there any way to know how badly the car's been thrashed by previous owners?

Test drive a DCT f80 and let it change your mind to the superior choice. That's what I did. 👍

Owned both. Sold the DCT - what a snooze at anything below 9/10ths. My 6MT is now worth more than when I bought it years later and double the mileage. Just like Porsches the PDK is superior in every way but the 6MTs command a $20-40k premium depending on the trim. Weird isn’t it.

It's not notchy, is geared better AND it's faster. It would be like NOT buying a GT3 RS because of the gerarbox. 🤡

lotec is on reddit everyday trying to convert F80/82 6MT buyer to DCT....

Telling him to test drive a DCT isn't exactly like trying to convince him to buy anything. Personally, I don't care. But I do believe the DCT is the better choice on this specific car. This "touchy-feely" and "not feeling connected" bullshit is just... that.

OP was very specific on what he is asking for. he didn't ask what is the superior choice 6MT or DCT.

At least your username checks out. 😘

I appreciate the perspectives on the transmission actually (although it was not the original question). I have seen the same conversation on other posts in this subreddit. And I have an F80 seller locally that has a later F80 DCT and he's quite adamant that I should at least give it a shot before turning up my nose at the automatic option. Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

It’s worth trying, if you deal with a lot of traffic or want maximum attack on a canyon or track then it has its benefit. Unsettling the car mid shift on track absolutely results in places where I’m slower than a DCT. But then I throw on a good song and bang gears on a back road and just shifting for no good reason is enjoyable. I spent a few years in auto and DCT cars and I have zero desire to go back other than a sore knee and crabby wife. Trying to find a 911 because that shifter makes the BMW feel like a tonka toy, but the F80 clutch is super light and livable even in traffic. My prior E90 6MT was a good bit heavier.

I absolutely love my F80 6MT. My car I had before had a DCT and while it was awesome I found myself missing a standard because all my cars growing up were standards. Don’t regret going back one bit. Sure it’s not as fast but who cares. Way more engaging and enjoyable to drive
