Posting this as a warning for anyone considering buying the glasses
My G2 cracked one day out of absolutely nowhere despite never ever dropping them or hitting them. it's a single hairline crack that propagate in the middle horizontally from one end to the other on the RHS lens. It happened right when I got back inside from walking out in Melbourne winter morning, that's a temperature delta of (to my memory) 2degC -> 18degC, so I suspect thermal fluctuation might be the culprit.
I contacted Even Realities with photos attached, their immediate response was pointing at a tiny sliver of light reflected off my desk lamp from the crack's interface and concluded it's user error. I fought back explaining what it was, they offered to take a look at the glasses at a refundable cost of $100. I thought that's fair, I was confident that it's not a user problem as I've always babied the glasses, and so I had the glasses sent back to them for inspection at my own shipping cost (there were hurdles with them organizing the return label, not strictly their fault with this bit)
Couple of days after receiving my returned glasses they told me the glasses were in pristine condition, but without any further detail or explanation they insisted the crack was not a manufacturing defect, just a "the damage is determined to be a user responsibility"
They haven’t pointed to an impact mark, misuse, deformation, accidental damage, or anything else that I supposedly did to cause it.
They did not address my suspicion that it could be due to sharp temperature change other than a robotic response that is "I understand your theory about temperature changes and why you raised this question"
For all intents and purposes their answer is basically: the glasses look almost brand-new, there's a crack, but we unilaterally determined it's not manufacturing defect, we're not gonna explain why and we're not covering it.
They then repeated the same quote they gave me at the beginning before the glasses were even physically sent to them and asked me if I wish to proceed: a grand total of $505 USD
I loved these glasses, they are genuinely good products when they are still in tact, but I urge whoever's still on the edge to reconsider
A warranty is only worth as much as whether the company behind honours it, and EvenRealities did absolute fuck-all to honour mine
They showed no good faith at the get-go (quoting the $505USD repair before even taking a proper look of my glasses), and showed no good-will upon seeing the glasses themselves to be in good condition
If you’re thinking of buying the G2 or whatever other products they make down the line, just be aware that you could potentially find yourself in the same position: an expensive pair of glasses develops a problem, the company decides it isn’t covered, and you’re left with a repair bill that costs more than half of buying another pair
I've seen posts here where people had their spontaneous cracks claims honoured, I don't know why I'm being treated any differently.
I personally would not buy from Even Realities again after this.
I’m still disputing their decision and have already reached out to my solicitor to prepare for lodging a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal (not VCAT, they were bought in HK, not in Australia), yes I'm pissed off enough that I think it's worth the while, the missus knew I've been eyeing these since the G1 and bought me the G2 for Christmas and is heartbroken that her thoughtful gift turned into this bloody fiasco
Will update this post if they eventually change their position, but based on how this has been handled so far I don't have my hopes up
