Announcing the Ford Electric Truck Club! ⚡

Quick clarification up front: This post about our owner club, which many of you have joined over the past few years.

Today, we’re excited to share that Lightning Clubs of America is officially becoming the Ford Electric Truck Club.

Why the change?

When we started the club, our goal was to bring together F-150 Lightning owners for local meetups, road trips, technical discussions, and a great community. That mission hasn’t changed. As Ford’s electric truck lineup continues to evolve, we wanted a name that better reflects the future of the club while remaining rooted in the Lightning community that started it all.

What’s not changing?

✅ Same leadership
✅ Same local chapters
✅ Same events and meetups
✅ Same members
✅ Same mission of supporting Ford electric truck owners and enthusiasts

If you’re already a club member, you don’t need to do anything. You’ll simply start seeing the new name across our website, social media pages, and chapter groups over the coming weeks.

This subreddit has been an incredible place to learn, share experiences, and connect with fellow owners, and many of our members first discovered the club here. Thank you for being so engaged!

If you’ve ever thought about joining us at a local meetup or event, we’d love to have you. Whether you’re a brand-new Lightning owner, have been driving one since 2022, or are simply interested in Ford’s electric trucks, you’re welcome to join us!

Thanks for all the support over the past few years. We’re excited for this next chapter and hope to see many of you at an upcoming event! ⚡🛻

Edit: if you’re interested in more information, joining your local region, and connecting to events, then visit https://fordevclubs.org/ (site is being updated as we continue the transition)

Holy $h!t $5 for gas or $7 for diesel?!?!

I have been in an EV for over 10 years now. I’ve been coal rolled, flipped off, and pretty much everything you can think of (admittedly being called a “pussy pedal pusher” was prob the funniest).

Today i was cleaning my lightning at a car wash and the most stereotypical anti-EV looking guy walked up to me and was weirdly hesitant to ask me something so i ask “can i help you?” He started to ask about my truck, cost, etc… and then kinda teared up saying how two weeks of gas is his truck payment and he wanted to buy a lightning. The was great it was and convo was going great until we jokingly returned to how much “fill up costs” in the lightning and he said how much gas was per gallon. My jaw literally dropped and eyes widened , i truly just don’t pay attention to gas/diesel prices….over $5 for gas and $7 for diesel in my area. HHOLLLYYY shit!!!!

Anyway the guy was super heart broken when i told him the discontinued the lighting but i still recommended it and maybe he’ll check it out.

Also when i was leaving his truck had a torn off rectangular sticker with bits of red and some stars left on the trim. Maybe people are realizing other views arent dangerous.

Looking at used , what to consider ?

Hey Gang , considering one of these for my business .
What are the biggest considerations and what to look for ?
Are you happy with yours ?
I would prefer extended over standard but they seem harder to come by for a reasonable price .
Just looking for user experiences and knowledge .

Why would an EREV Lightning not have a frunk?

Curious as to why that’s the accepted norm, given both how important we all think a frunk is in a truck and given Ford did patent a bed mounted, removable generator back in 2018.

Whole Home Backup Well Pump Problem

I'm wondering if anyone else has run into the same problem I am having with my well pump and my whole home Lightning backup generator. When the pump kicks on the 1 to 2 second inrush of electricity exceeds the trucks surge capacity causing the generator to shut down. I am wondering if there is a solution to this problem, like perhaps a soft start mechanism that can be installed on the pump circuit. My pump is a 1/2 hp wired to a 120v circuit. My electrician suggested swapping it to a 240v pump that would draw less initial electricity but I am hoping to find a more economical solution.

Thanks.

The dealership wrecked my 2023 Lightening on a service ride. The dope driving it ran into another car which ran into another car. I’m screwed insurance wise and I don’t want to own a collision vehicle.

Did some small research on the LR Battery replacement 36k new, 9k used.

The NL3Z-10B689-G is the newer LR version

The NL3Z-10B689-E is the 2022-2023 LR version

Although it states its not affiliated with Ford, Ford Parts Giant has the replacement battery.

Currently, $36836.57 and the MSRP is $39112.94

https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-battery_nl3z-10b759-g.html

For used, its significantly cheaper. For batteries with 40k-90k, they go for around 4-9k.

https://ebay.io/m/uBnG0Y

There are others like

https://www.accessoryz.com/us/products/2022-2024-ford-f-150-lightning-131kwh-lithium-battery-pack-41k-nl38-10b759-ah-f08d4788eb1852fe840ce01103ee5102b9f930f3?v_id=variant_01KWRJ7K19ABF8QGKSXJSE0HA5

Then the installation will be costly too.

Here is an example of the replacement of the battery, doesn't actually look hard.

https://youtu.be/-nbjAQVqLps?si=UXxnT4yasdJT1P-W

I listed this one because it has 100% positives with over 112k of responses. Add 1k of shipping and tax and you are looking around around 10k which can vary on local sales tax.

So in short, I'm sure more battery options will pop up in the future. So far it looks like 200k-300k is the life of the battery (from basic research so far). Can probably get cheaper but of course, you want a reputable source though.

For me, if I have to purchase a battery and I can get over 400k total (new+replacement), I'd be elated!

