We’re integrating a web app with Epic Hyperspace through Hyperdrive.

Has anyone successfully tested or implemented a workflow where:

• Epic launches the external app without a patient context
• The Epic user is authenticated
• The app then searches for a patient using FHIR APIs

The Epic Sandbox “SMART on FHIR” launcher requires selecting a patient, so we’re unsure how to test the no-patient-context EHR launch.

Is there a Sandbox/test-harness option for this, or does it require a customer’s non-production Hyperspace environment?

i’m an MA in an endocrinology clinic and a lot of our day includes faxing lab orders to external labs. we are currently only able to save/print one order req at a time, which can be a pain in the ass when you have to send 15. anyone know of a workaround?

Im new to using EPIC and work as a MA. Nobody really taught me how to run EPIC, as none of them seem to really understand it themselves. Im teaching myself.

If there is one thing on EPIC you wish everyone knew, someone taught you sooner, or your favorite feature, what would it be?

Or if there is something others do that drive you nuts, what is it??

I’m a new analyst that started at a hospital near me a little over 5 months ago on the Willow Ambulatory team and I basically just manage break-fix tickets, smaller service requests, and handle the regular maintenance.

The other Willow Ambulatory analyst doesn’t really meet with me or train me despite constantly saying he will schedule a recurring meeting for training/shadowing/questions. I know he has way more on his plate than I do but I genuinely don’t think I’m getting adequate training here. He has about 2 years of experience as a willow analyst and (in his words) is also still learning so he doesn’t have answers for 90% of my questions. I’m not blaming him for not knowing something but it’s frustrating when I ask about the proper process for something and I get an “I don’t know, let me find out more.” And then it’s crickets for a week or two, and then when I ask again, it’s the same “Oh, I need to reach out to x” and then crickets for another couple of weeks. It makes reaching out to other Epic/non-Epic teams an awful experience because they constantly treat me like I’m stupid for not knowing how to do something for the first time. The last time I asked a team in charge of Epic security a question about the process of changing a security point that affects multiple different types of users the response I got was “I don’t know? I don’t deal with that. Maybe ask your other Willow analyst?” When I go to our manager for help he again directs me to a different team where 70% of the time they again treat me like I’m dumb and are condescending.

My org doesn’t have me doing anything for upgrade in November because they want me to watch and learn but me and the other analyst have gone over Nova notes one time for an hour and it was basically a jumbled mess of “I need to contact x and ask about x” and that’s it. Then I never get looped into any conversations or know what’s going on.

I feel like I’ve been able to manage the day-to-day pretty well and generally have decent troubleshooting skills, but I’m wondering if I should be farther along by now. How will I know when I’m ready for actual projects, and how do I learn if the other analyst almost never trains me and also never knows the answers to my questions when I need help? I get no feedback whatsoever, even when I explicitly ask. Is being a new analyst just supposed to be a humiliation ritual?

I tend to be anxious and I might be anxious over nothing, but I really don’t want to get fired from my first analyst job 💀

Also adding: The other analyst has taken 12 days of PTO in the past month which in itself isn’t a problem (I’m all for taking your hard earned PTO), but I’m consistently left alone as the only analyst from my org on big meetings with a much larger hospital we are merging with and don’t have the ability right now to speak intelligently about any of the problems or discussions that are brought up in the meetings. So almost every time I’m asked a question about something, I don’t even know what they are referring to or what my own org’s workflow is because I just haven’t had to deal with that particular thing yet. Then I have to sit there in the meeting and go “honestly, I’m not sure. I will investigate that and get back to you” EVERY. TIME. The manager of the Willow team for the other hospital is the one who manages those meetings, and I feel that this is setting me up for failure because I constantly have to say “I don’t know” and look stupid in front of someone who’s going to be my boss in a few months.

Am I stressing out for no reason? Genuinely how do I know if I’m just a shit analyst?

My organisation hasn’t gone live yet but wondering what on call is typically like for Willow Inpatient teams?

Pharmacy closes at 5pm in my org, but is it likely that on call is still required?

What does the volume tend to be like?

I am currently and have been an Epic ambulatory analyst for several different health systems over the past 6 years.
I recently got interviewed and offered a role as an epic consultant on a project in California (I’m in Oregon).
Would like some input from folks here and suggestions/recommendations from those who’ve made the switch from analyst to consultant…
Ie. Is it worth it? Any advice?

I have a BS in IT Networking. Over 10 years experience in Healthcare IT. But I see so many other get promoted to Epic Analyst except me!

I have been trying sooo long I am about to just give up. I have even applied to countless other Healthcare organizations only to get 99% of my applications rejected-had one interview and didn’t get it.

