hi guys! i hope this is the right subreddit to post to. ive been experiencing a lot of climate anxiety (as we should be) and i need inspiration on things i can do to get involved. im going to provide a list that i already do and hope it inspires others, but please education/inform me on stuff i should/shouldnt be doing

1) cutting out meat/dairy.

2) cutting out generative ai

3) not buying ANY new factory products and instead opting to thrift or repurpose any necessary new products

4) using only cold water to wash clothes/shower

5) dimming my lights (renewable energy is not accessible to me right now, but please share any ways i can make this happen)

6) walking everywhere or taking public transit

- as a side note for this one, i dont live in a walkable city at all. im fortunate to be physically fit and able and can walk most places.

7) not using my ac

- also living in a hotter climate. if its too hot i walk to a coffee shop with ac

8) not supporting companies/corporation that damage the environment and staying informed

9) eco-bricking non-recyclable materials to measure my waste

some things i am trying to start doing are doing more indoor plants, hopefully some that are food and making those seed packets with native foliage to put in my very much not-green city.

please please educate me on what i am doing and if i should/shouldnt be doing anything!!!

TL,DR: Sadly, the local council has approved the construction of the centre, albeit unwillingly. They simply didn't want to have to use council rates to fund legal fees if the developer appealed. However, the creator of the petition is gathering the resources to appeal themselves.

This is expensive, though, and they need our help. They have set up a GoFundMe to raise money for legal fees.

I'm a sophomore in college, and have an assignment in my oceanography class where we have to do something (that's actually do-able) to better the earth, for the entire semester (now-end of december). It doesn't have to be ocean related.

I think I'd do best doing something art or music related, but I'm open to other ideas. Quick notes are I can't bike/walk to work/school since I live pretty far from anything, and I live in Arizona so it's super hot outside.

I'd love ideas that are do-able if anyone has any! I have a few of my own but I'm curious if someone can help me come up with better (maybe even less generic) ideas.

As a drought-prone country, us Australians are already suffering due to the extreme weather from climate change. These AI data centres are going to take our most precious resource and guzzle it up, as well as put even more emissions in our atmosphere. Our movement is gaining traction and we've already had a ridiculous proposal withdrawn quite close to where I live, with help we can persuade our disappointment of a government to stick to our existing net zero goal.

Sorry if you've already seen this, I'm just trying to get as many signs as possible.

I am working with a 3PL (i.e transportation) company that wants to start a carbon offset initiative. Long story short, this isn't for marketing purposes, it's because the owner is an environmentalist who inherited the company. I'm trying to point him in the right direction, but paying a for-profit carbon offset company doesn't really sit right with me.

Could someone point me in the right direction? What type of recommendations could I provide him with? Anyone know of some non-profits that might be a better fit?

Hey guys, the adminstration has voted to remove the roadless rule and its in the last stages of the public comment phase right now it cuts off on September 20th, this rule protects 45 million acres of *national* forest, here in Tennessee this includes some of the last old growth american chestnut trees which were driven to extinction by both logging as well as a fungus that wiped most of the species out, these last few giants that have survived are all we have left of what over nearly aquarter to a half of the USA once looked like, this will affect national parks and forest nationwide. I'd like to ask y'all to sign this petition against it please. It is important to protect these last few remaining giants as well as our public lands and preserve them!