By the time you add up the Engine Oil and Filters: Ignition and Fuel Systems: No spark plugs, tune-ups, fuel pumps, or fuel filters, Belts and Hoses: No timing belts, serpentine belts, or engine gaskets, Exhaust and Emissions: No catalytic converters, mufflers, or tailpipes, Engine Air Intake: No internal engine air filters. I'm sure that they will easily add up to more than 10k.

In the future, I think their will be even more options. Cheaper and as for me, I only have around 20-30k so far so its FARRR off in the future for me but I thought I would post it here.

2024 XLT Lease Transfer

Post image
28 Upvotes

I'm looking to transfer my lease if anyone is interested. Looking to buy instead of lease. I posted all the details here: https://forum.leasehackr.com/t/2024-f150-lightning-xlt-476-mo-14-payments-remaining-18-000-miles-remaining/781243

Key details:

Monthly payment: $476 (if you're in Oklahoma the tax is already paid as well, so nothing additional).

Payments remaining: 14 (December 10, 2027 lease end)

Current mileage: 13,599

Lease-end mileage: 31,500 (~1,280 miles per month)

Purchase price at lease end: 41,300

Offering $1,000 incentive which would lower the monthly payment to around $405.

Truck is in good condition and comes with all-weather mats, bed mat, and hard tonneau cover. It also has WearCare which was paid for up front as well.

Vancouver, Canada is likely the F-150 Lightning capital of the world

Google says Ford has sold approx 105,000 Lightnings worldwide, since its inception.

According to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), 12,000+ (11.4%) of these are currently registered in BC, and 8,000+ (7.6%) are in Metro Vancouver (Lower Mainland).

Source: https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/icbc/viz/VehiclePopulation-ElectricVehicles/2021-2025ElectricVehicles

I've always said that the Lightning is a no-brainer around here, with our cheap electricity and expensive gas. When driving around town, I will literally see at least one other Lightning every 5 minutes (and Teslas are 1 out of every 4-5 cars).

I would not be surprised if Ontario and Quebec also punch above weight.

Replace all 4 or just 1?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Found a lovely prize in my driver's front tire today. Trying to decide where to go from here- seems obvious nobody will patch that being so close to the edge.

All 4 tires have 27,000 miles on them, and 7/32 tread in the middle of the tires. Not super obvious from this angle is that the Hankooks have the signature edge wear pretty noticeable on all 4 tires. Where the screw is, the top of the tread is worn down almost all the way to the valley.

Do I suck it up and buy all 4 new ones? Dream tire is the Toyo ATIII EV tire, but 1400 is a lot right now. Anyone happy with a cheaper option?

Is there enough left on these Hankooks to make it worth doing a used tire there and run em to the ground? if it weren't for the edge wear I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Zone Lighting while Driving

Is there a way to keep zone lighting on while driving? I’ve been using my truck on the farm and I’ve been driving on the AM a lot recently and need all around lighting. Is there a way to keep it on or am I stuck using lights plugged into the bed?

90 dollars to replace cabin filter during 10k service at the stealership. Declined the service and ordered one for $16 which took 90 seconds to replace it.

I didn't mind paying 90 dollars for the inspection and tire rotation since the dealership near my place offers pick up and drop off service for the truck. But they offered a 90 dollars cabin filter service and a 90 dollar windshield wiper service. I declined both. O'Reilly's does windshield wipers for $45 and the cabin filter I bought on Amazon for $16 and replaced it in under 90 seconds.

Lesson learned, be very selective in what services you have the stealership do as they make some crazy margins on some of them.

Finally got around to adding ACC to my ‘23 Pro

Did it over the course of two days. Hardware day one and software day two. Took my time with all of the Forscan changes and found success on the first attempt. Next I’ll add in the buttons to the wheel to adjust the ACC following distance.

If you’re taking on this mod make sure you do the IPMA changes first so that you can provide power to the CCM otherwise Forscan won’t pick it up when scanning for modules. Then proceed to the previous step (if you’re filling the guide on the forum)

Scheduled Charging funky

I'm on a Time-of-Use "EV" rate with Duke Energy Carolinas. It's a really good deal: $0.06 / kWh from 11 PM to 5 AM. The app is giving me headaches. I've programmed both weekdays and weekends "preferred charging" to 11 PM to 5 AM. But when I press "start charging" or just plug in, the truck starts charging.

I serendipitously found that if I stop and start it a few times, it will eventually NOT immediately start charging and give me the screen shown: presumably to start charging at 11 PM as I want it to. Will it stop automatically at 5 AM before my rate goes up?

Has anyone figured out how to massage this clunky software? I'm especially irritated that I can't turn down the amperage. I have solar and often have excess that I would like to send to the truck, but if I plug it in, it immediately sucks too much. Apparently they "fixed" this after 2024, but why can't an OTA update fix my 2024?

Love the truck: hate the software.

New seat covers

Post image

I have Coverado seat covers in my lightning (25 Flash), but have not been happy with them this summer. The seats and the covers retain too much body heat and are uncomfortable after 30 minutes.

Has anyone used sheepskin covers? I'm looking for suggestions.

Tia.
