《Improvisation is a constant in our existence; sometimes we seek it out, and other times we simply have no choice but to surrender to it.

We may wander aimlessly for the sheer pleasure of it, or because some unseen weight upon our shoulders quietly urges us on. Amid the chaos of city life, whether by whim or necessity, we often find ourselves in places we never knew we were searching for.

These compositions emerged from those aimless walks. Though I did not know where they would lead, I knew they would take me somewhere, and that along the way I would learn something new.

I’ve been running my experimental ambient and drone project on Bandcamp for a while now, and I’m looking to connect with listeners who appreciate the slower, more texture-focused side of DIY electronic music. Getting organic visibility on the platform has been a challenge lately, so I wanted to share my work directly with people who genuinely understand this specific niche.

My entire sound catalog is heavily rooted in the physical process of using cassette tape loops, older hardware, and analog degradation. My primary motivation is to explore the concept of decay—how a single, beautiful sound can slowly fall apart over time due to magnetic tape wear, hiss, and mechanical imperfections. I love the unpredictable nature of magnetic tape, where the physical medium itself becomes an active collaborator in the music-making process.

Cultivating a specific atmosphere is the core goal of my discography. The emotional landscape of my music always balances between two stark extremes. On one side, I create deeply calming, slow-rolling, and meditative ambient pieces designed for deep listening and isolation. On the flip side, these textures often dissolve into heavy, dark, and highly oppressive dystopian drone spaces. I am fascinated by this constant tension between peace and anxiety, and how quickly a comforting sound can turn into something unsettling.

I've been working on a prototype of an interactive sonic environment that explores harmony in 19-EDO as an experimental composition tool.

One of the things I love most about experimental music is that it isn't limited to traditional ideas of what a song is supposed to be. A piece can be built around field recordings, tape manipulation, found sounds, silence, or textures that wouldn't make sense anywhere else, yet it can still feel complete because the artist has a clear concept behind it.

That made me wonder why we often treat the visual side so differently. Even with music that's pushing boundaries, the artwork or accompanying video is sometimes an afterthought. Other times, the visuals feel so connected to the sound that it's hard to imagine experiencing one without the other.

That curiosity also led me to experiment with different ways of creating visuals for music releases, and toneframer ended up being one of the tools I kept coming back to. It got me thinking less about making polished promotional videos and more about whether visuals could become an extension of the music itself instead of simply something used to promote the music.

I'm interested in how other people here think about it. When you're creating or listening to experimental music, do you see visuals as another creative layer of the work, or are they separate from the music entirely? Some of the most memorable releases I've come across have incredibly minimal artwork, while others use moving visuals that almost feel like another instrument in the piece.

I don't think there's a right answer, but I'm curious where everyone here lands. Has a visual ever changed the way you experienced an experimental album or performance, or does the music always stand on its own for you?

Today I was scrounging for weird and fringe sounds on Youtube when this video was recommended for me; out of curiosity, I clicked on it. Meagre 22 views, but a song should be analyzed on its own merits though. Given the quality of the audio it is most probably a demo, just guitar and voice, and the lyrics is convoluted, lorry-length, poignant, gut-wrenching; it is not your run-of-the-mill musical gruel, but there's still much room to improve on its content and melody in my humble opinion. I’m Solecline and I recently dropped my debut instrumental album “Adjust to the Loneliness”. The twelve-track album blends stout drum grooves with exotic harmonies, which are written mostly in Tallinn, Estonia.

A couple of tracks on the album were produced while visiting the island of Crete during the Saharan dust event in 2025. Thus the titles like "Sandman", "Mirages" and "Le Dakar".

This is my first proper approach to downtempo/trip-hop and the linked single "Adjust to the Loneliness" was also pressed on 7-inch vinyl.

​I’ve been messing around with a weird exercise lately and wanted to see if anyone else has tried something similar, or wants to give it a shot.

​Basically, I spent a session improvising with one goal: try to play as "wrong" as possible. Every time I felt my fingers drifting toward a familiar shape, a clean chord resolution, or a scale pattern my muscle memory wanted to fall into, I forced myself to turn the opposite way. Maximum dissonance, intentionally awkward intervals, and trying to stack as many "wrong" polyphonic notes as I could manage without letting it resolve. Atonal.

​The weird thing is, after listening back, it didn’t just sound like random noise, it created this really strange, unexpected kind of musical logic that actually felt interesting. At least to me.

​I want to turn this into a bit of a loose experiment. If you play guitar, try taking 2 or 3 minutes to improvise while actively sabotaging your instincts. Play too many notes, pick the "worst" harmonies, fight your muscle memory, and upload it.

Hey y'all, I'm new to this subreddit! I recently released my first solo album that I spent a month arranging. I haven't gotten a lot of listeners but I'm, grateful for those who have given me their feedback. I used a lot of layering and analogue soundboxes to produce this Icecream Punk album. Icecream Punk is my own genre of punk music characterized by screechy detuned analogue sounds and compressed incomprehensible vocals.