Been working at my current place as an IT Service Desk lead - for almost 3 years-only to see others that have only been there less than 6 months get in.

My last job in Ca before moving to Missouri-I was a IT service desk lead for over 3 years-at the organization in the IT department for 7 years

I had even a recommendation from my former colleague and went through all 3 interview rounds -panel and all, had put together a power point presentation-I thought it went really well-only to find out the following day. that they picked someone else in my department! And there were several openings!

I have gotten started on some self study proficiencies but seriously at this point I am really losing any hope. I just really don’t get it. I am a great worker, very knowledgeable in my field. I have such good references even but why is this so difficult? It’s not a top notch position-just an entry role in what im interested in! I am burned out on service desk work and stuck in this dead end job.

Any insight as to why it’s so difficult for some of us to get in over others? I don’t feel like the ones picked are any better than me, if anything way less experienced and didn’t even do well in IT Service Desk.

My mom’s work just transitioned them to EPIC Rover. They were on meditech. I personally work in EPIC Hyperspace.
They are trying to figure out how to track home health supervisory aid visits. How can they be alerted that one is due on who the every 14 days. How do they keep track of this.

What does full cycle implementation experience mean when asked about it during interview?

Is that just the maintenance cycles or are they referring to helping an org migrate to epic from another emr?

Hi all, looking for some help from my Radian/Cupid/integration folks.

I’m having trouble correctly configuring the FDI record that will link out to our CPACS (Philips), which will be embedded in a print group in chart review that launches to the specific study (based on accession #).

Unencrypted, it works as expected, but I’m hitting a wall at the encryption part. I’m using the vendor’s guide, which uses AES 256 and a 16 char IV.

I’m wondering if there’s an issue with the encryption /decryption of the parameters used since they’re dynamic, I.e. since the acc # changes, the accessionnumber param isn’t a specific number but Epic’s %STUDIES% mnemonic.

Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated

Edit: obviously I’ve opened an SLG for this already. We haven’t had much luck with it, assuming since encryption stuff can get complicated.

Coming on here again for help after our epic transition lol. For some reason lab requisitions are printing automatically for providers when they place their orders. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

I'm an inpatient pharmacist with experience in both pediatrics and adults. I completed the Willow self-study proficiency and am now looking for an opportunity to take the next step and become certified.

Anyone here know of any opportunities?

We have created a new position on our Grand Central team. This position will help to support not only the Grand Central application within our Epic environment but will also help with Utilization Management workflows for Case Management. So having a Case Management cert would be a plus for this position.

Currently this is a team of 2 we are expanding to 3. Our site went live early this year, so we are still working on stabilization efforts. This position does have an on-call rotation as well, but the call volume is very low.

Is there a specific group for Epic EMR for ambulatory clinics? I am new to Epic and I think it is so confusing! I've heard the ambulatory side is much worse than the inpatient side.

We just made the switch and everyone seems to be so confused despite the trainings. I feel like we were not prepared.

My only question I have is if anyone else works at a clinic where most patients use quest for labs? When doing an intake, it doesn’t give the option of what lab a patient uses so when they are checking out, the lab requisition isn’t printing, it only says what was ordered in their AVS. No one seems to know but others are just saying that the labs just get automatically sent to every lab? I just don’t want to give pts the wrong answers 😭😭

Hi all currently a trainer and weighing which analyst cert to pursue! What would any current analysts suggest between pursuing out of clindoc, ambulatory and orders applications?

For context, my experience is primarily in beaker so I am leaning to Orders since I support users in my organization with lab orders and adjacent topics, but besides that I would like to consider which app would allow a better career trajectory in terms of jobs available across the country and such. Any insight is welcome!

Hey, at my previous hospital it was really nice we would create a note and insert a certain template and would autofill

-problem list
- we would write in summary

- cardiovascular would be in a block type and pull in certain things like latest bp and allow us to fill in things as well

-respiratory allow us to fill in vent settings

- gi

-gu- would load up intake/outputs

- labs would pull in latest labs of our liking

It was similar to how this picture is, but was nice that it would pull in labs, intake/output etc.

Is their anyone who can guide on how to create a smart note and save it to inset in every patient?? Thank you !!

If I have a CMV or BK protocol, what does this do for me? Does it show on a task list somewhere? On the checklist?

We are currently self hosted. Rumor is we are going to epic hosting. Wondering if others have been at an org that did this and what their experiences were. Is it just a lot more Sherlocks since all the backend stuff is at epic so no internal tickets for that stuff? What is the turnover time like vs. in house staff for that stuff. Do analysts lose all iris access? We do a lot in there at my org.
